Re: Connery, I actually think it's for the best. I mean they resovled the father-son dynamic between Indy and his old man in "Last Crusade," it's time to move on and let Junior take the mantle.

I think it's better for the new movie to rely solely on Ford and the new cast. Sometimes if you try to put all the memorable old characters into a sequel, especially such a long period of time after the last, it starts to feel too much like those tired TV/movie series: '20 years later, everything the same, but now everyone is senile' etc.

If Sean was in, he'd probably do only one or two scenes anyway.

The official site states also that John Hurt has joined the cast. Could it be for the main villain role?

Very classy of Connery to make a release, especially since he didn't have to.

Goes to show the comradery between those involved in this series....

It's probably better off for the film, but I'll miss the character.

I believe he is. This deal is getting worse all the time. I don't like the problems this film has had recently, especially with some of the questionable casting.

Given it's history, I'm half-expecting the rug to be pulled out from this thing, especially with Sean not interested if he was a part of the approved script especially.

Mind you, Never say Never Again Mr Connery ;)

Yeah, definitely! Harrison still looks cool as hell in the Indy digs. Finally this project is underway, it's going to be exciting.

I don't like the new designs, there's way better fan-based models done out there and they shouldn't have put flames on his hat...

Indy!!!!

Colour me excited.

Haha...the only question is if he jumps out of a truck this time, will he break his leg? It's great to see Dr. Jones again, but he does show some signs of aging.

There's a new, but all-too-brief behind the scenes video at indianajones.com! Looks like Milner's hot rod from American Graffiti will feature in the film, but with a black paint job. Surreal.

John Hurt: Abner Ravenwood, thought to be deceased from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Shia LeBeouf: Mutt Ravenwood, Marion Ravenwood's son and Abner Ravenwood's grandson.

A new Indiana Jones Trilogy. Shia LeBeouf is signed for two more films. All this and more after the click...

http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=10883
A lot of people assumed it – hell, it’s on IMDB, although that’s no sign of truthiness – but I can tell you that it’s official: John Hurt is playing Abner Ravenwood in Indiana Jones IV. You probably remember him as the dad of Marion Ravenwood, Indy’s galpal from Raiders. Abner was Indy’s mentor, and was believed killed while searching for the lost Ark of the Covenant.

Speaking of IMDB, fire up your accounts and update Shia LaBeouf’s entry in Indy IV – his character’s name is Mutt Ravenwood. Get it? We named the ‘mutt’ Indiana. ROFL, as the kids say. There’s more to it (including his character's real name), but let’s not give the whole movie away this early. And let's not give away the next two Indy films Shia is signed to as well. Sure everybody gets signed to three picture deals these days, but the buzz is that this franchise could live on as a generational saga if audiences love Shia as much as director Steven Spielberg does...

There’s more coming to CHUD from the set of this film, stuff that I’m sitting on right now to protect my sources but also to keep the movie from getting ruined. I do hope that as other sites gets information about the film they’ll do the same; Spielberg really wants to keep this movie’s secrets close to the vest, and that just won’t be happening in the modern age, but there’s no reason to blow every aspect of the film before it’s even finished shooting.

By the way, Steve, be careful of modern gadgets – everything has a camera in it now. You certainly wouldn’t want pictures of Cate Blanchett in her Soviet outfit with a tight black bob, tall boots and a sword in her belt getting out on the web, would you?

I get the impression that Harrison may be getting knocked from the spotlight in order to make room for the son. Which may or may not be a bad thing... if handled well.

Interesting about John Hurt playing Abner Ravenwood...Abner being Marions father and I would assume some years older than Indy. He had dedicated himself to the Ark of the Covenant, so I wonder if it may play some small part in the movie..??

I always hate bringing a child into an already made franchise (especially an adventure franchise, hell I didn't even like short round in Doom), but I'm willing to give them a chance to make it work. I am NOT willing to make Shia LeBeouf the next Indiana Jones. There should be no "next" Indiana Jones. George tried to make it work for a TV series and it didn't work. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones. Except when River Phoenix is playing Young Indiana. Give it up. You wouldn't have someone else playing Han Solo would you?

Spielberg and Lucas have this really annoying thing for kids. Audiences collectively cringed when the little girl defeated the raptors with gymnastics in The Lost World and when Anakin said "Yippee!" in Episode I. I'm not saying they're going down a similar path with Indy, because Shia's certainly older and he's clearly coming across as a edgier character with his pompadour, leather jacket and motorcycle. However, things are already looking a little ridiculous. Ford jumping onto the back of the bike? Jeesh. I'll withhold judgment however. It's going to rock.

From watching DisneyChannel's Even Stevens, Shia LeBeouf is more like young Jim Carrey than a young Harrison Ford.

For me the recent motorcycle images of Ford behind LeBeouf negated some positive vibes gotten from the first Spielberg Indiana Jones photo. Although the Harrison Ford front seat motorbike shots look much better, along with the standing professor shots.

Still, Harrison's hair could have been dyed darker.

Oh internet nerd-dom.....

A few shots from the set aren't going to do anything but get me excited for more Indiana Jones.

As long as I see a happy Steven Spielberg behind the camera then I'm confident the movie will be awesome.

Lost World was an abberation....and he even called it one of the worst movies he's ever made.

Hrm, could speculate that Abner has gone missing. So Marion sends her son to get the only person she knows that can find him. Cue plenty of rebellious youth, "I'm too old for this" jokes, and Indy slowly passing the torch over to his son (revelation made during the movie, I'm sure) during the course of the movie.

Dumb speculation though. One would hope they'd be less formulaic than I am. Although this is Spielberg and Lucas we're talking about.

There are strong rumors that Marion Ravenwood will appear. Speaking of rumors, AICN has some regarding a potential Ark role:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/33254

[spoil]
[align=left]The INDIANA JONES 4 rumor mill takes another turn...
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've had this rumor in the inbox for a little while (thanks to "Judas' Noose") and it’s starting to gain some momentum.

I've gotten a second source come to me with the same rumor. So, I thought I'd run something on it. It's a big, giant honking rumor, but a fascinating one.

I've been on the record supporting the idea of an INDIANA JONES 4 if it brings the films full circle. You have a great trilogy cap with that riding off into the sunset shot from LAST CRUSADE, so the only place to go in my mind is to make a movie that goes full circle back to RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. We know Marion Ravenwood is in it. We know she had a kid with Indy. We hear that John Hurt could be playing Abner Ravenwood, long lost father of Marion and mentor to Indy, thought dead in his pursuit of the Ark.

Seems like that's the direction they're going.

The rumors I have been getting say that the big object being searched for is not Atlantis. It is not the Spear of Destiny. It is not a shard of Noah's Ark. This time Indiana has to go back to square one. There is nothing he can possess that can not be taken away.

What I hear is that he is searching, once more, for the Ark of the Covenant.

The rumor is that the warehouse we see at the end of Raiders is in Groom Lake (aka Area 51) and the Russians are trying to find it in order to one-up the American military might.

That would explain Abner being involved in the story. That would further my theory that INDY 4 will act as a bookend to the series, RAIDERS on one side and INDY 4 on the other. If Shia LaBeouf ends up continuing it down the line as rumored, then so be it, but I think we're pretty much guaranteed this will be the last one with Lucas, Spielberg and Ford.

I love the idea, but from what I know of the film, from trusted sources within the company, there’s just not really any room for the Ark of the Covenant in the story they're telling. It’s not the main thrust of the movie if it is in the flick and I just can’t see it as being something they’d sideline.

So, I know this really doesn’t give you guys a definitive answer and probably just raises more questions, but this is what I know of the rumor right now and I’m sure it’ll be spreading, so I wanted to address it.

Hell, it could be that Lucas and Spielberg have us so turned around we don’t know which end is up and they’re off making a completely different movie than everybody’s expecting, feeding us a bunch of bogus rumors and all the set pics and stories have been fabricated. I wouldn’t put it past them.

If the Ark does play a part, I think it’s a fascinating choice. If it doesn’t, I’m happy seeing a new adventure, too. What are your thoughts?

INDY HAS ARRIVED. New video on location.

My favourite part: Check out George's shirt - 'Han Shot First'!!!

That's fucking classic. I don't care what anyone thinks, George is the man.

GREAT to see Indy in any sort of action....this movie will be awesome, rest assured.

There is something great about the first pic of Harrison Ford and the new video. It just takes me back to my childhood. Waiting for the next Indiana Jones.

The stuff reminds me of the first trailer I saw for 'Crusade'. I can't remember what movie we were seeing but it must have been in late '88 or early '89 and the trailer seemed to mostly be behind the scenes stuff. The one thing I vividly remember is at one point Harrison's hat kept flying off in the wind and finally they were jokingly stapling it to his head. I get the same kinds of feelings with this, like they love doing this movie and there is a whole lot of love going into the making from Ford, Lucas and Speilberg.

I can't wait.

Well you could look at it two ways. One, he's actually recognizing the OOT again. Or two, he's being hypocritical on purpose.

Or four. It doesn't matter because LFL is going to cash in anyway.

But back to Indy, Ford's looking slightly less ancient in the adventure attire.

While 65 maybe considered the retirement age, the thing to keep in mind is that Ford always been old for his parts. When cast in the original Star Wars, Ford acted alongside twenty-somethings Hamill and Fisher. When Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade came out, Harrison Ford was already 49.

Harrison Ford b. July 13 1942

Age 35: Star Wars
Age 38: The Empire Strikes Back
Age 39: Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Age 41: Return Of The Jedi
Age 43: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Age 47: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Ford, who is two years older than Lucas (b. May 14, 1944) appears to be in better condition. Still, seeing them both age makes me :(

But he always looked fine for his age. Even in Last Crusade he pulled off a guy in his late 30s/early 40s. Looking at his pics now, he really does look in his 60s.

Kinda sad though, you grow up watching some actors in their prime. You age but in their movies they never do, but then all of a sudden these guys start looking really old.
