I'm definitely buying the 30th Anniversary box set for sure. I'm also going to buy my brother Mike a copy too. I hope that there's a complete score 12-CD box set to help promote the Anniversary DVD set too...

Would it be out of line to hope for isolated scores all around? Whatever, I'll buy it either way.

Hmm, I doubt there will be isolated scores for all 6 films. Would be nice but I doubt it...

I will most likley be buying this set aswell; however, it will be a real let down if it's just the existing dvd's dressed up in new packaging.

I don't think it will be just the existing DVD's. It's been reported that more changes to the OT have been or are being made for the Anniversary DVD not sure how many more changes though. Also as we know that Yoda for TPM has been updated with a CG version instead of that stoned looking puppet and most likely TPM will be given a new digital transfer for the Anniversary DVD set. I'm not sure either if there will be changes to AOTC and ROTS.

Can there be any doubt? I wonder if JW will be doing any new score work on these as well?

Don't count on any rescoring of the films. If there's one thing that's proven that Lucas aint Peter Jackson... Lucas won't have Williams come back and rescore the tracked scenes.

Thats good to hear. The current transfer does look a little soft in my opinion.

I could definitely see them pulling some kind of repack, considering the '04 DVDs have been released at least 3 times in the last two years.

"Now, get all six films together."

Actually I should have put the TPM will PROBABLY be given a new digital transfer. I'm sure that they will give the film a new transfer to keep in line with the rest of the movies. I agree though the current transfer looks soft...out-dated almost.

"If there's one thing that's proven that Lucas aint Peter Jackson... Lucas won't have Williams come back and rescore the tracked scenes."

Except he's done it before, so there's no way I would discount the possibility entirely. And no Peter Jackson? Well thank god for that; can anyone imagine a 4 hour version of TPM? Brevity and to the point storytelling is a virtue he seems to have misplaced along the way since Heavenly Creatures.

Anyways, I'll buy it only if the war between HD formats is over by then.

Ya he had him come back to only rescore the ending for ROTJ, that's it. Don't count on it happening for anything else. I'm being realistic here.

I’ve read (a year or two ago) JW had talked about re-scoring A New Hope, since the Imperial March is conspicuously missing from that chapter. Something about having an opportunity to blend it in with the rest of the films, once the rest of the changes were done. I don’t know what’s up with that nowadays, though…

This was said around the time of AOTC on an Entertainment Tonight special.

I really, really hope the scores for all the films are smoothed out so we get a definitive edition. I just don't want the films to sound and look sloppy.

Guess I'll be trading in all my DVD copies again then...

Talk about cash cow....

I sometimes wish Lucas had never changed the bloody films, it's a giant pandora's box, we'll be living with his tinkering from now until the end of time.

Hopefully this time the changes will be for the better.

I wonder if he's going to do another cinema release again? My bet says yes.

That is an awesome anniversary logo. I saw a goldish one in the latest SW insider Magazine as well. I thought it may have had additional text though - maybe an "anniversary' across the bottom.

Can't wait for more news on the bigass dvd boxset

No shit. There's always got to be somebody that tries to fuck up everything for everyone else.

Biggs if you don't like it then don't fucking buy it.

I don't think Biggs meant any harm. There's been a whole lot of releases, and as much as I hesitate I still continue to buy them. So you won't hear me complain much. It's my money, and apparently a lot of it goes to Lucas.

That would be something I'd really look forward to. I don't care how many DVD, HD or BD sets are produced, I'm a firm believer that films are meant to be experienced on the big screen. I wasn't around for the original realeases of the films, but I saw the Special Editions countless times in 97. I know we've got 3D coming in a few years, but that still isn't the same as kicking it in the local movieplex on a Friday night.

There've been three DVD releases (the fourth hasn't been announced yet), one of which was a plain ol' rerelease that only the morons re-bought. If you ignore the numerous different audio tracks over the years, there've been only two major changes to the trilogy- '97 and '04.

I don't see where the scandal is.

I distinctly remember people bitching and moaning about how Lucas apparently "hated" the DVD format because he waited sooo long to start putting Star Wars movies on DVD.

Twasn't that long ago, in fact. Unless you have A.D.D.

To do this right, well, tubby has to do the following:

Fix the serious audio fuckups throughout the SE, especially ANH.
Fix the serious color-timed fuckups throughout the SE.
Give us the deleted scenes from the OT.
Throw in the Original Editions of the OT and make sure they're anamorphic this time. (P.S. We'll pretty much accept the nostalgia angle so you don't have to clean them up like the SE)
Get Williams to re-score.

Spring for a new transfer for TPM.
Put a digital Yoda in there because that new puppet was crap.
Give us the few TPM and AOTC commercials you left off those DVDs.
Put back the full Dooku/Anakin/Obi-Wan duel in AOTC.
Put back the full Dooku/Anakin/Obi-Wan duel in ROTS.
Give us the three making of docs you left off ROTS.
Put Mon Mothma back in the fucking movie, dumbass.

And step up with some kind of cool collector case made of metal or hard plastic. Go with Vader's helmet, Yoda's head...or something similar. :weed:

There may be more that could come to me. :what:

George Lucas doesn't have to do anything at all, keep that in mind.

However for your points I can see the following happening for the Saga DVD set:

1: Fixing audio screw ups on ANH
2: Fixing color timing through out all 3 movies
3: Deleted scenes for all 3 movies (there's rumor of this going on)
4: New digital transfer for TPM
5: CGI Yoda for TPM (all ready confirmed anyways)
6: Full Dooku/Obi-Wan/Anakin duel in AOTC (probably could happen but don't hold your breath)
7: Full Dooku/Obi-Wan/Anakin duel in ROTS (again probably could happen but wouldn't hold your breath)
8: Three making of Docs for ROTS is probably a likely

What I don't see happening

1: Restored versions of the theatrical versions of the OT. However IF and I do mean IF it happens I'll eat my own words but I seriously doubt it will.
2: Mon Mothma in ROTS, they cut it out because it would have screwed up the pacing in the film. I'm not crying it was cut out and neither are a lot of other people.
3: Williams re-scoring stuff --- This I seriously doubt will happen again don't hold your breath.

Make the OT brighter so we don't have to boost the brightness/contrast for scenes like the Cantina.

And put all the discs in a nice Darth Vader bust ala the Planet of the Apes Legacy set. :)

By the way before anyone says, "Well Williams rescored the ending of ROTJ". Ya that's because Lucas wanted a different musical ending for the Special Editions (personally I hate the original musical ending). However don't expect Lucas to ask Williams to come back and rescore anything else.

Then it will be yet another classic example of Lucas fucktardary. :meatwad:

But then again, he's probably used to it by now.

...because Raveers is not optimistic about such things, for whatever reason. Maybe because Lucas and co. lazily re-used and shittily edited together pre-existing music for a good chunk of the PT and the SE's (impying he doesn't give enough of a shit about making sure everything is 100% original music scored for the films or sounds at all professional)? Though some could say that Williams didn't have enough time to score those particular sequences in time for the theatrical release and that he's worked on or is working on completing the scores for whatever lies ahead in the future. What do I think? Eh, I side with Raveers. I don't think it's happening.

While it seems true that Lucas hasn't got sensitive enough ears to be bothered by most of the edits, I think he should at least remember, that they had to throw away some of the original music for AOTC because of the last moment changes. Also, wasn't some of the music editing for the changed scenes in the SE ESB further tinkered with for the 2004 DVD? So maybe Lucas isn't completely ignorant after all.

In addition Lucas stated not so long ago, that working with Williams on the scores (well, maybe Luca's involvement shouldn't be called "working") was one of his favorite parts of making those movies. That seems like a good enough reason to do some "re-working".

You could be right, but the only change I could realistically see happening is putting Vader's theme into ANH. I'd liked to be proven wrong though.
