Re-scoring AOTC arene battle with existing music.
As someone who thinks the Phantom Edit and Attack of the Edit are stupid, I'm going to be openly hypocritical here and suggest a rescoring of the end battles in AOTC.
I don't know if Ben Burtt is responsible for the music editing in AOTC, but if he is, he should be shot. It sucks. We've established that many times so I won't elaborate. I was messing around with a couple CDs and the AOTC dvd and here is my suggested re-mix.
Anakin, Obi, Padme section:
- The existing track 11 on the AOTC soundtrack.
The music as JW scored it kicks ass. Just play the DVD while listening to the music as the man intended it to be, and the scene immediately is infinitely more exciting.
Starting with Mace's Leap:
- The Force theme section of Track 1 of the ROTS soundtrack.
We're watching 200 Jedi fight at once, when we've never seen more than two or three go at it before. Why the fuck wouldn't the Jedi/Force theme just make sense here?
After 3PO delivers some dumb lines and Mace starts fighting a battle droid:
- Duel of the Fates (Starting from after the loud choral intro)
If you start here and play DOTF, it's almost as if they edited the scene to this music. But instead, they decided to chop up the somewhat goofy TPM droid battle music and slip it in here.
I might actually mix together a track, but I am kind of lazy. But try watching this scene with those cues. I guarantee you'll find the scene becomes as nasty as it should've been to begin with.
