I wrote this in response to someone dissing the Matrix a few days ago; thought it merited its own thread.

I watched Revolutions again last week for the first time since it came out , and I like the ending a whole hell of a lot more than when it came out.

Its all about balance. True balance. The Matrix acheives true balance. The supervillain and the superhero are destroyed. The good side and the bad side are forced to coexist in peace. Everything is equal. It wasn't the ending people were looking for, but it really did what it set out to do.

I think the Star Wars prophecy should've played out like the Matrix prophecy. For the Force truly to be balanced, the Sith and Jedi would have to have equal numbers/power, even if it meant both were destroyed. Anakin brings balance to the Force in ROTS, not ROTJ. The ROTJ "balance" isn't balance at all because the Jedi are in complete control. The Matrix achieves true balance when it says it does, Star Wars doesn't.

All I'm saying is that while the Matrices aren't what people wanted (I was shouting with the haters), it really doesn't get credit because it took the route of an ending that really makes sense, not the Hollywood sellout. The Force prophecy really doesn't achieve balance. If you want an epic story about balance, just look at the Matrix.

The force is balanced after RoTJ. It's from the destruction of both the jedi and the sith. The system starts again, but this time the jedi follow the will of the (living) force instead of some dogmatic structure based upon "rational thought". In short, they live like Qui-Gon did.

Atleast that's my take on it.

But the Jedi were never destroyed. From ROTS to ROTJ, things are balanced. There are 2 Jedi, 2 Sith (and Luke... psh). Never mind that the Sith have dominace of the galaxy, but looking only at the Force, everything is in balance.

Things become unbalanced when Sidious and Vader die. The Jedi completely control the Force, and we are to assume that since the Sith are dead, the Jedi will have control forever. This really isn't balance. If Luke were to be killed by Sidious, and Vader tried to save Luke and died in the process, that would be more balanced than what really happened in ROTJ.

The system never started again. The Jedi were in control for 1000 years, the Force is then balanced by the Sith for 20 or so years, and then the Jedi regain complete control.

Hell, I think the first one sucked, too:

"It's a killing machine with one purpose: Search and destroy!"

But the Jedi were never destroyed.

Yoda and Obi-Wan cease to exist in the physical plane. The jedi order is restarted with Luke.

I don't think it means actual numerical balance. I think means that there is no chaos within the system.

I'll sound all gushy here...Luck helped make "love" be accepted once again in the force..........balancing it all out.

I read that somewhere, no, really, I did!

Look, the payoff of the whole series is that Vader balances the Force by wiping out the Sith at the end of ROTJ. Accept it and move on. This thread can only become more retarded as it grows.

Eh... I didn't want it to be that. I was just wondering what true balance is. Is it the Matrix's definition: good and evil are equal? Or is it the Star Wars definition: good triumphs over evil?

I see what you're saying, but good is still in control here. In the Matrix, the actual Matrix restarts, but without the main protaginist and antaganist, the main good and evil. Both cease to exist when order restarts, and I'm wondering if Star Wars should've been the same way.

It wouldn't be a popuar or fun ending, but the Force is supposed to achieve balance through Anakin, and I don't think it actually does.

Maybe they should have ended it with Luke embracing both the Dark side and the Light side of the Force and untiting them to make the force X-Treme :heavymetal: ! He can then become the first Sidi (or Jeth, which ever one you like).
