Wasn't sure where to post this, but seeing as how it pertains to the forums I thought this was the most logical place. Occasionally, I'll view the forums and see this. Is this some sort of bug or is there an actual reason why a shitload of guests are listed as posting messages? I just don't get it.

It's just a guess, but maybe those are folks that are "hidden" showing up as "guest". I don't know for sure, but I'd bet someone else's money on it.

I haven't seen that before, but on a board-problem-related note, the board time is innacurate. I'm on eastern time, but the board shows as 43 minutes behind. Not a real biggy, but sometimes the correct time would be helpful when I clear the 'new post search' cookie and go back to look for new posts. :)

This DDOS attack... if it even is an attack, has been happening to this site and other messageboards for almost two years. This week however was particularly busy with DOSing happening every few hours. The DOS'ers open up a bunch of connections at the sametime in an attempt to shut down the database. (Alexa-Archive.org and Inkotomi-Yahoo have been been prevented by crawling MF via robots.txt to prevent too many open connections.)

I use the term "if it even is an attack" because it maybe tied to another problem this and every other board has been dealing with: spambots. Spammers using autoregistration scripts can register to a board with their website in the sig and post a new topic spamming said website seconds later seemingly defeating the various visual confirmation implementations out there at the moment.

There have been anti-autoregistrant steps implemented here but they won't be posted because the derivative bizarro-MF sites out there are still plaguerizing MF style.
