Anyone watch "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed" on the History Channel yesterday on May 28th?

It was entertaining to say the least. They mentioned the archetypes that we have probably all heard before at one time or another. And people shared, including Kevin Smith, their perceptive on it based on what they thought that Lucas was trying to say or show. Even the one female commentator at the end said that someone could do a show like this in the future and they could be talking about totally different influences and situations. Star Wars is truly timeless.

They went into the depth with the mentor angle, the hero's journey, and women's role in the films. They talked about all the major characters and their influence, even what Jar Jar represents. I would have liked if they did an even longer show and went into detail about the other minor characters and what it is that they believed that they represent. They even touched on how the Empire could represent Nazis and the colors of the Nazi flag are red, white and black, and the Empire uses those three colors.

The most interesting thing about the show for me, was now that both trilogies are complete, they can make shows like this and talk about the entire series as a whole and not separate individual movies. That I really enjoyed because it should be viewed as one really, really long movie and that's how Lucas intended it. I hope they do more shows like this in the future.

This is sitting on my DVR. I'll catch it later in the week. Did look quite interesting.

I'm downloading it now to watch it again. Unfortunately it's going really slow. I missed some stuff because of people talking in the background and I was playing around on ancestry.com which by the way, is pretty cool. I found my grandfather's father WWI draft paper where he signed up for the draft when living here in Pennsylvania. And I found his wife's name on the list of names of people who came over on the boat that came to Ellis Island. Neat stuff.

Here's the link to download if you use torrents:

I'm letting it download as I sleep. G'night all.

What's supposed to mean, that it should be viewed as one really, really long movie? That it should be only watched 13 hours straight? It certainly is one story in the form of six episodes and two trilogies, individualy different in many ways, but I don't think anyone ever doubted that.

And thanks for the link.

I saw bits and pieces, and to be honest, whoop-dee-do. It was fun and all - it usually is, to watch documentaries about something personally interesting - but either we'd heard it before or it was pure drivel concocted by someone who wants to see more in a movie than there is. Yes, there are certainly mythological aspects to SW; the Hero's Journey, the Mentor's Sacrifice, et al. But a lot of the supposed allusions were absurd.

No, of course not. I haven't done that yet. I've done Ep II, III, and IV straight in one day, but that's about it. When talking about Star Wars, I enjoy it beginning discussed as a whole, not separately. And I don't think others have doubted it, but some still argue about one episode verses another.
