Growing up in the Star Wars generation (I was 11 when ROTJ came out), I never understood completely the title of this movie. I had always thought it refered to Luke "coming back" to get Vader and defeat the Empire. Now, as I'm older and a little wiser, I realize that the title was referring to the Jedi as a whole. Obviously, as we learn in depth in the PT how the Jedi are all but extinct, and realistically had no presence in te galaxy. With Luke's successes, the Jedi do indeed return as the Empire and Sith are destroyed forever. I have no idea if Lucas designed it this way all along, but it does seem logical to me.

I think it means a little of all of the above.

In the same way, The Phantom Menace refers to Sidious, but could also apply to Maul, a mysterious "dark warrior," or the Sith as a whole, for that matter.

The "Phantom Menace" is Anakin....

to a person who was a non fan liek us.. (say.. my three month old son) when they see the Star Wars movies from Episode I to 6 with no other knowledge of them and teh story... All of these ideas and names witlkl make soooOOOOO much more sense than they do to us who "know what they all mean"

The Phantom Menace will be so suspensesully so for them. The Attack of The Clones will be like the cavalry showing up to save the Republic from those wierd droids and that Phantom Menace. They will be the ones who save the Jedi and the Day..

The Revenge of The Sith will be just that.. Showing those Sith, who got briefly explained in the previous movies, finally get their revenge and wipe out their hated Jedi enemies.. almost taking over the Republic.

"A New Hope" will show that there IS a chance. Obi Wan is still alive.. He has found another Skywalker.. maybe he and the young skywalker can stand against the emperor and HIS skywalker. A new chance for order to prevail.

The Empire Strikes Back. Yeahhhhh I can't wait to watch my son see the Empire totaly bitch slap the rebellion after losing the death star in part I. They freeze Han.. the chop off Luke's hand, they even destroy the entire Rebel base that they couldn't find in part I.

Finally. In part 6 the Jedi get their revenge.. They steal back Anakin and de STROY the Phantom Menace (Darth Sidious). They get their revenge sure enough. He plummets down a shaft and Darth Vader is destroyed. The new death star is destroyed. Yeah. And tehy do it in the REAL jedi way. nto with better lightsaber technique.. but with better heart.

Lookign at it thorugh my new son's eyes will truly show me the movies they way Lucas must have seen them. I think I will have to live on an island somewhere so I can show the kid teh movies every six months or
so. That way I can have him study the escalating seriopusness and concepts of them.

i guess thats my point.. we have all seen it been there done that.. Lucas doesnt really make teh movies for people like us to be honest..

even talkign about it has the response from you guys of "oh yeah been there discussed that.. yadda yadda" movie titles,, by definition are for peopel who DONT KNOW the movies or havent seen them.

Batman Returns.. yeahhhhh it describes it. Batman Returns!!!! but actually..that was a silly title.. he didnt go anywwhere in the story did he? oh well.. amrketing drivel. ( even here away from the offices we have t follow da rulez)
