Vader wants Palpatine dead. He wants luke to be his apprentice. Vader wants to be the master. I do find it strange that after asking Luke to join him on Bespin he stops luke from killing Palpatine. when luke looks out the window at the battle, turns around grabs his lightsaber and swings at paplatine, vader blocks it. if he wanted luke to kill him THAT was the best chance. |

cause vadar needed palps to fully turn luke to the dark side before they teamed up and killed him... well that could be the reason ![]() |

Ditto. |

palps wasn't going to die at that moment, for all we know vader actually saved luke from a dumb attempt at killing one powerful dude. |

I thought my reply of "Because it's not the end of the movie yet" would have been enough. Apparently not! ![]() |

I think Vader has given up on trying to kill the Emperor at this point. In ESB, it was easy because the Emperor was nowhere near Luke and Vader on Bespin, but when he's around, Vader quickly becomes submissive. Vader doesn't mention killing the Emperor once during ROTJ. I think that Luke's refusal was his only opportunity to do so. |

Vader knows luke isnt fully trained yet and he also knows that it will take him and the emperor both to turn him, he thinks about all this and a little more in the novelization of the movie, he needs the emperor for a bit longer. He has to bury his feelings deep to hide them from palpatine, but they are there and I dont remember the exact sequence of his thinking with out the book in front of me butthat is his reasoning for stopping luke from killing palps |

But the lightsabers release light and from this point of view it seems that they stuck in each other, but I think the the colors of the light just blend. And if you see the movie you will notice that Luke swings the lightsaber in that way I've explained... :/ |
