Awesome! What am I looking at?

As of now TalesOfTheNewRepublic.com is fan animated series based using Gentle Giant's animated statues as a template. The Tales Of The New Republic series is being promoted by a well known 3D tools company called LightWave 3D.

Although it could be part of some Viral Marketing campaign used by Gentle Giant and/or Lucasfilm themselves to sell the statues. The site is even using GentleGiant's Animated Logo.

Well, I'm not surprised since Lucasfilm didn't renew their license with Master Replicas. It looks pretty good. I look forward to seeing it in action.

The site has the trailer up although it's slow because @ 70mb it's getting hammered. The trailer features the standard Empire Strikes Back finale score with a "COMING SOON?" at the end.

I thought the trailer was pretty good. Up until it had Mace fucking Windu making a cameo. Fuck that shit. Fuck that shit right up the arse. The EU shit of no-one from the movies dying, always managing to stay alive annoys the shit out of me. Yet the presence of Mace does this shit all over again. Fuck off.

It's a fan-animated series. I don't know if it's 'official' or not. But it reeks of "I LOVE MAECE. HE CARNT BE DED!@!" retardedness.

Well, that's why I asked, since it wasn't 100% clear. The Mace-inclusion is precisely why I think it might be LFL-approved. They're capable of this kind of retarded shit.

Where are you all getting the idea this is going to be a series? It's just a fanfilm in the form of a trailer. Hence the "?" at the end. The animator just rendered a few scenes and threw them together; there's no indication of any semblance of a narrative present in those disparate scenes.

AICN is now saying it's the trailer for the official cartoon....not sure how they can be so wrong on this type of information (given that Thrawn wasn't in the clone wars)...but hey, guess everybody gets to mess up a bit.

Well... AICN has revised that and updated:

"Harry here - I'm about 99.999999% sure that this isn't official. If it is official - wow they need to work on it. If it is fan made - nice work, but you're still not all the way there... though I love the Thrawn - a lot."

I saw that kinda funny. At least they're getting quicker about it. It used to take days and weeks for them to say they were wrong in calling something official.

Harry's keen on it, though. He's right too, that shot of Thrawn is nice, don't know if it'd give me the same reaction it gave him, but it's a nice touch.

No this is not proffesional work. I am a computer graphic artist and have used Lightwave, among other programs for years. The modeling and animation are not prefessional quality, but they do look quite nice for someone's personal project. A decent amount of time and effort went into it.

And on a coincidental, completely-unrelated-to-this-project note, I started to model Gentle Giant's Toon Stormtrooper maquette a few weeks ago, for fun:

Kinda fun, but the Mara Jade and Thrawn crap is stuff I could live without. Not because they're no good (although they do kinda suck) but because I think it'd rock if the EU as we've known it up to now was completely written off and rebuilt from the ground up now that we have the prequels behind us. And that wanky Thrawn trilogy would be the first thing I'd like to see get nixed.

If ya look closely, Mace has a goatee. Which leads me to believe ...'Taint no Flashback.
