Hmmm... well that's disappointing news but I figured that as soon as Force Unleashed got pushed to 2008 that there wasn't really anything else to link a new DVD release to.

It still doesn't really make sense that they arent doing anything for the 30th Anniversary on DVD from a licensing standpoint, I mean geez.. it would be super cheesy but even a repackaging of the existing DVDs in a 30th Anniversary package would make sense from a marketing standpoint because other than the toys and some books, there really isn't going to be much out there as far as I know for general consumer (I don't count statues and stuff as regular consumer stuff)... Rereleasing existing DVDs would be a double dip (actually a triple dip at this point) but studios do it all the time. Jaws I think has been released 3 times on DVD so far along with the Lord of the Rings movies.

I'd take anything with a grain of salt at this point though, even if Sansweet was being honest if he said "there are no plans to release new DVDs at this time" during the interview that can mean anything or that could mean "as of this interview there are no plans to release new DVDs" and if they are going to make an announcment they'd probably want to do it at C4 where alot of their buying demographic is going to be.

Indy IV is in preproduction so that wouldn't take up all of the resources of ILM at this point and there would be no reason for them to clear the deck and completely focus on just Indy IV as far as I can tell.

I guess the only time we'd really find out is at around the time of C4, so my guess would be that if we don't hear about it at C4 then it ain't happening this year.

Speaking of C4, is it just me or does it seem like there is really nothing happening??? Other than celebrity appearances and stuff?? The most exciting thing I'd be interested in going for would be to meet Ralph McQuarrie. Is anyone planning on going?? I'm in NYC but thinking about making the trip, since I am probably moving to LA in July anway, it would be an excuse to go apartment hunting.

Indeed I think they are probably just saying that there's no plans at this time because they're saving the announcement for C4, even though pratically everyone knows by now that there will be some sort of Saga box set... at least internet people. Those who probably still are in the dark ages and don't use internet won't know.

I'm not sure how everyone else feels, but even though an anniversary set is expected, is it really wanted?

Weren't we just complaining we had to buy the 2004 trilogy again, just to get the original films? Although I'm interested to see what George will continue to change, especially in the prequels, I think I can wait a few more years before that happens.

I kind of want Lucas to release whatever he has been twiddling with and be done with it. If they say that they want to release it at a later date on HD or Bluray then thats cool too, I dont think HD or Bluray has reached a price point that is attainable for mass-market.

I'm expecting more, like I said, if Lucas has been tinkering with the movies since AOTC or ROTS, then I'd like to see one last pass.. call it the Trilogy Archive Editition or whatever it was originally called, release it on DVD and move on to other stuff like Indy Jones and the TV shows or whatever. It's not like they can't keep them on the shelves for years and years.

I don't think there will be another release until the format war is settled.

If we were to get a 30 year Anniversary DVD set by the date of the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, wouldn't we have had information leaked by now? It almost feels way too late for anything to possibly come out for May 25th. (Yes, I know the 25th is a Friday, and DVDs are normally released Tuesdays, but I'm sure if they wanted to, Lucasfilm could release a DVD set any day of the week.)

IF we do get a Saga DVD set this year chances are it probably won't come out until this fall. Again that's if.

Agreed. Releases in May have never been part of their marketing plan.
