hey guys

I've been busy working out the technical and logistics bugs on a live webcam event broadcast over the internet from the Episode III line outside the Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

We're gonna have a lot of line cam stuff, interviews with hot girls from Hollywood, pre-corded interviews with some industry professionals, fan films, exclusives, and much more!

If anyone is interested, go to http://www.firstcutlive.tv and select the LiningUp TV link.

This first week is gonna be pretty much set up, but in the coming weeks, we're gonna have some kick ass shows featuring popular Star Wars fans such as Obi-Shawn, the guy who made and X-Wing out of his car, and dozens more. If you really want to get to see alot of cool shit, then you need to tune in.

P.S. -- Don't turn this into a flame fest about the politics of people waiting in line at the wrong theatre. I am producing and directing content, and I really don't care to hear any more about the bullshit.

I considered lining up for TPM years ago. But then I saw footage on the news of guys in line who kept referring to the Rebel Alliance as "we," and were dead serious. They don't sell enough Jack Daniel's in a year to get me through hanging with people like that.

Of course, when I saw the parade of adult men dressed like Darth Maul coming out of the first screening with their flashlight sabers hanging down dejectedly, the "hilarious" antics of Jar Jar Binks still fresh in their minds, I was freed from any lingering doubt that I'd missed out on anything.

I can't imagine watching a live feed of the RotS line. Unless it's Triumph...

I'll just write a check to the charity.

Thanks Fatboy. The bulk of content will be up in 2 weeks, with some "filler" line cam stuff from now until then. We only closed the deal with Continental Vista 3 1/2 weeks ago, so we're kinda under major pressure.

If you want to meet me in Frisco after Celebration, I can shoot you then.

Sounds cool. It will help pass the time.

"when I saw the parade of adult men...coming out of the first screening with their flashlight sabers hanging down dejectedly"

Yes, your opinion is objectively true and everyone on the planet agrees with it.

they were probably talking about the rebel legion, the costuming group they were members of. theres nothing wrong with calling it "we" because they are in fact members of it. Otherwise, if they were actually speaking as if they were members of a real rebel alliance, yah you're right, weird

All of the above. You will see in the coming weeks "documentary" type segments and other specials and comedy spoofs, which are being edited now. There will be a broadcast schedule available for view in the morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. entailing all the shows.

I don't understand the people who bash those that dress up and wait in line. When there is so much evil and hatred going on in the world at this time, I think it's good to see people following their hearts and not bowing to society's norms. I could think of a million worse things people could and are doing at this exact time! Kudos to all of you. I'm with you in spirit.

I'm as huge a Star Wars fan as any, but the whole wait in line ahead of time always seemed terribly asinine to me. I mean, where's the fire? The movie's coming out May 19th no matter where you are on April 20th. And how exactly do you "wait in line" for a month. Don't these people have jobs, lives, any kind of obligation to society besides sitting in front of a theatre like a jackass for 30 days??

EDIT:
Got rid of the flame out of respect to this artmaul dude

EDIT 2:
Put back in the flame after I saw I'd already been quoted.... ;)

 Yeah, I totally agree with you. I mean, I don't understand why not just go to a small little local theater where you can easily get tickets a month in advanced without waiting in line at all. And when I went to see Clones, a lot of the people got their tickets the night of with no problem.

 Fair enough....The actual logistics of it still scare me. Are people literally camping out there, taking turns, or what? And seriously, don't they have jobs or school or something. The logistics of it are just boggling my mind....

Sounds cool. I'll be sure to check it out. I need to go ahead and get my tickets early, becuase my son is due in a few weeks and I'm not gonna have much free time. I'll be lucky to see the movie more than twice.

I don't know personally, but I've heard that the NY (and LA line) is working on a schedule. Basically people have to come sign in while they are waiting, and they are free to come and go as they please, but the catch is, those who accumulate the most "time" in line will get to be at the front of the line on the day of the release.

So the way that I understand is that it's not really a line-up at all (well, sort of). Since people don't have to stay and save their place in line, it comes off to me as more of a friendly gathering of people with similar interests. I put "time" in quotes cause I know in NY that people who come during the peak hours are given extra time. I think they started that so that those who have little time can still get a good spot in line without having to sit their for a WHOLE month.

I think this is a good system, and it comes off as a much more friendly, "come as you please," type atmosphere than thinking of a bunch people standing idly in line and checking their watches.:what:

I don't know how the Grauman works though. In fact, I'm not positive this is how it works it all. But that's the gist of what I got reading other boards and sites.

Its a bummer if they dont play ROTS at the Chinese. Just for its history sakes, they should. Plus they KNOW it makes them money. Something smells fishy....

In the end, i think the Arklight has a better sound system or at least equal.

But i still rather see it at the chinese...

Ok...I'll coment on a couple of things said here. And add my own thoughts...

    1. I don't know the people in line but I see them on my way to work everyday...I see the lightsabers...the computers...the tents.. and part of me wishes I could be there just to experience it. But the other part of me does ask....don't these people have jobs or school?(as was said earlier)
???I wonder if I had no responsibilities if I'd be right out there with them???

2.I do want to say that I like that there are people out there in line though...I don't think it would be the same without them there to represent the fanatical SW fanbase. I'm driving my gf crazy with SW....at least they have a couple people at arms length away to talk SW with.

    3. I totally agree that it should play at the Chinese theatre just for the history of it...how can it be the only SW film that doesn't play there? (and because I live right behind it)

    4. The Archlight has better seating than Manns(they are equal on sights and sounds) but I'll probably end up walking home on the streets of Hollywood at 2:30 in the morning or later depending on which showing I get tickets for. Call me crazy, but, I'd rather just cross the street to get home!

Hey Artmaul,

Do you know if both the Chinese and the Arclight have the Christie CP2000 2k digital projector? I was wondering about that. I would assume that if Lucas wanted the movie to play at either theater, he would demand it.

Thanks in advance.

Yep and I'll be here until the end of May when I move to Europe.

Dude I went downtown today to the Hard Rock Cafe. Had a Sam Adams(default beer of choice) and noticed on the board that they have a drink called "Chewbacca". So after the beer I asked the bar chick for the Chewie and that shit was great! Highly recommended.

To get back on topic; I agree with Anakin X, to not show ROTS at the Chinese is blasphemy. It's like Fox not distributing Episode 3 and the movie opening with the Paramount or Universal logo instead. Just not right.

Hey guys, "long time/first time", etc, etc, etc. I stumbled across this thread doing a search for news and mentions that we're at the "wrong theater".

Anyhow, to address the topic at hand, Art's been a close friend of mine since meeting him in the 2002 Episode II line, and this isn't just some SW Fan thing, this is his livelyhood. It's what he DOES for a living. I'm throwing my full support behind my boy, and hope you all do too.

Now, as to LiningUp.Net and how it all works:

I have a 45+ hour, full time Mon-Fri day job.
I have a wife of 11 years this June.
I have 3 kids. Two of which are in some sort of extracurricular activities (dance for my girl, baseball for my boy).

As you can imagine, it's quite a full plate, and I still have time to do the line. It doesn't take putting your entire life on hold. You sign in when you get there, and sign out when you leave. Your hours are logged, and on May 18th, you'll be put in line in the order of who has the most hours logged.

In any case, that's it in a nutshell. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask away, or contact my by any means you like. :heavymetal:

Up here in Modesto the only line that I am going to worry about is the wait for a good seat. Getting the tickets is not a problem, just the waiting to get to actually see the movie is. Any seat at all is good, but I just dont feel like have a stiff neck from looking up all night.

Sorry I missed you guys today. I will definitely try to make it next time. In other news, I have officially decided that if the movie isn't playing for at least one showing on opening night at the Chinese, I'm not seeing it opening day.

I also have faith that Mr. Lucas will not let his fans down. So much faith in fact, that I didn't buy a ticket to Arclight or any other theater.

Many apologies for the service glitches currently happening on the webstream. This is a technical issue which is currently being handled by Continental Vista and our liason with them. As soon as I have more information, I will let you guys know.

Also, it would be wise to hold off on subscribing until I let you guys know the webstream is solid.

Thanks again for your patience.

OK guys, so here's the update. Continental Vista, the company carrying the webcast, has a system full of bugs, and an interface that is confusing and expensive to customers. I am working with them on a solution. Hopefully by the end of the week.

So, it appears Continental Vista is offering some free viewing time this weekend due to all the SNAFUs of the last two weeks. I will be showing some of the pre-recorded content this weekend such as interviews with VFX Supervisors Jim Rygiel and Richard Edlund, some featurettes, and line member bios.

So if you can't understand why people are out there, or just want to find out what's up out at the line, tune in.

Hey guys -- just an update on the webcam:

Most of the technical problems have been resolved. We're currently broadcasting our full day schedule as follows:

8:00 a.m. -- Broadcast day and ID
9:00 a.m. -- Live Line Cam
1:00 p.m. -- Fan Films / Specials
2:00 p.m. -- Live Line Cam
7:00 p.m. -- Star Wars Trivia Challenge
7:30 p.m. -- Meet the Line!
8:00 p.m. -- LUN Featurette
8:30 p.m. -- Live Line Cam
11:00 p.m. -- Fan Films / Specials
12:00 a.m. -- Sign Off
12:05 a.m. -- Line Cam After Hours (Mature Live Content)

This is a slightly less ambitious schedule than we set forth to webcast, but when we cut the documentary, you'll see the types of issues encountered throughout this very arduous and insane period of time thus far.
