It's obvious why they changed it. A robotic arm going up that high simply wouldn't look right. This is more practical. No big deal to me.

Er, his arm was lopped off just above the elbow. The mechanical arm connects at the elbow. It's hardly a huge goof.

The arm looks really cool. It's hard to tell if it's connected to his elbow, or if he has a robotic elbow, so I'll hold off on any nitpicking for now.

It does actually look to me like he has a mechanical elbow - there are metallic glints down there. That would be consistant with where he lost the arm. I still don't know why he didn't go for the skin model like Luke's though...

Number 2 I like. Old technology doesn't hold water for me. Almost nothing about the Republic seems to put them behind technology wise compared with a bunch of Rebels on the run. If anything, judging by the X-Wings etc, the Rebels are limited in what they have at their disposal. In a situation like theirs (war time) they may well have developed some improvised medical techniques in the field but cosmetic appearance would not have been a priority.

I think it looks really cool. Hey I got a Q, are we actually going to visually see Anakin's dream or parts of it? Or is it just going to be a retelling a la EII. It would def be out of the SW style to show a dream sequence, but in this instance, I think it would be lame to just to a carbon copy of EII's sweaty nightmare scene.
