What dramatic touch with that opening "war!" part.

Actually, sounds good. Looks like the one that was floating around the internet for a while wasn't real.

Interesting how it describes Grievous as being a droid when he's got some biological components. Guess the distinction of a bio organism and a droid is a lot less looser than we thought.

It is saying he is a leader of droids, not a droid himself.

If you or I were in charge of that army, we'd be known as the "droid leader", too.

I just took it at face value - he's the leader of the droid army.

We could be called the "droid leader" but it doesn't clearly state that he's in charge of droids. For all we know the word "droid" could be used to describe GG and not who he leads. It's all in how you read it. Perhaps GL intentionally wrote it to be a little vague.

That's good prologue.

This line in particular caught my eye:

Thundercracker wrote:

I love the way this plays on the moral ambiguity that will be seen in the film (through Anakin, Sidious and the fall of the Republic/Jedi ), which will be resolved with Episode IV.

Boh Hell Yeah.

Makes me think of the song, "War! What is it good for?"

Still, it's awesome.

The "War!" line reminds me of old WWII propaganda news reels. I'm also digging "heroes on both sides." Overall it's damn good. Man do I want to see this film now.

i too found the 'heroes on both sides' line intreging and those debating the driod leader connotation - would the line be more like driods' leader if ment as a retraction or doesnt plurification (btw this is not a word and me no speaka english to good) not matter ??

This paragraph is a bit messy. Those last two sentences need some re-work.

I agree with you.

War!

Man, that's too awesome. If only I had time to buy Sky Captain, I'd have my geek nostalgia fix for the next month.

So they really are pitching it that the Separatists have the Republic on the ropes and kidnapping Palpatine is a bid to end the war. Of course we all know how little the Clone Wars have to do with the plot of the film, but the average moviegoer won't. I wonder if it will be public knowledge how early Dooku gets it? That may come as a shock (this whole opening would have stunned me, had I seen it fresh - not that it may not anyway).

Edit: In case you hadn't noticed, clunky writing is absolutely essential to Star Wars crawls. :)

The "heroes on both sides" thing isn't new. Lucas has written about it before. From his introduction to the novel "Shatterpoint":

Quote:
The Clone Wars raged for three long years, tearing the Republic apart and spawning countless tales of heroism, bravery, treachery, and betrayal, as heroes on both sides fought to defend their ideals. As dedicated as the Separatists were in their resolve to create a new order to replace the failing Republic, the Jedi were equally determined to preserve the Republic and defeat the Sith, who they understood all too well were the masterminds of the Separatist movement. They still believed in the Republic, still deemed it a Republic worth saving. Their faith, which gave them superhuman strength in the face of the mind-boggling power of the enemy, had yet to be shaken.

If the scroll has stayed the same since last year, we now know what part of CW season 3 will be about (since they´re going to show things described in the opening scroll).

You know what would be real super. If the Council send more than just two Jedi after the Chancellor of the entire frikkin Galaxy. Does anyone find that plot point a little unbelievable? What are the rest of the Jedi doing that is so damn important??

There aren't just hundreds, or even dozens of jedi to throw around. There are thousands of worlds, many of which are still fighting the clone wars. Jedi are fighting battles on those worlds and have the important task of leading armies into battle (in addition to the ones that command fleets). So for 2 Jedi generals to be involved in a rescue mission is not by any stretch unbelieveable, especially since these are among of the most trusted and powerful jedi in the order. It's not like they're flying alone, there are hundreds of ships, both fighter and capital to assist.

They sent 200 Jedi to rescue Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme. Don't you think the most powerful and important man in the entire galaxy would garner equal if not exponentially more attention? Obviously there are Jedi on Coruscant, why don't the council members get off their dusty asses and help out?

Geonosis meant more than just rescuing Ani and Obi, it was to try and strike a decisive blow and end the war before it got off. The mission was to kill Dooku, but as we know, it didn't work out.

By ROTS, there are thousands of theatres of war, not just one for the jedi to fight in. It makes fine sense.

It's also just a movie and Anakin and Obi-wan are the main characters. It's called drama.

It has to be believable to be dramatic. Having said that, I will obviously suspend my belief for the movie and the scene. I just think they could've tossed in a few more Jedi Starfighters and background Jedi engaging in the battle to make it seem like the Jedi are making a more concerted effort.

Doesn't the first paragraph of the crawl explain enough??

Quote:

Yep. There's a bigass fucking galactic war going on. The Jedi are all over the galaxy, not just chillin' at the temple, like they had the time to during most of Episodes 1 and 2.

It's about as believable as... well... a STAR WARS movie!

This crawl really makes me wish that the bulk of pretty much the only actual war we've seen in Star Wars (despite the title) hadn't taken place between films...

The first paragraph is weird simply because it's different. The camera tilting UP after AOTC's scroll was weird - because it was different. Different isn't necessarily bad.

It's an intense opening. And it stays intense from scroll to crash landing on Coruscant (at least 20 minutes). "War!" is an appopriate start, IMO.

As for it conflicting with ANH and "It is a period of Civil War." Well, yeah, it was. And it was in ROTS, too. But in ANH, the war was not going to end anytime soon. It really was a "period" of war (as in 3 movies worth). For ROTS, the Clone Wars end during the movie. The final climactic battle is nigh. WAR!

As well, though there is a brief "shoot out," we don't begin ANH with anywhere NEAR the action as ROTS will have.

We would have had one up several hours ago but Foxbat wanted to use the exact same font as the "real version" will have.

Also the X-boarders had one up since this morning.

A friend of mine whipped this one up last night with a tiny bit of help from me. We're both well aware of the imperfections, but all he had to use was iMovie & this is as good as we can get it. I didn't want to share it here because I consider MF.com to be a place where only the best if good enough, you know. But, since people are looking for one, here's that one, on Rapidshare (Just scroll to the bottom, wait for the countdown to end & DL the link it gives you). This will hold you over until a good one is done!

Hero's from both sides? Why is this interesting? There are always hero's on both sides. Never heard of the Italian war hero.... bad example, German war hero the Red Barron or the Stuka pilot Rudel? Of course each side will have its own heros.

Because the general public knows him as Count Dooku. If the name 'Darth Tyranus' shows up in the crawl, Joe Sixpack is gonna think, "Huh?"

Even Dooku thinks what he's doing is right, I'd believe. I remember someone mentioning this here before, but Dooku thinks that Sidious is actually going to use his new power to reform the Republic, so it won't be corrupt, which is what Dooku wants. So all in all, Dooku thinks he's doing the Galaxy some good...in reality, he's a pawn just like the rest.

Yeah, I've been a major supporter of the - Dooku is a good guy at heart, just using bad methods - theory, driven mostly by the sense of honour that Lee gives him. But also due to the fact that he was a Jedi for so long, which must have had a long lasting effect on him. I do hope we see some of that in Ep3, some sort of realisation of the true evil of Sidious and awareness that he got played. There's so much to get into Ep3, I doubt we'll see it save for whatever Lee puts into the role.

But I do like the idea that so many of Palpatine's pawns, even the Jedi, think they are doing the right thing and yet are helping this greater evil.

Dogg.

Yes, it reminds me a lot of the Eastern front in WW2. It was basicaly evil vs. evil but most people thought their side was right. It seems a lot of Lucas ideas come from the war.
