The sheep in me is having a screaming fangasm, but the graphic artist in my head says it looks extremely unbalanced. A lot of it seems forced: Mace, Yoda, Vader, Sidious. It just looks really amateurish.

I love Lucasfilms idea of marketing this movie. :whateva:

DARTH VADER

also Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith *time permitting

This is my least favorite of Stuzan's posters. Liked the TPM and AotC, but this gets a meh from me.

Apparently on T'Bone Struzan posted that LFL is manipulating the poster. He said " Yes they manipulate on this one, so we will see together. "

can a photoshop wizard remove that ISB logo on the high res shot?

I hate how they add their tag to pics.

Couldve been better. Palps looks fucked up. Yoda looks gay. No Grievous or Dooku. Why is Grievous even in this movie?

Just wondering... do most casual fans already know that Anakin will fight Obi-Wan in this movie? Or does the poster give it away to those who would've enjoyed that surprise? I know its hard to comprehend, since I've been waiting for years now to see The Duel, and I've just assumed that everyone knew that it would happen. However, at least 2 people that are casual SW fans were 'spoiled' when I told them how much I was looking forward to master vs. apprentice.

At first glance I didn't like the poster at all, after seeing this, with all 6 posters I actually like it a lot more.

You know, at first glance I loved it...then I saw Sidious. I couldn't think of any reason why he would look the way he does, but you know...in thinking about it, I think it's a "stylized" version of him...of everyone, really. I know it should bear some likeness of him, but even if not...I think I can get over it.

And I agree with the comment made about the RotJ poster, it is a mess. They should take the Palpy shot from the ESB poster, since he doesn't look like that in the film, and put it on the Return of the Jedi poster. Also, they should place the duel shot, that's on the RotJ post, on the Empire Strikes Back on, since it's actually the duel scene from ESB. Meh...I'm thinking too much...

All in all, I like this poster but I do think it could be better.

I e-mailed Struzan and asked about the 'manipulation' rumor, and he said Lucasfilm didn't tamper with his image so much as take two of his paintings and combine them.

Can anyone whip up one with all of the posters, like the one posted before with all of them together, but with the original posters and not the special edition ones? That would be awesome :)

After eyeballing this damn thing for nearly an hour now, I think I finally realized whats fucking it up. It's lighting on Anakin's hair where it meets vader... It looks like an amatuer photoshop art job. I mean, no care was taken to blend the obviously original red background with the black of vader... My eyes are drawn right to the damn thing.

I mean, I'm by far no photoshop guru but I've done MUCH better work than that... Why the hell don't >I< have a job at ILM doing posters.

This movie really deserves a better poster than that. Mace really seems like an afterthought, and I don't know what that wrinkly man down there in the corner is supposed to be. Oh well. Just a poster. :|

The Mace picture is from an Episode II publicity still. :whateva:

Ian looks worse than that guy from Disneyland and Obi-Wan's hair is parted on the wrong side.

What is it with Lucasfilm and flipped images? What is the fascination?

Now even drawings get the flip treatment.

That's a nice layout idea, Sketch. Now that you've got the hi-res version, I bet you could make some bad ass wallpapers... particularly in 1024 x 768! :P

Y'know...I loved both EPI posters, and dug their marketing with the trailers and commercials.

I tolerated EPII's teaser and release poster (Anakin was way too shiny), really liked all the trailers, but not the commercials.

So far we have had two blah posters and a blah teaser...I really hope things improve...

Vader looks great, what is missing is the back-drop of the openning battle scene. Poster needs to concentrate more on ships, lightsabers, droids...what basically makes Star Wars Star Wars. Not just old seen before portraits.

Hmm..So Lucasfilm blended two different struzan posters together to get this one.

How much you wanna bet the Vader Head came from a different poster and the collage at the front originally had a different background?

That said, just because the likenesses aren't all note perfect doesn't make it a bad poster. It's decent enough. I don't think it's IMBALANCED, per say, but it feels a lot better when you focus on Vader's helmet rather than Anakin's face.

But I bet you either one of Struzan's original designs looked better than this combo they came up with.

either way, I already placed my order about 3 hours ago :)

I willing to bet you're right.

I'd bet maybe the background originally contained a battlescene or something of that nature.

That's about the right amount of lens flares.

Well I think the poster is okay. Kinda. I hate that Yoda pose and some elements feel really stuck on. It's okay.

Hell I stopped buying these things 3 years ago. ;)

I'd rate this poster a 5 on a scale of 1-10. TPM's poster looks like a fucking masterpiece by comparison IMO. AOTC's poster is just below TPM's for me in terms of the prequels.

A few things I agree about with others here:

1) The blackness of Vader and the brown shadows on the faces of the foreground doesn't blend well at all and makes it look shitty.

2) Palpatine/Sidious should have been more prominently featured. It's Revenge of the SITH and Sidious is at the bottom. I'd put him right next to Vader.

3) Mace- good lord replace his image or ditch it.

4) I would have liked a line of copy at the top, looks a bit bare up there.

5) Oh and Padme looks like a comatose vegetable. "Huh what?"

I bet Drew Struzan is mad, if he ain't he should be. LFL did to him what they did to John Williams in AOTC: hacked his shit up.

I like it, but it would have been better without Vader, or at least have some ships up on top. It is so plain. Plus the explosions, I don't want to say this, but it needs more glare. No that much like seen above.

But it just looks unexciting. Needs more explosions popping out from the center. Vader helmet really looks out of place.

strange that he re-drew the lightsaber clash promo pic(which was already a painting) and even included the crystal like elements emminating from the central clash flare, would have thought drew would at least have been given the original photo instead of someones else already artisitic interpretation :o maybe that was one of the lfl additions?

Overall it's not that bad - even though there are dozens of fan posters that look better - but Christensen's "Aw, moom!" look, Darth Margita Bangova in the corner, and the painfulame Photoshop flares damage it considerably. Perhaps the high resolution version will make it all look more interesting.

Hyuck, hyuck - Firefox's Adblock prevented SW.com's image of the poster from being loaded. :D Those using Adblock with the G filter, disable this rule:
"/[^\w=+]promos?t?e?(box|ions?)?(\W|_|\b)/"
to see the poster. :)

I think it's OK, not the best SW poster I've seen tho. It looks a bit like that the main image is squished into the bottom half a bit to make room for some Vader action. Anyway, it does the job, as long as the movie itself kicks arse it's all cool...

Hello...

This is my first post, though I've known about this site for a while now. I'll just say that you can definately tell that it's two paintings blended (quite amateurishly) together. The lighting is all wrong on the foreground pic for a poster with a Vader backdrop. If Struzan had really intended that foreground composition to have a Vader backdrop, there's no way he would have put so much backlight in; it makes no sense... Vader is dark, yet there seems to be huge halos of light around the edge of the people in the foreground. Ah well, LFL had to tamper with it I suppose.

Overall rankings IMO:

#1: TPM
#2: ANH (SE)
#3: AOTC
#4: TESB (SE)
#5: TESB
#6: ANH
#7: ROTJ (SE)
#8: ROTS
#9: ROTJ

Not that it matters immensely. When the film finishes it's theatrical run, the painting will scarecely see the light of day, as the DVD box art (which will probably be comprised of the usual promo pic collage incorporated on all the other DVD cases) will replace it. Ironically, one of the few places the original poster will be seen is in the publicity archive on the DVD itself.

I'm not too fussed really. It could have been better, but I won't loose any sleep over it's crappiness.
