Ok, I'd like to see how they explain that seeing as how the game takes place between ANH and ESB

yea i saw that pic the other day on the SWG forums

SOE have basicaly dumped the timeline that the game was originaly set in.

the timeline was thrown out the window the day the first person unlocked jedi..
with luke yoda palpy and vader are the last of the jedi / sith / dark jedi an all.
since then the jedi population has exploded and its now 1 in 10 people is .. or has a jedi charecter.

then we can talk about all the battle droids that litter the game.
super battle droids and droidekas in about 4 or 5 dungeons.

then theres the the new expansion.. Rage of the Wookies.
this is basicaly an advert for Revenge of the sith.
which is ok i guess.. but it completely spits on the timeline that most people originaly started playing the game to be part of (myself included)

SOE dont seem to care though.. they seem to cater for the 1337 grinding counterstrike type players rather than the true star wars fans and/or roleplayers.

Except your whole argument went out the window when you started blaming SOE for it. Lucasarts calls the shots, SOE only implements what they request.

LucasArts are an organisation and as such need to make money. If these additions help do that then so be it.

Well sorry but I believe I have a bit more experience in this matter than you do as I was once a GM for SWG a long time ago.

SOE develops the game, yes, but LEC is who decides on what content goes into the game. No one tells Lucas what to do with Star Wars and nothing with the Star Wars name on it is done without their approval.

Well if you search the SWG forums you will find that Grievous does not have an GutSack... that is probaly used in his Storyline for SWG, but remember SWG is YOUR Galaxey and not Lucas's so i guess its possible...

(Searching for Gutsackless GG pic now)

Lucasarts and SOE royally fubared Star War Galaxies during the initial design phase, when they decided to have the game take place during the Rebellion era.

What should have occurred to SOE (and Lucasfilm) is that almost anyone who plays an online version of Star Wars WILL WANT TO BECOME A JEDI! Since the game takes place during the rebellion, there shouldnt be any jedi, so SOE and Lucasarts shot themselves in the foot. They almost destroyed the biggest reason why people would want to play this game.

Fortunately, SOE and Lucasarts came to their senses, and are allowing jedi into the game. Since this obviously breaks with the SW story, I think its perfectly reasonable to shatter all other SW storylines for this game. Afterall, its just an online game. SWG has absolutely no effect on actual SW canon.

I have a jedi in SWG, and its one hell of a grind to become one. Almost not worth it, IMO. I hope to face General Grevious. His constant coughing will be the least of his problems, when he meets me, hehe.

Ah this explains it:

Quote:
one of the expansion's most challenging quests involves exploring the caves below Kashyyk's surface, where a mad scientist has somehow gotten hold of the designs for the fearsome General Grievous.

Actually, that would constitute EU bullshit, since the only things in SW games that are considered non-canon are internal settings and rules. Elements made for games that have to do with storylines, and don´t conflict with the official continuity, is part of the EU. (And believe me, I´ve both seen and read WORSE. Thankfully not paid for it. )

I have to admit this is somewhat cool, as it would open up an opportunity for a Luke/Grievous duel in a novel or comicbook. :heavymetal:

Aw, man, even better! Might even be a good opportunity for a character study, Vader's personality vs. Grievous'.

That green thing that holds his guts in ROTS. It gets blasted by Obi-Wan, apparently killing him.

...apparently not... :meatwad:

even said that the jedi starfighters would be available

Just ´cus they´re called Jedi starfighters, doesn´t mean they are exclusive to them. What if it´s "The starfighter of choice for nine out of ten Jedi"? :)

SWG doesn't have a timeline. Period.

Now buy my Holocron for $100million credits or I will shoot you with my legendary CDEF Pistol 01/01/35 00/100.

True, but they did bother to show him in a post-ROTS form, with no intestine-container.

all it is, is just a lame attempt by SOE to try and round up any extra cash they can.

True, but it´s a cash-grabbing move I like. And it opens up for more stories with the mechanical lizard. :heavymetal:

Again, Lucasarts decides what happens with SWG. Not SOE.

This is interesting, Seems like there tieing all 6 movies together with the latest expansion, However, There are still some planets missing, They need to add Kamino, As well as Utapau, Though I don't know how well those planets would play in a MMORPG enviroment.

SWG is ok, its the only MMORPG i have or ever will play.
Im not suprised by this move, cause like its already been said in this thread... they dont really care to follow the story line.

I played for just over a year lol befor they instituted most of the starwars content. I left just a few months befor JTLS.

it was still a blast

The thing about the MMORPG, Is that it doesn't fit into the official continuity, Cause the continuity in the game all depends on what you do as a player, As far as Grievous apearing in this game, We don't know for sure if hes an NPC, Or the fact you can create a race of being simular to Grievous.

^ Wow, and he's a guest because?

Even though it is just a game, its got the Star Wars Licensing. At least that used to stand for something back in the XvT series. Well, at least until...

Yep, it's real. I gave up on galaxies after JTLS came out and the GCW did not.
