He uses his disfigurement as an excuse of the jedi's treachery. Where else would you illustrate his transition? This is the last movie in the series. How would it make sense if for the first time you see Palpatine disfigured in ESB? How would that be justified? Keep in mind that people know that Palpatine/Vader are sith by the time of the Empire. This isn't a big secret once Palpatine proclaims himself Emperor.
In using force lighting, he releases his hatred and transforms himself into his true form. It's as if he was disguising himself the entire time, rather than evolving into how he looks in ROTJ. He doesn't make himself look like that willfully to blame the Jedi, but instead looks that way to begin with. The ultimate expression of the dark side brings that out in him - he is the 'chosen' sith master after all.
You're saying you wouldve bought into a transformation that saw an elderly man mold into a alien-like creature over what happens in the film? I'm sure glad you didn't write the screenplay.
Bottom line. It's a fantasy movie and he's the ultimate villain in the story. By demonizing him, it's finally identifies who the true bad guy is in the series.

promo photos are garbage. Save criticism for final shots. I'll be the first one here to say it looks garbage in the film if it really does.

Long time lurker. I finally had to say something cause I like this site. I've downloaded alot of the sound tidbits and I think all are freakin awesome. As a member of the SW generation that saw ANH in the theatre, ROTS is going to be the movie of a lifetime. Must see trailer NOW, must see ROTS right after trailer. Can't talk... have SW withdrawals.
