One of the big problems I've always had is this lack of knowing the galaxy's history. Everyone seems like an ignorant moron. Does anyone remember any of the good times in the Old Republic, and especially about the Jedi? In something like twenty years the Jedi are basically forgotten... a myth. Han calls it "an ancient religion." Huh?
The same thing is happening here. Rey knows Han as a smuggler and not as one of the biggest heroes of the Rebel Alliance? Finn thought he was a wookiee. Yeah, I know its played for laughs... and I laughed, but really? Luke, Leia and Han did everything they did and no one knows? No one remembers? No credit? Nothing?
Instead of people wasting time writing crap books and comics, real writing efforts could've been made to truly fill in the gaps between Episode III and Episode IV. Now it looks like between Episode VI and Episode VII as well.
I would love to see stories of Luke debriefed after Endor. Everybody finding out Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One... the Jedi Messiah who turned to the dark side. Everyone finding out Leia was Luke's sister and Vader/Anakin's daughter. Leia deciding to run for Supreme Chancellor in the New Republic. All the problems that could result. The personal and political stories are limitless. Other interesting writing would be Han and Leia's relationship, marriage, etc.
Do you have the attention span of a two-year old in need of constant action? Well, further battle for years with the Imperial Remnant should more than suffice. Development of Starkiller, new trooper armors, troopers with batons and shields. All the desirable action story elements are there for even a limited imagination.
I'm just sick of the whole "Oh, we have forgotten the past and so we're doomed to repeat it" scenario. To me, it is just lazy writing.
