There was a rumor of a return to Hoth in the Arndt script.

Mark Hamill is going to be at Disney World for Star Wars weekend in June. Who knows what he'll be talking about at that time.

Iceland looks nothing like Hoth, so I'm betting on a completely new location.
What would be the point of returning to Hoth anyway? To settle a trade dispute between the Wampas and the Taun-Tauns?

Yeah, I don't see them going back there. The whole point of Hoth was that it was a uninhabited, remote wasteland.

Although I'm sure the EU turned it into some sort of landmark where "epic" events happened.

I wouldn't rule out the usefulness of a "remote, uninhabited wasteland" to a good story. If it's another 'random' connection to the OT, that would be stupid.

But a place to maroon someone, or to hide something valuable etc, I could see that making sense.

Sure, but it's such a big galaxy, why go back to that specific planet? If this is going to happen, they better have a very good excuse.

I think that's my main fear.

Hell, there are parts of Montana that look like that.

And Hoth doesn't have "...waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, bubbling sulphur mud pots and thermal pools - not to mention gorgeous fresh air."

Anyway, my point is if they are going to go to Hoth, which I don't think they are, why not use Norway like they did before?
Seems to me they are looking for backdrops they have not used before to depict a new location.

Maybe it's a simple case of filming plate shots in Iceland, more economically feasible?

What exactly is the fiscal difference between shooting plate shots in Iceland as opposed to shooting plate shots in Tibet, as they did for Episode III?

Many Bothans etc: sources tell me that Star Wars Episode VII will begin shooting almost exactly six weeks from today, on May 14th. The first two weeks will be on location in Morocco.

More speculation about the return to Hoth.

I have no problem with the series returning to Tattooine as it's been such a staple of the saga. Overused? Probably, but I can tolerate it as long as it serves the story in fresh, interesting ways.

Hoth is a different story. We don't need two desolate planets in one movie, let alone one that has no saga-wide significance.
