Amazing poster with a few interesting bits:

- Finn with Skywalker saber? I would prefer that it stays in the Skywalker family.
- twin Suns? Curious.
- looks like steps in the carbon freezing chamber on Bespin on the bottom right.

Thought the guy had retired but then he done pulls a fucking Rembrandt out of his hat.

Beautiful image. Hope this isn't the last Struzan TFA poster we see. I'd love for them to continue the compositional tradition of the Special Edition and prequel release posters.

Okay. Time for some obligatory nitpicking:

-Han Solo looks slightly off in the eyes
-Triplet suns?
-What are they trying to tell us with 9 X-wings and 12 TIEs?

From the concept art we have seen Finn "wield" the saber and knew the saber would be the macguffin.

From Empire we have seen non Forcer-users wield the saber to do simple tasks such as slice open a Wampa belly.

Apparently this is just a D23 exclusive poster, not the final one-sheet. Says tweets from people at D23.

Struzan is otherwise retired. This is great. Is it confirmed he will produce the one-sheet?

Nothing confirmed. People speculated he was going to work on TFA since the movie was announced.

I would guess that he would do the final one-sheet. I know it's rare for him to work on both the teaser and final one-sheets for a film, but he did compose both posters for Indy 4 so it's possible.

Abrams told us it's a D23 exclusive, but I'm reading it might be part of a larger poster. I'm not sure, but I have two posters. I really don't know if I should sell it or what. I see them on eBay for $100+

Harrison's appearance was tied to the intro of the poster. They brought out the young cast, and said, "there's someone on that poster who's not on stage!" I was in the front row and got a bit choked seeing Han Solo.

It's a bit wondrous they've trotted out Harrison for two promo events in a row.

That's a great point about it being a larger poster...they just did the same earlier this year for Avengers Age Of Ultron, using each hero in his/her own poster which all combined to a bigger one...I'm hoping theres more to come.

The Drew Struzan movie-weekly.com.au interview is interesting.

Struzan has both seen a cut and read the script. The poster has Finn holding a saber which also suggests possessing The Force. Leaked info, posted concept art, official releases has Finn as a AWOL Trooper turned carrier for Poe Dameron - whose mission is to saber back to Leia who in turn can get the saber back to Luke - while using it for briefly for defensive purposes.

Drew Struzan: ... I’ve never worked with J.J before and so we started working on it and he showed me like half the movie and it was just… a wonderful film and I know it’s going to be grand. I got to read the script and subsequently I’ve seen half of it and I can tell you and the fans this, Honest to god, it is far and away probably going to be THE BEST Star Wars you’ve ever seen.

Drew Struzan: ... I read the script and I saw the film, I got to know the maker and I know Star Wars. I had feelings for it and I paint how I feel about it. And it seems to connect with you and the world. So I have a universal feeling and I paint what I saw. Having seen the film I know what it is about. I got familiar with the characters, so I know what they’re portraying in their feelings. So I paint the situation and I paint the feelings. Not to tell the story, but to tell you how you’re going to feel when you see the film.

ON FINN WIELDING SABER:

DREW: ... How can I represent this film really well? And I did this, like many creatives do, I came up with the concept in my sleep. Just like John Lennon used to write his best music in his sleep, I designed my painting in my sleep. That was the first one I did and I went for seven months doing stuff and in the end, guess which one they picked?

To me it represents the film. The spirit of the film, the new characters, the battle again to find the truth, to grow up, to find the purpose in life. It’s all those things that Star Wars had to be and is still. And I hope to represent that again to a new generation.

Also was it necessary to have three suns on the poster:

One thing I noticed - and haven't seen commented on anywhere else so far - is how Rey is position between the "light side" and the "dark side", almost half and half. It seems to be a little more convenient a placing than using the character as a barrier between the two different halves...

A case for symbolism could also be made for the colour of her attire ... TPM Anakin and Empire Luke both had similar coloured costumes
before sporting dark threads.
