Well that's interesting! I wonder if Nien Numb and Ackbar play prominent roles. I don't know who the other dude is. Just a random pilot?

Gorwyn could be be Wedge's nephew. The reason why is that Gorwyn could be inspired by Gawain (in Welsh it's Gwalchmei, which means hawk of May. Hawk - pilot?) who was not only one of the Knights Of The Round Table but also King Arthur's nephew.

Wedge was Rogue Leader so you could say he was "king" of the squadron. Another thing that sort of fits is that Gawain was the son of Arthur's estranged sister Morgause and in the EU Wedge has an estranged sister called Syal so Lucasfilm could have used her character and made Gorwyn her son. Also, since Gawain was a knight maybe Gorwyn could be not only an X-Wing pilot but also a Jedi knight too? (Although he looks a little "large" for a Jedi, lol!)

Plus this description of Gawain, who was known as "The Maiden's Knight", could imply that Gawain defends Rey or Leia in some way in the movie: "Gawain is often portrayed as a formidable, courteous, and also a compassionate warrior, fiercely loyal to his king and family. He is a friend to young knights, a defender of the poor, and as "the Maidens' Knight", a defender of women as well."

Edit: I also just discovered that Gorwyn itself is a Welsh word that can mean both extremely white as well as an extreme craving. Well Gorwyn is white and his portliness is likely due to a craving for food, lol!

Gorwyn is probably just Greg Grunberg's excuse to be in this movie.

J.J. Abrams always gives Grunberg a part in his movies. They're childhood friends and it's become a tradition for them.

He was Kirk's drunk step-dad in Star Trek (on the car phone) and the pilot of Oceanic 815 on Lost.

These appear to be from the same batch that gave us Leia.

Having Ackbar and Nunb hanging out on Yavin makes sense.
