Two live action 'films'? That's a little weird, especially given they're only 1 hour each. That isn't a movie. Not long enough for a movie, too few episodes for a TV series.

[align=left]But of course, we were most interested in talking with George Lucas, the affable genius film director who occasionally graces us in New York with an appearance. Lucas is absolutely one of my favorite people, a lovely guy who seems unaffected by his enormous success.

Lucas is currently preparing "Indiana Jones 4" with Harrison Ford, Blanchett and Shia LaBoeuf. The latter plays Ford's son, which means his mother was possibly the character Karen Allen played in "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

"I can't say," Lucas said when I brought up Allen.

Lucas says that Sean Connery still hasn't signed on, but his character, Indy's dad, is in the script. Other than that, his lips are sealed.

"Steven thinks we can keep the whole thing a secret," Lucas told me. "I explained to him that it's impossible nowadays. We can't live like that."

So then, tell me more about "Indy 4," I suggested.

"Oh no," replied Lucas with a smile.

Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?

"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

Well, it's not "Star Wars."

"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

Here is the whole article. He was talking to Lucas off the cuff at some Time magazine party. Loud, plus alcohol, plus bonehead reporter who sees George Lucas and only thinks Indiana Jones and Star Wars movies, and you have the above story.

I think the word he was looking for was SERIES, not FILMS. With each episode running an hour long each.

Fox 'news' doesn't employ actual reporters anyway, so I'm not surprised. The end of that reads like something you'd put together if you spilled free martinis on your notes.

Steven Sansweet: No, no, no, no. There are going to be two more Star Wars television series. One of them is well into production. That is Star Wars: Clone Wars. It's a CG animated show, which we suspect will be on the air sometime next year. And then George and Rick McCullen were just now starting work on a live action series. A drama. That will probably be coming out in 2009 or 2010. He is actively at work on both of those. But the CG animated series is more adult. It has a lot of humor in it. It is very cinematic. We will be talking about that for the first time at the celebration.

MovieWeb: Well, there was an article making the rounds on the Internet that Lucas was planning two made-for-TV movies based in the Star Wars universe. So, that's not true?

Steven Sansweet: There is no truth to that whatsoever. I haven't even seen that rumor. I can absolutely tell you that is not true.

MovieWeb: Can you tell me anything about the footage we will be seeing from Star Wars: Clone Wars at the Celebration?

Steven Sansweet: We have no plans right now to show any footage. The TV show has not yet found a home on television. Until that happens, they are telling me that they are unable to show any actual footage. So, we'll just have to be patient and see what develops.

I love how they're all pushing the "we havn't found a home for it on a TV network yet" line, they're beating that horse for all it's worth. Like any network would turn down ANYTHING with the "star wars" label attached. The idea that they havnt "found a network" for it yet, is in itself complete rubbish. Fox, Cartoon Network to name two that have had relationships in the past NBC would take such a product in a hearbeat. Fox is the logical choice, and no doubt they've already arranged a "due dilligance" agreement to be approached first.

So thats rubbish, using that as an excuse to not show preview material or stuff like that is just dumb.

I don't have an intricate knowlege of how US TV networks get their programmes, but that idea that these latest offerings from the biggest franchise ever created (in terms of revenue and fanbase) hasn't found a "home" is just ludicris.

It's a shitty excuse for not ponying up some "sneak preview" stuff and leads to me to believe anything of the sort will show up online through their official pay-for subscriptions.

However they might be expecting an absolute guarantee that they'll have complete control over the broadcasting - day and times, can't be axed etc. Remember, Lucas wants 100 episodes of the live action show. What if a network wants to cancel it 2 seasons in or move it to a dead timeslot? He'll want safeguards against that. Might narrow the choices a little?

If it cancels they can always move it to the WB

I think it will involve Darth Plagius and Palpatine because they cancelled the book being made.
