Easily the worst episode of the series.

Can't wait for something more 'meat and potatoes'

Thanks again for the upload Topeka. :heavymetal:

What saved this episode for me was the production. The animation was equisite. Greedo The Bounty Hunter's home planet of Rodia was featured along with the native species: Rodians. This week's lifted Original Trilogy theme was from Empire, when Lando backstabbed Han. Padme the Punisher offset Jar Jar's jive.

Amusing episode. They can't all be Jedi kick-ass goodness. A little goofiness to cleanse the palette.

Thanks Darthpsychotic!

Nothing better than an abrupt break between story lines. Next week is luminara, yes?

Topeka and DP, thanks, as usually for the quick links. :heavymetal:

I actually liked this episode quite a bit. To be honest I thought they handled Jar Jar much better than Lucas did. Probably b/c they were cognizant of the fact that Jar Jar is a joke.

Funny exchange:
Padme: Battle droids?
3PO: No.
Padme: Jar Jar.
3PO: Jar Jar

Overall, the Padme action was pretty bad ass, and like I said, Jar Jar was done fairly well. I hope they have more Padme episodes in the future, its a good change of pace from Jedi action.

Well, for me this one was the first lame episode. Quite a disappointment because I somehow did have big expectations after seeing the short preview. This was supposed to be a comedic episode, but the previous ones had much better humor.

The worst aspect was the relationship between Padme and her "uncle". I wanted someone to shoot them both. The only thing I really liked was how Jar Jar looked and was animated.

Kevin Rubio posted at :gb2tfn: and from what I've read, real briefly, he's had this to say about his involvement in the episode:

• the aforementioned "funny exchange" between C3PO and Padme was Lucas's idea
• explanation for why only Jedi wear robes was cut after the third draft
• origin of the "fiddlesticks" line remains a complete mystery
• there were many changes to his script after he turned it in
• not responsible for the music, vocal performances or planet designs
• felt Padme's hair-pin escape was too predictable, but alternatives were "too convenient, or too James Bond"

It was the Jar Jar from the Robot Chicken specials!

This was one of the most uniquely designed episodes so far. The Gaelic feel to some of the music was a nice touch, as well as the fairy tale-like imagery of Jar Jar's foolhardy mission. There were some slightly confusing moments and unusual leaps in continuity toward the end of the episode, but I guess that can be seen as an extrapolation of the sort of chaos usually associated with our favorite Gungan misfit - or maybe it's just Kevin Rubio.

In the episode commentary, I think Dave Filoni hits the nail on the head when he describes the character of Jar Jar as tragic, as an archetype ("the Fool"), and describes his essential nature as well-intentioned, but uncoordinated. His role isn't always to necessarily bring the funny but to present a warped inversion of your usual run-of-the-mill hero.

Sociopolitical references: Nute Gunray = Newt Gingrich. Nute's plans = Neoliberalism. :?

It's also Knute Rockney / Ronald Reagan.

Bombad Jedi appears to be part of a arc that involves the capture and eventual escape of Nute Gunray. The next episode Cloak Of Darkness has Ahsoka and another female Jedi: Luminara, escort the captured Nute Gunray to trial, with a promised all female fight between the two and Sith Assassin Asajj Ventress.

Jar jar not my favorite, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I try to think of these things as only a part of a big picture so I don't look for finality in my viewing.
