It's going to be totally weird watching a SW film with a Warner Bros. logo instead of the Fox fanfare. :o

Outstanding.

Hopefully Lucas maintains his worldwide release point of view and everyone outside North America gets the movie at the same time.

To play the video I suggest you use the direct link in da OP or use the flash embedded in my post. Just click the lower lefthand corner triangular play button. If the embedded flash is bogging anyone down just say so and it will be fixed.

There is a a lot of shit in the webdoc. The use of wide-camera shots to convey the epic mini-movie feel is quite  The Tri-Droids have that War Of The Worlds TriPods thing going on.

Also one of the Clone Troopers had a Fett-Style jetpack on :monocle:

This Variety article mentions The Clone Wars movie will be 100 minutes long.

After recently re-watching Tartakovsky's series as well as Revenge of the Sith (which are still extremely :heavymetal:), this new footage and promise of a film definately deliver some overdue excitement.

Alright this is actually looking pretty cool now. The series didn't really excite me in the least since it was first rumored. And frankly I was pretty underwhelmed by the 'Clone Wars' in the prequel movies. That footage looks awesome! Though I have to say I'm thinking this new Jedi girl is a bad idea. Also as a side note I just want to go on record saying I miss when starwars.com embraced Quicktime video rather than this ugly freeze-tastic Flash garbage.

...and I hate that Count Dooku still looks like Sam The Eagle.

Kit Fisto looks like a badass.

After seeing that clip the animation does look good especially for Obi-Wan and Anakin. I agree I'm not fond of how Count Dooku looks but should be interesting. I will probably wait for this to come out on DVD before seeing it.

Wow, that actually looks pretty good! I can't wait to see more, as my qualms of it being a hybrid between the cartoon series and CGI have been put away. :chewbacca:

I don't know if I'd rather see that, but I would like to see it as well.

Seeing this thing in gear and moving has really squashed a lot of the fears I had about it up until now. The epic-scale action is in there, and other than some weird moments (yeah, Dooku, wtf?) it looked great. Thanks for the heads up Topeka and thanks for the video DP!

And thanks for the screencaps Cryostar.

I really like the Shot of Anakin, that Jedi-Teen and R2 walking across some desert landscape in the sunset that's really well done. The CG doesn't look as manga as I thought it was going to look, which is a good thing. Jury's still out for me, but I do like the look of the thing so far.

I'm also not quite fond of how Yoda looks his ears seem a bit too big and too pointy.

This is reminds me when I was really against the animation style of the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film but after seeing the film I really enjoyed it and loved the way how they did the animation. So who knows maybe after seeing this fully I will enjoy it and begin to like some of the negative things I find about it.

Yes, Yoda and Dooku look terrible actually. I don't mind the count lookin' shite because he's a bit of a useless character, albeit one of my favorite parts of ROTS. Nevertheless more importantly, who's doing the score for this thing?

I'm glad that Ventress looks better than she did in the original series.

You know, we haven't seen CGi shots of Durge at all, I wonder if he's in this.

He was thrown into a star in SW:Obessions and then resurrected in a badly burnt state in SW:Galaxies. Meaning he's not actually dead in any medium.

I don't consider SWG to be cannon in any way because Sony has blown that game to hell, and it downright sucks.

I really like the "gritty" look and feel of the show. I think it fits in nicely with Lucas' idea of a used universe, espceially one at the height of a galactic conflict.

It's obvious that the appearance of Ventress and just going by the statements of Lucas & Co is that The Clone Wars 2008 is going to be a redux of The Clone Wars and not tied into literature "canon".

Also a big round of applause to Cryostar for the The Clone Wars 2008 ScreenCaps :yay:

AICN has some BIG ASS HI RES scans of The Clone Wars:

Cheers to full frontal.

I thought the purpose of this series is that it spans the entire clone wars, and as it progresses, we'll see the evolution of the clones and everything else so theoretically, Ventress and Durge can be in the beginning, but as the show progresses, they should disappear.

Most welcome for the caps.

Oh I would like to see Durge also but his presence may draw away from the now seemingly bounty hunter oriented Live-Action Series.

A few comments about the Web Doc: In one of opening shots from the web doc there appears to be Battlestar Viper style ships in front of the Torrent Fighters. 2-1B style Magna Droids or Assassin Droids. Nute Gunray has a funky bulked up brainac head look goin on. Cloverfield makes a appearance!

That looks like one of the shuttles, like the one that the emperor used to bring vader back to Coruscant.

Did you notice how menacing Wat Tambor is looking.

I've never been a fan of the "look" of the guy. I've never read any EU stuff on him, but he's never fitted into the 'look' of StarWars for me. I find his whole premise boring, basically.

His whole part of the other animated clone wars stuff was pretty stupid, and the fact he was a giant octopus or something made it look like he was an outtake of Hellboy or something...

I dunno.

I'm not much of a fan of this series, but to Quote DP "Any StarWars is good StarWars" so I'm resigned to going along for the ride...

This is exciting news just the idea of lining up for another Star Wars movie :heavymetal:

Has anyone heard details re: the movie? Please tell me it will be one coherent story and not just a few episodes slapped together, b/c I saw speculation on another forum that it was the latter and cringed. I highly doubt that's the case, but it's a worrisome thought.

If they create a really well-crated 100 minute film that appeals to multiple age groups, they'll unknowingly make a great deal of $$ with this film release. If, however, they view this as just a marketing tool for the TV show, ironically, they'll fail when it comes to the economics of it. Hopefully they've put together a nice tight little story for the film release, and will capitalize on the current movie-going public which is digging these CG animated hero's journey type pieces.

Sorry to burst the bubble Manny, but it looks to be the first 4 episodes of the series played back to back.

Yeah, but that could be a four part story arc, divided into sections for TV, but editied into one cohesive film for the release. I doubt they are just going to slap 4 seperate and loosely connected episodes into the can and ship them out that way. I hope not, anyways. Now that I verbalized it I'm nervous about it too.

Man, that is a bummer. I just don't think slapping together an effort like that is going to fly these days. The reason these CG animated movies are raking it in these days is b/c at the core they follow the same Hero's Journey formula - the one that made the original Star Wars so successful.

That's why your average film written for 8 year olds these days is better structured and written than your average film for adults.

TroyObliX is right though, it could edited into one cohesive piece for the film release. It better be, I think its a big mistake otherwise. Even if they bring some cohesion to the four episodes, it's highly unlikely it will match the quality or success of the animated films Pixar and others are churning out. Which is a shame, b/c the opportunity is there.

I think Troy is right. I can see it being continuous story arcs rather than jumping around like the Gennady cartoon.

Still not fully sold on this as a movie or TV series. In fact why don't they just bin everything they've completed and start again with claymation?

Hypocrite corner: I will be in the queue too [sigh].

Good news for us living in the nordic countries; movie/series are coming here as well!

This month's 23rd day there will be some sort of PR-gathering in Stockholm (Sweden). Someone from LFL will be there telling about the series.

It seems that Plus Licens owns now publishing rights to Star Wars in nordic countries and eastern europe. It's totally neverheard company for me - anyone having more information?

I was able to get copy of confidential email (main points and translation from Swedish):

150 swedes has invitation for that event. International Licencing of Lucasfilm is represented by Casey Collins. There also will be people from Hasbro and Activision. They are probably even able to test demo of Nintendo Wii's "The Lightsaber Game".

My Swedish really sucks (nevertheless it is our second mother's language) but if I'm understanding correctly, first episode of the series will be shown. Series will be 22 x 30 min. Movie is made from 4 starting episodes and duration is 90 minutes.

And for those who's trust I'm betraying with publishing this summary, I apology.

That's great stuff Duke for 2 reasons:

1) It seems like the first mention (that I can remember, at least) of international release dates. You have to figure that if it's coming out in Nordic countries on the same day as the US, then most of Europe and certainly the English speaking world, should be getting it same day.

2) Further mention of a Wii lightsabre game. It's been mentioned before, but seems to have been thought of as referring to Lego Star Wars or The Force Unleashed. But if they're still referring to a 'lightsabre game' then it's probably something completely different. could be fun times ahead for us Wii owners.

From press gathering:

April 24 2008
Don't think it was the very first episode we saw, looked more like two pieces from two separate episodes. The first part was the assault on some sort of fortress which is shown in the trailer with the AT-TE's climbing up a wall but we saw more than was in the triler. The second part was Obi-Wan fighting Asajj Ventress. That bit looked bloody amazing I thought, the graphics were stunning.
