I’d read somewhere on the net that at Celebration 6, on the Digital Stage, parents who had brought their kids we only allowed in to a special screening of a new show called "Star Wars Jedi Younglings", which was a spin off show from The Clone Wars.

The passage I had read was only brief but, it reported that this was a last minute decision from Lucas himself to show this to gauge the reaction from people in the room....there were some high profile people in the screening including Dave Filoni, David Collins & Sam Witwer...the images shown on here are perfect in comparison with what was described in the passage....and that’s all know about this...I wish I could remember where I read this as I could provide the link to it.

It wasn't a new show, but a new arc called "Young Jedi". People thought it was a new show probably because they made a fancy title for that screening.

In a nod to the original Clone Wars cartoon, it looks like Ilum is the home planet for saber crystals. I recently watched the Tartakovsky episodes for the first time since their original airing. Save for Kung Fu Mace, the show holds up extremely well. Since the time frame of Tartakovsky's series is the very beginning and the very end of the war, Lucas’ cartoon has seemed to preserve most of the micro series' continuity.

That episode stands out in my mind, now as it did then, as being one of the coolest and most entertaining of them all.

Agreed. The exchange between the floppy hat kid and Mace at the end, an homage to the Mean Joe Greene Super Bowl commercial was a high point in the micro series for me.

Then again, I am shocked - !SHOCKED! - that a Star Wars fan would pass his/her opinion off as fact. Never, ever happened before...

I know they created a glass-painting depicting ancient EU Jedi for the Jedi Temple. This was cut from its intended episode. Maybe we'll get something similar in this, since it appears the Ilum Temple from the micro-series is in this. I see statues at least.

Wasn't it George that didn't want Wookiee Jedi anymore? I wonder what happened...

Since Pablo name checks Spielberg in a blurb about this arc, I'm wondering if he's guest director for the episodes.


I don't consider my opinion to be fact. Also, I should have used the term "Kung Fu Windu" (as it rhymes).


He didn't want one one in Revenge of the Sith. I'm not sure about overall.

He also didn't want any more Wookiee Jedi in the EU.

Lanter: Did you get to see the Young Jedi thing yesterday?

Eckstein: Yeah.

Lanter: I feel like maybe as The Clone Wars is going darker and darker, there can be something there that can maybe take the place of the more innocent Star Wars thing. It was really good.

Eckstein: It was awesome. It felt like a completely different show. It wasn’t intended to be that way originally. It was just four episodes that were meant to be an arc, and I don’t know how much they want us talking about that -- because ultimately we don’t know the home for that yet.

Lanter: Just upon seeing it -- and I’m not in any of it -- I didn’t know that happened. But just watching it, I was thinking to myself, “That has a place somewhere.”

Eckstein: It does, it does. Our show, naturally, it’s leading up to Revenge of the Sith, which was the scariest movie of the franchise. I think if we didn’t do that it wouldn’t be true to the storyline, but you’re right. There are these new younglings and this new generation that should be introduced to the franchise, and they probably shouldn’t be thrown in right before Episode III.

The Jedi's most sacred place is Ilum, a planet not made by Lucas.

Even if true, what's your point?

Really looking forward to these episodes as its something we have always heard about but never seen...I have only one gripe....I really wish they would come up with new Wookiee sounds instead of resampling all the old ones from Chewbacca...surely all the Wookiees don’t sound the same....especially a young one.

It is true, which is why it's so hilarious.

Also, Disney.

I really liked this episode.

The Gregorian-like chant briefly heard when the young Jedi enter the temple was pretty cool. And poor Biff (sp?). I felt sorry for the guy. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Goonji (sp?), the Wookiee Jedi, made some sounds reminiscent of a certain young Wookiee featured in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. Lastly, I really liked that each of the young Jedi mastered a different personal obstacle or shortcoming. Yoda's speech wrapped things up quite nicely at the end.

A simple but very decent episode.

I like how they made the crystals actually mystical themselves. Plus, no annoying kid characters. Another one-up for the show over the movies. Their ship was cool and reminded me of early consular ship designs for the original film.

Also, the old Sith Empire symbol can be seen inside a softer-looking symbol in the architecture here, just like on Mortis. Balance of the Force, baby.

I did not expect to like this episode, but I am a fan of the Jedi philosophy and of adding more profoundness to The Clone Wars series. At first, I found the younglings way to emotional and out of control for Jedi trainees, but the conclusions were nice.

I enjoyed it a lot. I loved the looks and non verbal behaviour of the "hammerhead" youngling and the Wookie of course.

To be honest, as a child and now as adult, the Jedi philosophy in the original movies is a true inspiration that I actually do think of to help me react as a responsible member of Humanity (keeping in check our more childish emotions, which is always very difficult when some get on our nerves). Other fictions just don't have the same impact. Cheers to the chivalry of Star Wars.

This. My only complaint against the episode was the unnecessary dialogue. I liked the young Wookiee and Ithorian aswell because they didn't use dialogue to show their struggle, and as such they were much more believable.

Wasn`t this one supposed to have a super-duper top-tippy-top secret cameo in itÉ I thought there was something about such a thing that everyone apparently missed at Celebration this year.

That said, I didn`t expect my 7 and 4 year olds to enjoy it at all, as there were no droids, and my oldest has been asking every week for the past few episodes `DARTH MAULÉ!!!!!!! THIS WEEK!!!É Are we back to Darth MaulÉ!!!`. They sat there absolutely SPELLBOUND though.

Oh, and if it requires multiple Jedi to open the way.........yeaaahhh....so, Yoda`s been sitting there how long exactlyÉ

This is the first episode of a four-part arc.

For this arch, a return OT style has been emphasized by Lucasfilm. That statement can be interpreted a lot of different ways. With this one episode, I suppose it means a more mystical portrayal of the Force.

In general, I liked the simple approach taken with the lessons leaned. I thought that it suited the story and the younger target audience. I also liked the design of ice planet Ilum. (Maybe, it's the cold environment for the Sequel Trilogy that Lucas recently referenced?)

Regarding the guest star, I have a feeling that Spielberg directed at least one of the episodes. It would be good cross publicity for Lincoln.

Was the Force ever treated less mystically?

Contrary to popular belief, midi-chlorians are not the Force. They are merely the link between living beings and that mystical entity.

well pointed Alexrd, I agree the Force has never been less mystical, this so called debate over midichlorians is always out of place

This arc has so far shown living crystals that bond with a Jedi and focuses their lightsaber blade. Either these Kyber crystals are mystical or very scientific. Why not both?

Notice I said they "ate Force and crapped lightning". The operative part of that being that they interface with the Force, because I knew some pedant or two would whine about the little buggers only being receptors for the Force.


"Test this blood sample I'm sending you.", "Without them, we would have no knowledge of the Force." "Influence the midicluicauns to create life..."

You can't escape from the fact that there was there was a brief, ill-advised attempt to provide a biological mechanism for the Force. It's almost worse because having made that monumentally stupid decision, when the fans cried bullshit Lucas balked at his own idea and tried to play it down.



Anyhoo, on a topic somewhat related to the thread....David Tennant! Yay! Colour me excited! And I hear this is going to be a recurring character?! Cool! The scripts let him down a bit in the later part of his Who run, but his Hamlet is SUPERB.

And I missed it, are they actually calling them Kaibur crystals? Neat! I read SotME when it came out so loooong....long ago....
