This time of year there are a million movie reviewers putting out what they think are the best movies of the year. Well, I figured since we talk about it so much lets have our own lists up right here. It doesn't have to be top 10 style or in any order if you wish. Just a list of the best movies you've seen this year. And also if you like the worst movies.

Here is mine:

BEST

The Dark Knight
Iron Man
The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons
Kung-Fu Panda
Quantum of Solace
Tropic Thunder
Cloverfield

WORST

Step Brothers
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls

My favorite huge studio products from 2008:

-Franchise Entries: Indiana Jones IV, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Dark Knight
-Speed Racer*
-The Fall*
-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button*
-Death Race
-Be Kind Rewind
-Eagle Eye
-The Happening
-Paranoid Park

I can't recall anything being truly bad. Everything is so well-produced nowadays. It's like calling out a Fabrege egg for not having a few more millimeters of delicate embroidery.

Slightly less favorite...:

-Wall-e
-Iron Man
-Incredible Hulk
-Cloverfield
-Body of Lies
-Religulous

*Real stand-out pieces

This year was strange, movies included. I'm still mulling over my actual opinion on a lot of these, but off the top of my head, here goes.

+'s

-Iron Man
-Hancock
-Wall-E

Decent/Okay-ish

-Clone Wars
-Incredible Hulk
-Dark Knight
-Prince Caspian
-Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Not even buying the DVD

-Indy IV
-X Files 2 (bought it but gave it to Goodwill)
-Just about everything else I saw

There's an assload of movies I haven't gotten around to seeing yet this year, but all in all I don't think 2008 lived up to all the hype it had coming in.

While I probably didn't see enough movies for it to even be worth making a list, of the movies I did see, "Speed Racer" and "Iron Man" topped off the list. I can't get too fired up for drama in movies, and on the lighter side of the screen those two were standouts.

Top Three:
1. The Dark Knight
2. Wall-E
3. Synechdoche, NY (fucking brilliant, why this thing didn't get the attention it deserved is beyond me)

The Rest: (still good but not as memorable as the aforementioned)
The Wrestler
Religulous
Tropic Thunder
Slumdog Millionaire
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
Iron Man
Let The Right One In
Happy Go Lucky
Cloverfield
U2 3D
Shine a Light
Patti Smith: Dream of Life

Overrated:
Benjamin Button
The Reader (although kudos to the leads for brave performances)

And was I alone here in not completely hating The Spirit?
