In just about any way you can critique a film, summer blockbuster and superhero adaptation this film is worse. Jackman really tries to care about the character and the story, but the script is so terrible, so...I can't even find the word...that it only serves as definitive proof that Hollywood cares so little about quality, especially when it comes to its slam-dunk franchises (though this film might effectively undo X-men from holding that status), that it would green-light this project with that kind of script.

If you liked this movie for 'escapist fun' or 'solid action' then your standards are terribly low. The set pieces aren't interesting at all, the action isn't good, and the story isn't good by any measure. The movie had a handful of moments worth putting to film, but they don't last a combined 2 minutes. This movie would have better served as a stand-alone trailer in that sense because there's nothing beyond that worth paying for.

Good luck making Magneto after this film rightfully bombs. The X-men franchise was simply destroyed by a movie that could have and SHOULD have saved it. How you could botch a film focussed on the most popular and storied character in series lore is unforgivable. I'm not even a die-hard and I'm pissed off. The die-hards simply won't forget it.

I've read the X-Men and X-Factor comics since the early 80's and have to say that it's not easy to live up to a comic series in print however I totally agree with CoGro on this.

Wolverine is probably the most popular mutant in the "X" line-up and he is not done so badly wrong by Jackman per se as an actor,more the lines and story he has to take the character to are lame.

It's common for this type of thing when a winning formula is not kept to and the storyline is diluted by too many "good ideas" *sigh*

I'm wondering why you people bothered to pay to see this anyways with all the bad hype. You just made the problem worse. Download the fucker next time. Remember, Fox tried to derail Watchmen. They get nothing from me other than more seeds of the torrent!

it's not just her that's Japanese, he's IN Japan. it's suppose to be a setup for a sequel. this story arc happened in Wolverine #1-4, Uncanny X-Men #172-173, and was written by Chris Claremont with art by Frank Miller.

On a car ride following an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con, Chris Claremont and Frank Miller discussed ways to add some depth to the character. This spawned the four-issue Wolverine miniseries which cast the Canuck as a wayward samurai. The series introduced Wolverine's staple line about being the best at what he does and propelled the character to stratospheric popularity. More than 20 years after it was original written, is this miniseries still valid?

At the time of this story, Wolverine is a man grappling with his animal nature. It's unclear if he is more man than beast and there is a sense that Logan could actually slip off the precipice and lose his humanity altogether. It is a struggle that plays a significant role over the next 96 pages.

When Wolverine's calls to Mariko Yashida go unanswered, he heads to Japan to check on the woman he loves. In Japan he discovers Mariko is now married to a cold and brutal businessman. Further, Wolverine is humiliated in combat, losing honor in front of Mariko who is forced to see Logan as little more than an animal.

As he cuts a swath through scores of Hand assassins and an unfortunate betrayal, Wolverine confronts his very nature. Is he animal or man? Is he samurai or vigilante? The bodies pile up and Wolverine does in fact reach a satisfactory conclusion about himself. This sets Logan on a new path, with a new focus that would serve to define his character for the next decade.

Perhaps most surprising about reading this old series is seeing how greatly Chris Claremont and Frank Miller have changed over the last two decades. Claremont is more concise than in recent years and avoids a convoluted plot in order to remain focused on Wolverine. Miller has yet to discover his inner-Steranko. He still makes great use of negative space, with some panel layouts that were unconventional for their time. Miller puts an old soul behind Wolverine's eyes and gives age to his face. It's a touch that really hasn't been seen before or since.

The original Wolverine miniseries is a brilliant fusion of great writing and great art. It's perhaps an even more important piece now than it has been in some time. Writers tasked with telling new stories about the Canuck should re-read this classic story to remind themselves of what Wolverine once was. The character has begun to stray from what made him great, becoming little more than a caricature. Let this excellent trade paperback serve as inspiration for all other Wolverine writers and artists.[/align]

Okay, here goes. I liked this movie. Could it have been better? Sure. But it covered a lot of ground in the time it had. It wasn't a very "deep" script, other than the Wolve-Creed relationship - which I really bought into more than I thought I would.

Jackman did a great job, and redeemed himself from the crying pussy they tried to make Wolverine into in the X-flicks.

Gambit fans pooped about him not having enough screen time in this, but I always fucking hated Gambit. Here, I actually liked him, so they got that right.

There should have been more Deadpool though. Wade was awesome in the time he had. I don't see what people are bitching about.

I liked this more than any of the other X-Men movies. This didn't feel as "middle-school" or juvenille as the rest of the X-Franchise does to me. I thought it was good. Best movie I've seen (at the theatre) all year. Allthough admittedly, most of the movies I saw this year have sucked. A lot. But overall, I liked it.

Except for some of the FX. Like the obviously CG claws Wolverine pops in the old folks bathroom. That shot in particular stands out as "extraordinarily cheap as fuck looking" in my mind. But overall, that might be my only complaint.

I still like the movie probably because I didn't pay for it.

With that said, Marvel and Hasbro are probably getting paid in the form of merchandising. Wolverine's Star Wars sized (3" 3/4) action figures are going for $8.99 :funkyvfuckoff:

Considering I'm an edgy fuck as of late, I was ready for some "blowing things out of proportion" just for shits and grins. Plus, the dueling saber emoticons are way dope. And now I must abort the "beavervomit hates Wolverine" thread I had been excitedly planning.

Those are some decent figures, btw, but fuck if I'm paying almost $9 for em'. Allthough, I did have some in my cart at Wally world the other day until my grrl convinced me that I could probably find them in the clearance aisle in a few months since the racks were still pretty stuffed w/em.
