Saw it last night at a press screening, I'm not a comic book reader, possibly never read a Spiderman Comic in my life, loved the first movie...thought the 2nd was great too....the 3rd?....

[spoil]
[align=left]
Guys, it's average. To say the best, it's mediocre at worst. There's just WAY to many characters, and the problem with that is you're forced into "intercutting" between stories between all these new elements, and while that CAN work, because of SO MANY new additions and little to no time spent on Sandmans motives towards wanting Spidey dead (it's like, he has 1 fight with him...and somehow the connection is made that to get his daughter well again, he has to kill Spidey? WTF?)

Spiderman going bad, yup...works just fine. He ends up "killing" two characters, but obviously as we're 3/4 of the way through this movie, we not only know they're BOTH not dead, we don't care enough about 1 of them for it to matter. Plus we've seen the trailers...

The irony is, when he "comes back" from being bad, he essentially causes someone elses death. I mean, for all his intents on avenging "uncle ben" in this film, he certainly does more harm than good...I guess thats the whole "power with responsibility thing"

The Good bits?

The Dancing scene is great, not NEARLY as bad as it was made out to be, it works really well...the Harry/Peter feud at the start, the whole set up...brilliant, and well excecuted...not quite the resolution near the end, the tacked on Butler-saves-the-day-minor-character-exposition moment seems SOOO un thought out and was elicited a "groan" from the the entire (full) audience. I can't see people loving this film like the last 2 to be honest.

Sandman's "Birth" (the one and only great CG moment of the movie) just looked fantastic. Pitty you just didn't care about the character...nice CG and nice music (get to that in a moment) and although there were no words spoken, and the guy had no facial features....you just felt his confusement and "sadness" and what had happened. Those pesky molecular funky...machine things in the middle of a "swamp?!!" however....odd

The Bad Bits?

Music, heinous. Can't begin to tell you how horrid the score is. No emotion, just Danny Elfmans "theme" over and over again...sounds like the same 15mins of score from the last movie were just cut in here and there...most of the dramatic moments were actually enhanced by silence, which was a nice touch...but the sore was shit. Can't remember who composed it. Utterly forgettable. Worse than the overblown X3 score

Venom. Character arc, was soooo rushed it was insane....the whole premise between the black goo stuff and finding it's way to Peters house was so ridiculous...it"was almost comical. Then the whole Bell Tower sequence just comes out of nowhere...just really odd pacing with all these action scenes intercut inbetween the GREAT love story and the Harry/Peter story...Eddie Brock, was great...Topher nailed it, pretty much out-acted Tobey off the screen, but the Venom schtick, waste of time...and I would've rather had more Sandman motive...

Sandman is no Joker, no Doc Ock and certainly no worthy opponent for Spiderman. At one point in the movie Spiderman/Peter does the 'look slightly to the left of the camera and wink in his eye and say...' "Where do all these guys COME from?" cue NO audience reaction and groaning....as we KNOW it's a comic book movie, but thanks Spiderman for reminding us of the ridiculous premise of Sandman. His motives are odd, the whole subplot with his kid just DOESN'T make sense as Spiderman ISN'T stopping him from saving his daughters life, he IS stopping him from killing people and robbing banks for sure...but that just doesn't work, the fact he waits RIGHT until the last dying moments of the movie (after Peter has already confronted him about Uncle Ben) to tell him oh yeah, by the way...was an accident...sorry mate....was just ridiculous...if I had "accidently" killed someone, I'd tell them straight up...especially if they had super powers?!!

So yeah, it's Return of the Jedi, Batman Forever and Back to the Future 3 for Spiderman fans, I won't see it again. If I'd paid to see it, I'd be very dissappointed. I can't see comic book fans loving this at all, especially if they have a vested interest in Sandman...not so much Venom, as he's utterly forgettable and bites it so quick (I guess?) save CG costs kinda made the whole "black goo is unstoppable and makes Peter go bad" thing ridiculous....

Harry/Peter storyline was the standout, the love story was outstanding....the first hour of the movie right up until the whole "key to the city" crap was really good stuff...but yeah, this is definatly "Batman Forever" for the Spiderman movies...it's hollow, too many characters and of all the options they had to create some more motive and drama for Spiderman, they took the ONE half-decent duel-motived character we've had for 3 films in Harry Osbourne, and have him killed off by some black CG 15minute waste-a-thon of a character who's Yin to Peters Yang as a photographer was WAY more interesting than what ILM can bash out in between "pirates" flicks.

[/spoil]

Rating? 5.5/10

So Sandman killing Ben was an accident? How did the thug from the first movie factor into all this? How did that all go down, and why?

Why?

Because Raimi isn't a good enough filmmaker to think of something clever. He thought it was easier to ruin the spider-man mythos.

Well...

[spoil][align=left]During the "flashback" scene...the thug ran into shot yelled "get in the car" waved his gun around and drove off. He accidently knocks sandman who fires off his gun accidently and kills Uncle Ben. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Sandman leaves it until the last possible moment to tell Peter this, even though they've had a prior encounter and Spidey has asked him about Uncle Ben, best he can manage is "why do you care?" he doesn't even tell his WIFE it was an accident (or his kid) for chirssakes...it's just silly. It's basically a rehash of the Doc Ock storyline, replace his wife with this dudes kid...except she's not dead, she's just sick. Yup, thats why he's robbing banks. They even do the bank scene again, just outside the bank...instead os inside. Oh, and they fight near a Subway this time, not on a train....but there's no emotion in ANY of the battles...because you couldn't give a shit about Sandman, he's too "massive" and CG to follow for most of the battles and his motivations are blurry at best...[/align][/spoil]

The odd thing is, you would think the BIG plot point here would be Spiderman/Peter "killed" the wrong guy...but nope, they don't even touch on that...

Not even a little, that rather major change to the Spiderman movies is totally left alone. It's a bit aliken to Vader going "Yo Luke, I'm your father" and then the next movie he goes "Nah, just kidding...I'm not....but this other guy is"

Yup.

You know what, I caught Spidey 1 last night on TNT and I have to say, looking back on what I once thought was a great movie with story, character development and a plot, just looks childish and cartoony (and not in a good way). It is campy and will not stand the test of time. Will they reboot the franchise? I don't think it's possible at this stage in the game.

I am really not happy to hear how the Venom/Brock character is being handled in the film. Still, will I go see the movie in theaters? Yes, maybe not on opening night or even opening weekend but the studios will get my money, and that's all they seem to care about.

I don't know the comics at all, if at all. Is this Venom dude like a "classic" villian, or has he only been around like, a couple of years? They way he was portrayed in this movie made it look like something they came up with JUST for this film, has he been around for a while? Tophers character was WAAAAY more interesting than Venom, just insanely good casting and well acted.

[spoil][align=left]The way Venom bites the dust too is silly, Peter gets a whole bunch of aluminium tubes and starts bashing them to make a "bell" noise, because apparently....Venom doesn't like that, then he uses one of Harry's goblin globe things to blow up the black goo. Seriously, I'm not making this shit up...[/align][/spoil]

The reason why I ask, is the whole Venom character is pretty much ruined the ending of the movie for me, and the Sandman "conclusion" was therefore, ridiculous because he got no screen time.

[spoil][align=left]Nice bit though, with Harry and Spiderman teaming up near the end, though the reason for it occuring in the first place (The Butler) kinda made it a bit campy (ala, Batman and Robin)[/align][/spoil]

So yeah.

Find a free ticket if you can, win one on the Radio or something or wait for the DVD. It's honestly, just not worth it given the hype and all...it's about the only movie (save Fantastic 4) that I've seen that I genuinely do not want to see again at the cinema, and keep in mind...I go for free almost every week (and therefore, can see what I like) through my work...

Roll on Transformers.....

The symbiote 'black goo' first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #252, May 1984. The actual explination for Spider-Mans wearing it appears in Secret Wars #8, also in 1984. Eddie Brock as Venom didn't appear until 4 years later, in Amazing Spider-Man #298, at the very end. And then the first real big battle took place in issue #300, in 1988. I totally have this issue.

Thanks for the report Biggs.

Sad to hear, but I guess it has to happen. As bad as Sam Raimi is to some, Avi Arad had a lot to do with this film being chock full of shit. If he would have kept his mouth shut about Venom, we could have had at least a pretty good movie with Sandman. Or maybe just a Goblin Jr/Spidey movie. Alas, I'm still going to see it next week and hopefully I will like it more than Biggs. I'll let you know next week.

Thanks Biggs for reporting.

No worries, I really must check out the spiderman comics, I'm sure Sandman comes across better in the "longer" form of such things.

Lower your expectations by about 80% and I'm sure it's a good 2 and bit hour time filler...but a great movie, it isn't.

EDIT:

Oh and i forgot to mention, there is zero explanation when Brock/Venom teams up with Sandman HOW Topher knows WHO Sandman is outside of his "sandy/giant" persona and how Brock/Venom is able to find him in the first place...he just, comes out of nowhere and they "team up" because they both want to kill Spiderman, again...Sandman seems to have no motive at this point to want Spiderman dead, he even SAYS that AFTER the battle ("I never wanted this") to Spiderman, so THAT whole chestnut is bizzxare in itself.

But the fact Topher just stumbled across a dude, wearing a green shirt who he'd NEVER met before and ASSUMED he was Sandman and they just teamed up, having NO prior knowlege of each other....

Yeah.

That scene was awkward...

Thanks for the review, Biggs. I've tended to like some shitty movies (i.e. King Arthur) a lot, so who knows, I may love this.

Regardless, thanks for the heads-up, that Venom death scene sounds even worse than I'd feared...

Thanks for the excellent review Biggs. I split it into a new thread due to its awesomeness.

I'm still hoping for the best for the film as Raimi pleasantly suprised me before with the first two movies. The thing that most pisses me off about III is the design of merchandise ie action figgas and vehicles

The toys look like shit. Hasbro should have made them more like the new Star Wars figures with movie-accurate sculpts and super articulation.

Oh, thanks DP! Didn't want too much made out of my hashed out review! Heh.

Hopefully I don't come across TOO negative, it does has some good moments. The first half an hour, is really good...I'm thinking now it may run a bit better back to back with a viewing of Spiderman 2...oh I dunno, I can't pretend I liked it...it's just got too much wrong with it. Think Fantastic 4, thats my best comparison...

I liked King Arthur too, heh...I have it on DVD...that and "Spy Game" are my "guilty pleasure" movies....

Biggs, the way the novel explains this is that the symbiote knew of Sandman when he was attached to Peter and that once the symbiote fell onto Brock it was in control more than he was.

I don't remember saying in any of my post that what the novel has is what the movie will be. All I said was that it is an explanation for why Venom would be able to find Sandman. The symbiote had met him before when attached to Peter.

It was worse that I ever could have imagined. I mean, seriously. I can't believe how bad it is. James Franco deserves a Razzie. The score was noticeably awful. The whole film was just shit. It didn't really get anything right this time around.

Well, I just got back. Not exactly sure what to think. I believe that the first hour and the last 30 minutes are as good as the first two. That middle part with Dark Peter is hard to watch. This makes the Raindrops from 2 the greatest thing ever. I mean, at least the raindrops thing was over after 2 minutes. And it didn't really take away from the movie. It showed that Peter was trying to get back to normal everyday life. This middle of the movie, I just can't explain it. I can't understand what Raimi thought might come from this. The walk down the street was absolutely horrible. The phone call with Dr. Conners was just unwatchable. Really, if talking about the worst things, the jazz club doesn't come at the top. These two moments do.

With all that said, I'll still buy the DVD when it comes out. I'll fast forward past dark Peter to get to the second half of a good movie. They should have cut out after The second Harry/Peter fight to the scene in the church. Everything in between is just awful.

I am so disappointed right now.

Going tomorrow night, but I'm wondering whether I should, seeing these reviews and Roeper/Berardinelli's on Rotten Tomatoes.

I've heard someone compare it to X-Men 3, in terms of hype compared to actual quality. I hated X-Men 3. :|

Just got back as well and my first thought throughout the whole movie and still in my mind is...where.is.the.plot?

I mean come on, yea everyone and their grandma loves spiderman in NY, Peter and MJ are still together, but no real progression from the last movie up to now. We have a great villain in sandman (although his character lacks any back story or character development whatsoever). All it seemed like for the whole movie is he is slowly lurching around with bags of money and hitting spiderman. (yes I know the money was for his sick daughter) But we don't have any climax or conflict with his character...he is just there.

I actually liked the "dark" Peter. I don't know that I care for how it was handled, but at least it showed full circle what was happening to him. And the horrible scene in the jazz club could have been summed up with MJ not wanting Peter to come in the club and still played out like it did.

But the way in which the symboite (sp?) was handled sucked. I'm not a huge fan of the comics so I don't know all the back story as to how Peter came into contact with it, but sweet monkey hanging from a tree there is no way it was like that in the comics. Pure chance it just happens to fall from the sky attach itself to his moped, wait for him to fall asleep in his suit and then bond itself with Peter? L-A-M-E. At least it was explained just exactly what it was and why it was so dangerous.

And the way they made sandman a villain was a complete copout.

The way Venom was handled sucked. He was such a great character in the comics and cartoon and he just plain sucked in the movie. Yes it was cool to see him on the big screen, but it was too short and didn't give us the chance to see what a badass the character really was.

Does Franco deserve a razzy? IMO no. After he hits his head, we get to see the happy Harry. Maybe it was a little too over the top, but it wasn't horrible.

The tag team at the end really sucked. Plain and simple. "Go get her bud"? WTF.

There was no reason for the fight at the end. Venom finds Sandman (which isn't explained why well at all and seemed like a cop out) So lets get MJ, hold her hostage and wait for spiderman? That's it? No reign of terror as they team up, which would be a good explanation as to why SM would go to Harry for help. No he knows right away that he needs his Arch Enemy's help.

I am just not pleased with how the "plot" (if you can call it that) was handled. I didn't have high expectations going into the movie and I'm glad that I didn't fork over my scrillz to go see it. Ramey needs to leave the franchise and hand the helm to someone else.

Now for the the things that I liked. Ready?

The fights (except for the last). Action packed, a lot of falling like we haven't seen before. And the effects for Sandman. Those are really the only things that I liked/enjoyed about the movie.

All in all, did the movie suck? No. It was ok. Will they need to reboot the franchise after this? I don't think a total reboot is an option, but the series needs to go in a different direction. Stop with the over the top "wacky" comedy and character flamboyancy (not in a homo kind of way) and focus on plot. Cut out the 3 villains in a movie, and focus on one main villain and maybe one pre-villain to plant the seeds for the next movie (Lizard anyone??)

I know the movie is rated PG-13 and intended for 13 year olds and above. But you're talking about multiple characters deep overwhelming desires and not making the movie entertaining enough. Peter's desire to put MJ first, but also wanting to be the hero, but then he does a 180 when affected by Venom, and then back to where he started after he saves the day; Mary Jane's desire to be with Peter, perform on stage the rest of her life, and live in balance with Peter; Harry's desire to avenge his father, and be with MJ, but then all of sudden his desire goes 180 to the good side, and he dies for it; Sandman's desire to get money to save his daughter, but also the desire to kill Spider-man to do so, even though he's supposed to be a good guy and killed Ben by accident; Venom's desire to kill Spider-man/Peter and practically commits suicide (whether he survives I guess will be seen if a 4 is made); and finally and least importantly, Gwen's desire to hot shit.

So you have ALL that going on, which covers most of the drama. Now it's Raimi's job to try to make the movie entertaining with action, adventure, suspense, humor, web swinging, sand storming, hoverboard flying, and his own personal style.

So the drama was easy to follow but I think it was too deep and overwhelming to be able to enjoy the rest of the film.

I thought it was a good film overall, but there wasn't a good balance of character desire, and the desire to entertain.

Ah, it was ok. Peter dancing around with the double guns pointing at the girls was horrific. His stupid dancing in the streets. Him brushing his hair down I guess was his alter ego bullshit. I guess somebody who worked on the film goes on myspace all day long and sees how 12 year olds talk about emo all the time and said, "This is the in thing now, emo. We have to put this in the movie."

Fucking retarded! Storyline and acting wise, the franchise has gone downhill. Action scenes were cool, but too short. The fight scenes only seemed to have a few punches and then it was finished. Even the final battle just didnt do it for me. I left the theater feeling there was nothing epic about this movie or really anything to remember. I didnt hate the movie, but I certainly didnt love it in any fashion. Average to me.

Here's to hoping Pirates will be great along with Transformers!

The Spideymo look was one of the many scenes that got a huge LOL reaction from the crowd. I guess because it's trendy to pull your hair down over your face and wear mascara and tight clothes, they thought it'd be a good idea for Peter to adapt the look to be cool. It was just faggy and embarrassing.

OK, I saw it today. Overall, it's a 7.5/10 The should've kept Venom out of it entirely and only included the Symbiote storyline. He was rushed and stupid and his effects weren't all that great. Goblin 2.0 was great though. Franco was cool. Sandman was good, great effects, but the whole "uncle killer" plot device was unnecessary.

You just have to remember what kind of movie you're going to see....a comic movie, and don't set your expectations high and you should enjoy it.

Terrible movie.

And what the fuck was with the moronic opening credits recapping the first 2 films? And the fucking TV reporting style leading up to the final fight, completely distracting and added nothing positive to the film.

As always, the only worthwhile part of the movie was anytime JJJ was on screen.

funny how everyone reads these negative reviews but still gives them money to see it for themselves! It's breaking box office records left and right. You WILL be watching part 4 in about three years.

3 wasn't a bad movie. bloated..yes. desperately needed an editor that did his job. But you know if this thing was cut to about 2 hours it'd be one kick ass movie.

Venom was the problem. They should've kept the symbiote part until the very end. Have spidey almost kill Sandman or have Spidey be the one to kill Harry. Then he freaks out and tears off the symbiote and decide to stay Spiderman. Appologize to MJ and end the movie. Part 4 introduces Venom properly. He would have all of Peter's knowledge, like where he lives and who he is and where he works. Have him TORMENT peter. Harass the foreign neighbor landlord and his hot daughter. Give Peter hell at the newspaper. Hell, follow him to school and pick on him just like in High School. Frame him and have him hated by the public again. He'd go from the citywide hero of this film to a hunted down criminal in the next one. There's a FULL movie's plot in just Venom driving him apeshit. But Raimi hates Venom and gave him a punk sendoff. He thought this was the last one he'd do and was pressured in to it to sell toys.

I thought this movie was really good. Not as good as the first two, but miles above anything else that has come out in the past year or so. My brother pointed out something funny to me though. In the first movie, J. Jonah Jameson screams out "Where's Brock!?" during one scene. Then in Spiderman 3, Brock introduces himself as being just hired. This reminds me of the whole thing in Batman and Batman Forever where Harvey Dent was played by a black man in the first movie and a white man in the third. Craziness.

Alright, went to see it, here's my review.

All in all, I'd give this about a 6/10, it's noticably less disappointing than that filth XMen III, but I was a little disappointed in the depth of this one. Venom was weak, but the character of Eddie Brock was nailed perfectly by Topher Grace, so I'm willing to forgive Mr. Raimi on that one. Sandman was so hard to see as a villain, but it could be argued that that's also the case in many of the comics, so I had no problem with that. I think Kirsten Dunst is fucking horrible and haven't liked her since Spidey 1, no different here.

So, the good. Harry Osbourne was easily the best character in this one, I think the guy who plays him (forgot the name) and Topher Grace were the only ones who showed up ready to act every day. Some of his dialogue was corny, but overall, it was a good story and his 3-film arc is a solid one. Just like most of you have said, Parker was great except for the very poorly done symbiote arc in the middle of the story, which was unexplainably bad. That was my only real problem with this "depth," (aside from a feeling I also had in XMen 3, that the story was being rushed) Peter's transformation while occupied by the symbiote was overdone, it seems, the whole dancing deal with Gwen in the club--I mean, it wasn't awful, but it seemed very out of place in what has been a solid film trilogy.

The beginning and ending were better than any parts of the first two films, as far as I'm concerned. But the middle was so much weaker that it's hard to consider this a great film, or even one that matches the first two. It was worth my money, and I'll buy the DVD to complete the collection, but I wish (and I know this isn't possible) it could have been a longer movie to avoid some of the confusing aspects (Venom knows Sandman how?), the rushed feeling of the mixing storylines, and perhaps adding something good to the middle of the movie, storywise.

I really tried to stay optimistic, as I think I've sounded in past posts, but I'm a little disappointed, overall. Hype is really a dangerous thing...

Pretty much any and all movies that I've seen. I don't watch every movie that comes out, but I have seen some that were nominated for academy awards where I would rather have my eyes raked with a cheese grater than have to sit through them again (Pursuit of Happyness and Walk the Line come to mind). Casino Royale was my favorite movie of the past year. I also liked Rocky Balboa. Other than that, I'd rank SM3 as #3 on the list of movies that I've seen lately. This is just my .02 though.

Yeah, I can agree with that, not because of the brilliance of Spidey 3, but due to some of the shittiest movies (Ghost Rider) and major disappointments (Superman Returns, Man Of The Year, etc, etc.) coming out in the past yr.

The Departed, The Prestige, Casino Royale, Rocky Balboa, and Hollywoodland are pretty much the only films I've enjoyed, and I did really enjoy watching Spidey 3--as I said, I think the hype really killed it for me.

I can probably think of a few 15 minute sections of movies that were better than Spider-Man 3.

And what the fuck was with the moronic opening credits recapping the first 2 films?

That was poorly done. The opening credits for the last movie were actually pretty well done in how they showed the story of the first movie with paintings. It made the movie look a hell of a lot better than it was. I expected a similar kind of recap at the beginning of this one and was baffled. It was just a bunch of clips from mostly the first movie set to a really boring rendition of Elfman's theme. The hell were they thinking.

I saw this last night. Nothing good to say. Reinforced my hatred of the series. I now believe that Judge Dredd was a far superior film than I thought at the time, after having sat through this one.

Whoever wrote this, and whoever the hell read it and said "Okay, go with it!" both have a very happy drug dealer nearby.

Also, someone needs to explain to me who does particle accelerator physics experiments at night. In an open chamber. Filled with dirt. With birds seemingly often flying into the chamber.

yeah, I think the movie had like 20 millions storylines that were really poorly resolved.

-Peter and Mary Jane
-Mary Jane and her career
-Mary Jane and Harry
-Harry and Peter
-Harry and the Green Goblin II
-The Sandman/Flint
-Peter and the symbiote
-Peter and Eddie Brock
-Eddie Brock and Gwen Stacey
-Gwen Stacey and Peter
-Peter and his Aunt learning about his "uncle's actual killer"
-Flint/Sandman and Peter
-Venom
-Peter dancing

i think they were all really badly resolved. everything that ever could go wrong with a comic book movie went wrong with spider-man 3.

This is a few days old, but Harry at AICN finally posted his Spider-Man 3 review, and guess what.....he liked it.

While I totally disagree with his assesment of Toby McFuckstain, he does make a few good points. Maybe they should have just let Raimi make the movie he allegedly started out to make (with the Vulture and Sandman), and saved Venom for another time. Sure I have issues with the main cast, and most of their character portrayals, but if they had a less convoluted story to follow, some of that could have been overlooked. Sure, some things still would have gotten picked on by people (like me and most of you), but overall it could have been a fun movie.

Does that mean I have changed my mind? Nope, a few decent effects and several moments of action aside, Spider-Man3 still sucks. But I always thought it was the corporate bureaucracy communication breakdown that killed this series. Too many suits want to take charge of shit, and it shows.

Oh well. I'll still buy the DVD, the home-view makes a lot of movies better for me, and hopefully some of the special features will be more fun than seeing this in the theatre. And before you bother telling me "See, they still got your money, now whos teh stoopid1, blah etc w/ever", I'm an old fucking geezer. Plenty of assholes take my money everyday for shit I never see or stuff I didn't intend to have or ever need anyway. At least this will entertain me for a day or two.

I downloaded it since I am not sure when I'll be able to see it in theaters.

It kinda left me feeling I guess empty. It was good but not quite as good as Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 in my opinion. I agree that there were too many things going on at once and Sandman NEVER should have been in this film.

If they had kept just Harry and Venom in it then it would have been awesome.

I also agree that the whole Peter singing and walking down the street thing could have been left out, it was kinda emberassing.

Am I the only one who is wondering what hell is up with the makeup department? They downright sucked on the job they did on Harry's face. Could they not just figure out one scar size and shape and stick with it? The scar seemed to have a life of its own as it morphed throughout the movie. I was just laughing at the inconsistencies in the facial scarring, because at first it's subtle, then it's bold, then its gone, oh wait, it's back! It's almost as bad as the indecisiveness on the writer's part on when to end the movie.

Having gone in with zero expectations I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be.

It had all the trademarks of the last two: poor acting, bad writing, butchering of spider-man lore so this elements were of no surprise to me.

Things I liked:

Harry/Peter story arc. The second fight between Harry and Peter with no suits was great.
Eddie Brock's character and his character arc. I didn't think Topher could pull it off and I was impressed. I think it was a good adaptation from the comic arc. Rushed, but the integrity remained.
JJJ. He is the best acted and best written character in this trilogy. By far.
Venom's look. Some will disagree with me here, and maybe I was just so excited to see him onscreen, but I ate it up. Don't get me wrong, some of the face animation was bad and the character itself was reduced to an embarassing cameo, but watching Venom move was my personal geek thrill of the movie.
Watching Peter hit MJ. Best symbiote moment of the film. Too bad it had to follow a laughable middle act.

Other thoughts:

Sandman was useless in this movie. The sandstorm and Godzilla-Sandman did not work. It was a joke.
Uncle Ben/Sandman arc played out as dumb as it sounded.
I don't like Sam Raimi.
I had to pee really badly for the last 20 minutes of the film, but stayed.
Goblin/Spidey team up was dumb, as was butler's role.
The battle royale sucked. The TV report intercutting was something out of a bad high school film project.
Reboot the franchise. I will work for free.

Well Spider-Man 3 has made a little bit more in 10 days than Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2...

http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx ... 5&GT1=7701

I wonder if it will actually make more than it's two predacessors by the time it gets pulled from theaters and released on DVD...
