This film was a huge surprise, indeed. I never expected it to be so good, and in terms of story and acting, it's top-notch. The darker ambience really added to that, and Craig as James Blond... err... Bond... was fine too... although I'd have way preferred if Clive Owen got the role :P
However, I gotta agree with Topeka: maybe the plot is indeed a tad too twisty, too multifaceted and too difficult to follow (especially for that wide audience), but maybe that's just because we aren't really used to such a deep story when speaking of James Bond... Casino Royale went a way much more different than any Bond movie before, but not necessarily in a negative way... and I, for my part, like the change.
