With time running out, Jack must find a way out of his debt or else be doomed to eternal damnation and servitude in the afterlife. Indeed. Hopefully it is good as the first one, if not better. Only time will tell.

The first movie rocked. Great performances, visual fx. Didn't hurt that I always loved the ride at Disney World either. Definitely looking forward to this.

John Knoll was the VFX supervisor on the first film.

I still don't understand how he could get away from George to make it.

Here's a link for the trailer. I guess Disney had it up for about 20 minutes, then took it down. Not the best quality, but hey it's a trailer.

DP, I couldn't get your links to work, if this is the same trailer go ahead and delete. :heavymetal:

Yahoo now has the trailer up and it's a way better version of the old one:

I agree that the CG for Davey Jones does look pretty awesome. So does the squid that I guess attacks the Black Pearl? I too can't wait for this show and will definitely be catching it in theaters.

Damn... I can't believe I missed the second Trailer... it's more than just awesome... I love it, and Jack seems to be even cooler than in the first movie. :heavymetal:
The CG rocks, too... Davey Jones and his minions look even freakier than Barbossa and his Black Pearl... man, I just can't wait this movie to be in cinemas... I just loved the first one!

And, I just found something quite interesting... haven't seen it here before, so here goes the first shot from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (yes, III, three!):

rather weird, for the 2nd movie isn't even in theaters yet and we already get to see a first spoiler of the 3rd movie... :o

Actually, more movies should be doing this. I would give anything if X2 and X3 would have been filmed together with Bryan Singer as director. :|

The story picture books are out in book stores now. It ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger with
[spoil]Jack alone on the Black Pearl being drug under the sea by the Kraken octopus monster. But we all know
he survives since he's in part 3![/spoil]

Got to be completely honest, I didn't like the first one at all. I just couldn't get into it. It felt very flat to me. I watched the entire movie and at the end, I didn't feel anything towards it. I was just ready to get out of there. That being said, Moriarty at AICN has his review of the film up. He states that he was so-so on the first one but loves this one so maybe there is hope. I'll probably wait for the DVD though.

Just saw this last night. It was the most fun I've had at a movie all year.

Is it as good as the first one? Well, it doesn't have the same sense of adventure or excitement that the first one had. I would compare this film to the first one in the same way I'd compare ESB to ANH. I think the overall story and character direction was much stronger. The last act of this movie is near perfect also, with a great surprise at the end. The special effects were fantastic, Davey Jones being cool as hell.

If you liked the first one, definately see this. If you didn't like the first one, there's still some pretty kickass moments I'm sure you'd appreciate.

I checked out this one tonight. I liked it more than a lot of movies I've seen this year. Kind of left me feeling like it had no real ending, though. Just a set-up (allbeit surprising and attention getting set-up) for the next one. All in all, quite good. I liked it. I might go see it again when I'm not packed in with all the farting hippy kids and tough 13 year olds that show up on opening day. Really well done effects and action. Miss Swan needs to go to the buffet, though. She looks kind of scrawney for a sea wench.

The CG Davey Jones looked amazing. Conversely, the CG Kraken tentacles looked horrendous, like some low budget computer effects from a 90's television show. The action sequences went on for way too long, an annoyance in the first film and a huge problem with this one. It's like the filmmakers figured, "Well, we spent all this money on the sets and blowing this shit up, so we should show it for as long as possible in the film." Ugh. The first hour was just ridiculously awful, incoherent and dull. It was too long overall. The jokes were often overplayed and scenes lost their humour because of the prolonged length, like the fight between Norington, Will and Jack in the big-ass wheel. All in all though, it was decent. The Curse Of The Black Pearl was infinitely better.

But isn't that what the middle act of a trilogy is supposed to do? I never really felt like I wasn't watching a complete film in and of itself. And I agree, ET. If the film had one failing it was that the humor often fell flat. A lot of the jokes were just references to the first film.

Anyway... it looks like it overtook Revenge of the Sith's opening box office. Link.

I'm really looking forward to 'At World's End' becaue of Barbosa's return. I kept thinking throughout DMC, "Man, I miss Barbosa." I mean, Davey Jones was a cool villain and all, but there wasn't much of anything to his character. I was bored with him after his first few scenes.

I suppose it is, but it didn't seem like a logical transition to me. I guess it just surprised me that thats where they chose for it to be over, if that makes sense. Sudden surprise revelation and then BAM!, credits. I guess it's not really an issue, just something that bugged me, and maybe because I hadn't had a smoke in 3 hours and was practically foaming at the mouth I made a bigger deal out of it than it deserves.

Holy shit, Batman!

Dead Man's Chest out-beat Revenge Of The Sith's opening weekend numbers!

Revenge Of The Sith Opening Weekend Totals: $108,435,841

Dead Man's Chest Opening Weekend Totals: $132,028,000

I never thought this would be possible....

I think more impressive is beating Spider-Man's $114 million opening in 2002.

Huge fan of the first, mixed fan of the second...

I think there was too complicated a story, which made for a way overlong film. The first was long, but moved due to a simple action/adventure plot. This one tries to pull an empire, but none of its plot threads are interesting enough to carry the weight of the film. It was, in a sense, over-conceived - the filmmakers thought too hard about making a film that would deliver and not just focussing on making the film.

I enjoyed it to an extent, but I'll have to see it again before I make my final judgment.

Davy Jones was unbelieveable though. ILM did a good job for the most part, but I agree with ET that the Krakken tentacle/live action work was a case of poor compositing.

Superb Cliffhanger ending, I just loved it. The Score was just perfect in that scene too.

Brilliant.

But it was about 1/2 an hour too long, and I think someone said earlier they thought the fight scenes were just that "little" too long, and I'd have to agree they would've been better served being a bit more heavily edited. But still, comparing it with all the other movies that have come out, it's definatly my top one...though I still really liked M:i:3 it's [Pirates] definatly alot more fun than DaVinci Code or Superman.

Can't wait to see where they take us with the 3rd one, however...there's so many new character arcs in the second film, they've got quite a bit to wrap and explain, while hopefully not doing a complete "Matrix Revolutions" and screwing up the ending completely.

Be very interesting.

Apparently something went down after the end credits too, anyone got any information on what that was? I was at a packed free screening, so I didn't stay till the end....had to move my car so I didn't get towed haha....

I didn't stay after the credits, but I heard from a co-worker that it showed the island with the cannibals, and the dog they were chasing was on the throne as their king. (So he's still alive, for the time being, for all the animal activists out there.)

For anyone who didn't wait a whole of 10 minutes for the "secret ending" after credits, here is this very special spectalular and incredibly hilarious 10 seconds of exclusive "Where the name HOT DOG comes from"...
