What direction are they taking this franchise? Will this movie lead into Planet of the Apes? Will they remake the original to fit in with this series of films? Any word?

Great trailer btw

If it banks, most assuredly yes.

I can't, in a million years, imagine Fox providing a bridge to that dated '60s aesthetic.

They haven't really said if these movies form a trilogy or more than just three films. I'm hoping they continue showing what happened between this and the original, rather than literally remaking the 1968 film. This seems to be a stand-alone reboot / almost-prequel, without being strictly tied to the Heston film.

But I hope they don't actually remake PotA, but make this an alternate timeline, exploring many creative story possibilities.

I'm pretty sure this is a different timeline / straight reboot. I think we'll get more stories after War

Reviews are already rolling in:

Interesting that several reviewers are describing this as the epic finale to a trilogy. I recently learned that they have already begun development on a 4th Apes film in this series.

I finally saw this last night. Holy hair balls! It's really amazing, technically and emotionally.

I was really struck by how the story and action really take their time, rather than just throwing effects and explosions at us all the time.

And there is no way that this is the ending of a "trilogy." The final beat of the film definitely feels like there is room for a sequel(s) to show us how the surviving apes establish their new world.
