What's up with the word "Darkness" in titles lately? First Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, then Star Trek: Into Darkness and now this? Why do films lately have the word "Dark" or something similar?

It's the new "Rise of..."

On a related note, the upcoming sequel/prequel/spin-off of 300 has been re-titled, 300: Rise of an Empire (it was 300: Battle of Artemisia). How do you like that one, CoGro?

I'm glad you asked.

I'm starting to think it's an inside joke.

So when does The Rise of Darkness, and/or Darkness Rises come out? And, consequently, how can these not be 'Adult Film' titles?

:XD:

Really though, if he visits a 'dark world', and it makes sense to the story, do I mind the title? No, not so much.

It is a little trendy and repetitve these days though.

In a LTTP move, I recently caught on to the awesomeness of GOT. Since one of the show's directors is helming Thor 2, I except it to be kick ass. This trailer meet with my expectations. :heavymetal:

Description of the footage shown at Marvel's Comic-con panel:

[spoil]The footage begins in the middle of a battlefield. The Warriors Three are among those fighting. The rainbow bridge appears and Mjolnir comes through first. It hits one of the opponent soldiers and Thor is right behind it. He slams it against the Earth and soldiers go flying. Sif saves Thor from a spear at the last second. Over the hill a giant monster who looks like he's made of clay approaches. He's huge and angry. Nearly 20 feet. "I accept your surrender," Thor grins. The beast refuses and Thor smashes him to pieces with the hammer. "Anyone else?" Thor asks. The Marvel logo comes up and we're in London. Jane Foster is there and Thor arrives via the bridge. "I gave you my word I would return for you," he says. We see Jane in Asgard, exploring the wonder of it all. There's a brief, "Holy s--t" line from Kat Dennings as Thor and Jane vanish via the bridge. There's a brief, "Holy s--t" line from Kat Dennings as Thor and Jane vanish via the bridge. Thor goes to Loki. He's get in a prison cell with a big glass panel in front. "After all this time, you come before me, brother?" says Loki, "Why? To mock?" Thor says he needs Loki's help. We see a hand reach for a broken mask, I believe it's Malekith. "Your bravery will not relieve your pain," a voice (I think Eccleston) says. "Your family and your world will be extinguished." Loki sets off with Thor, Jane, Sif and the Warriors Three for a mission. Jane looks at a monitor and says something about the fabric of reality being torn apart. Sif tells Loki that if he betrays Thor, she'll kill him. Jane marches right up and slaps Loki in the face. "That was for New York!" she says. "I like her," Loki grins. There's a final shot of Thor on the ground, hurt, with Loki standing over him. He kicks Thor directly in the face. Thor reaches for his hammer, but Loki kicks his hand away.[/spoil]

A deviation from his comic book counterpart but yet still familiar as the character and fits the Alan Taylor Game of Thrones style.

I thought the posters for IM3 were very good minus the IMAX one. At least they were artwork and not just photographs of the actors pasted together with lens flares.

But I totally agree overall, movie posters have become a lost art, emphasis on art.

Description of the footage shown at D23 Expo:
source: IGN

[spoil]
However, a brand new sequence was shown as well – a scene from early in the film, shortly after Jane Foster arrives in Asgard. In the scene, Jane is being examined on the Asgardian version of a medical table and it becomes clear something is very wrong with her. Thor asks, “This is not of Earth. What is it? “ One of the women examining Jane tells him, “We do not know. But she’ll not survive the amount of energy surging through her.”
Jane tries to keep things light, watching one of the woman manipulate energy above her and asking if it’s a quantum field generator. When the woman gives her a fancy Asgardian term for what she’s doing, Jane asks, “Does this transfer energy from one place to another?” Told it does, she says, “It’s a quantum field generator.”

Odin enters the room and he is not happy to see Thor has brought Jane to Asgard, saying Thor defied him in doing so. Thor says she is ill and Odin yells, “She is mortal!”
Says Odin, “She does not belong here in Asgard any more than a goat belongs at a banquet table!” Jane is aghast, exclaiming, “Did he just…? Who do you think you are? “ He replies, “I am Odin, king of Asgard,” which quiets her down, as she simply says, “Well I am… not a goat.” Odin replies, “I know very well who you are, Jane Foster.” Jane is bemused, noting this means Thor talked to his dad about her.
Odin again tells Thor to bring her back to Earth, saying human doctors should help her. He signals for some of his men to take Jane away, but when they approach her, energy blasts forth from her body, knocking them back. Thor runs over to her and asks one of the medics what is happening. He’s told, “It’s defending itself.”[/spoil]

Thor: The Dark World featured on new Empire Magazine covers:

New stills from the magazine:

Interview tidbits from director Alan Taylor, producer Kyle Craig and Christopher Eccleston:

Quote:
"You know, we are killing Asgardians in this movie," says Taylor. "It turns out immortality isn't all that it was cracked up to be." Kyle explains that, "Asgard at the beginning of the first film was at a time of peace. Now our guys have been fighting for over a year, constantly. It's a time of war. When the Bifrost was broken at the end of the first film, Odin had to conjure a lot of dark energy and go through a lot of personal sacrifice to try and get his son back to Earth," Craig Kyle continued. "And it was a one-shot deal. If Thor didn't succeed, without the Tesseract he couldn't have got back again. And in our film, finally the Bifrost has been rebuilt, but during that time, when the cops were largely cut off from the rest of the universe, you had miscreants that came in from outside the Nine Realms, pillaging and destroying and causing havoc. So that's what our guys have been doing now - trying to put all these fires out across the Nine Realms."

Christopher Eccleston dishes on Malekith:

Quote:
Recalling his first day of filming for Thor: The Dark World as the Dark Elves leader, Malekith the Accursed, Christopher Eccleston says, “It was when the Ark crashes into Asgard. I come off the ship, blow up the throne and then stride through to have my confrontation with Odin,” he says. “Pretty good first day, destroying Asgard. That’s what it says in Malekith The Accursed’s diary: ‘Tuesday. Destroyed Asgard.”

As for Malekith's motive in the Marvel sequel, Eccleston says, “There is a kind of tragic quality to his quest. Because he’s lost his wife, he’s lost his children. He’s lost everything. And he returns for revenge. And the agent for his revenge is the Aether. If he gets hold of that, he is omnipotent.”

“you know, sliding up and down The Gherkin (referring to the London skyscraper), being flown here and there, scrabbling in mid-air, trying to get to each other’s throats,” says Eccleston. Furthermore, it's revealed that Malekith's race, the Dark Elves, were banished by Odin’s father 5,000 years earlier and "confined to a vast vessel known as the Ark." Director Alan Taylor describes them as “otherworldly and creepy, but also kind of beautiful - not just monsters…and not orcs!”
