Yes, you butt-head. ;)

I don't think it's ever been established how the OS crew came together, but Spock was serving on Enterprise under Pike for many years while Kirk, a hot shot in officer training, climbed the ranks until he was promoted to captain and got a ship of his own. The ship was the U.S.S. Enterprise. He was young when he got her, something like 30 or 31.

Pike was promoted to Fleet Captain and the Enterprise became available. In reality, Jeffrey Hunter/Pike got fired from the show because of ridiculous demands from his agent/real-life wife. Shatner was brought in, a new pilot was shot, and the rest is history.

The Teaser Trailer was very good even if the Youtube version was crappy. I think the date is 21/1 when they will release this in better quality. :)

Star Trek pushed back to May 2009

Quote:
Paramount is pushing back the release of "Star Trek" from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009.

Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio's release calendar, as well as DreamWorks' release calendar.

Studio insiders said "Star Trek" has the potential to gross more in May than in December.

You mean now that the writers' strike is over? :) What are the odds that the script hadn't even been completed yet?

Whatever the case, kind of embarrassing that a trailer that's less than a month old has the wrong release date.

Agreed. I can't say this surprises me. The leaked script spoilers were shit.

Abrams knows Trek about as well as he knows Superman.

Personally I'm getting pretty excited for this film. I've never been a Trek fan, but the series has always had a presence in my life. I remember getting a shitload of Trek books from my grandma when I was a child because as far as she knew, Star Wars and Star Trek were the same thing. Although the concept of Trek is is cool (searching for bold new worlds n' such) I've always thought that it was badly executed due to low budgets and tech speak (I'm not including the original series...a fun, campy series).

Watching TNG, if the awesomely designed Romulan Bird of Prey was on the show you would assume that there would be a cool space battle with the Enterprise. Naw, didn't happen because they worked things out in Picard's ready room before the conclusion of the episode. Fucking boring if you're an 8 year old.

I love Lost (still) and Mission:Impossible was a fun film, so J.J. Abrams is hitting all the bases for me. I want to believe that Star Trek can be cool.

I dunno jury is out for me on this.

The problem is, by the looks of those shots you've got JJ pandering to the whims of the "core" Trek Fanbase* and on the other hand, trying to come up with something interesting and unique for us non-trek fans (me) who couldn't give a shit about continuity and whatever whinging trek-based "lore" exists in the ether.

Look at picture 6 - that looks pretty sweet. Kinda like the Jump-ship from aliens or something. Looks realistic, kinda cool.

Then the very next picture you've got some 60's looking graphic display with giant knobs and decor. I mean, I don't see NASA building the interior of the ISS like that today let alone in the future.

That building or spaceship thing in picture 4 looks odd but then Uniforms have this Star Wars vague vibe to them that look practical and cool. Eh, I dunnos omething other than a cool Soundtrack to the Teaser Trailer needs to inspire me on this.

Secondly, I like the look of Uhura can't wait to see who else gets her uniform. :D

Thanks for the trailer links. This movie has caught my attention for multiple reasons, the first is Zachary Quinto. He is fantastic as Sylar and he looks like he'll do a good job in this movie. Secondly I'm a J. J. Abrams fan, and thirdly I read on wikipedia that Damon Lindelof is producing, so that's good to have him on board as a producer. So, I hate to say this as a SW fan, but I'm looking forward to this movie.

I still think this is going to epic in its awfulness, but two people have seen the trailer attached to Quantum of Solace and have reported it to Drew over at AICN. One claims to be a Paramount employee (Second Review)

A Couple Of Spies Weigh In On The Brand-New STAR TREK Trailer!

First
[spoil]
Hello, I have never written into you guys before but I was just too excited not to. I recently got a job on the lot at Paramount and was fortunate enough to get to see the trailer for JJ's Star Trek (i'm not special, it's playing on a loop in the Paramount theater).

Anyways, I can't say enough good things about it. I'll give you a quick rundown;

We start out with a muscle car tearing ass down a dirt road. Eventually it careens off a cliff, but not before the driver jets himself out - he's a young boy, couldn't be older than 11. Suddenly what I can only describe as a space-cop asks him, "what is your name sir?" The young boy replies, "James Tiberius Kirk."

Then Chris Pine takes over as we see him being angsty, driving down the road on a motorcycle. We hear some voice over from someone else that confirms his angst saying things like, "You've never really been happy have you?" and etc. Then we see him drive up what looks like a smelting factory - probably more of that ship construction we got in the earlier trailer.

Then we really kick into trailer mode as we get quick images of Spock as a kid. Spock all grown up. Leonard Nimoy. A vulcan council. Space cadets. And the crew alone with some quick, flashy space fighting.

There were two many images after that to describe but I can just tell you that it's extremely exciting. It's the most visually dynamic thing J.J.'s ever done. Lots of great shots, and cool camera moves, just in the trailer. There was even a little quip from Simon Pegg. And some sex thrown in for good measure. Eric Bana also joins the long list of great actors who are happy to chew scenery as a Star Trek villain.

The only thing I wanted more of is Karl Urban. He was the most inspired casting IMO and he only gets a quick nod in the trailer. As I said, all in all it's really cool and I think you guys are all gonna geek out big time when it's released. To finish, I'll just say, it feels like what we WANTED when the new Star Wars movies were released - something old and nostalgic getting pushed to greater, more dynamic storytelling by improved technology.

Hey there, long time Paramount employee here. They showed the new trailer for JJ Abrams Star Trek yesterday over at the Paramount theatre. It ran every 15 minutes and all employees were encouraged to go see it. Thought you'd like a little info.

The trailer starts by showing a mid-60's Corvette convertible tearing across the country side. After a few seconds we see a long shot that shows a policeman in hot pursuit. Another long shot shows the Vette screaming at full speed toward a steep cliff.

A slo-mo shot shows the driver leaping from the car at the last second and tumbling ass over teakettle toward the edge of the cliff itself. The driver is a young boy who looks about 13 or 14. He manages to grab a hold at the last second and hang on as a birds eye shot show the antique Vette fall away into an abyss.

We see the boy get up and dust himself off and the camera cuts away to show a troopers boot come down close-up. The black leather boot is obviously the policeman's who was chasing the car but it looks suspiciously "different." Just different enough to let the audience know this isn't a normal policeman. The shot then cuts to where we can see the policeman standing in front of the boy with his "bike" hovering in mid air a few feet beside him. He shouts at the boy, "Who are you?" or "What's your name?" and the boy shouts back defiantly, "James Tiberius Kirk!"

We're then treated to another long shot showing an older boy riding a hover bike similar to the one the policeman was shown riding a moment or two before thru the country side. We hear a voice over of an older man, presumable Kirk's father saying, "You never found yourself here, you never really fit in."

The voice continues as the bike rider pulls up and stops and looks off into the distance, "What you choose to do with you're life is up to you." We see the boy starring at a huge futuristic structure (Star Fleet headquarters?) as the voice over continues, "Maybe you were meant for something different, something bigger."

It then cuts to scene of an obvious Vulcan woman holding a baby. Again we hear a voice over of the woman saying, "You will always be a part of two worlds." as we cut to a toddler Spock walking in a Vulcan robe. The boy has the Beatles hair cut and pointed ears we associate with Vulcan's throughout Star Trek history.

We then see a bunch a quick shots of the crew walking around the bridge of some starship and we see a 20-something Spock angrily pointing at a 20-something Kirk and saying, "I will not be lectured by you!" and an angry Kirk getting in Spocks face saying, "Why don't you do something about it!?!" We then see an enraged Spock trying to stab Kirk with something pointed I couldn't quite make out. It was a quick shot and Kirk is shown using both hands to fend off Spock and hold the object away from his face.

Several quick cuts are shown of space ships firing at one another and people being thrown about the bridge of whatever ship they're suppose to be in. We see crew members running down bright white corridors as another voice over with a Scottish accent says, "I'm having fun!" We then see a close-up of what had to be a young(er) Dr. McCoy with about a weeks worth of black stubble on his face and his arms crossed in that oh so familiar Bones manner saying angrily, "Space isn't suppose to be fun, it's aliens and phasers and death!" We also see a woman in silhouette (Uhura?) pulling off her top and scenes of the crew running to man their battle stations on a bridge.

We then see a bunch of battle shots of space ships being hit by phaser fire and pieces being blown off of them while engine nacels explode before it all ends with the familar Star Fleet logo against a black background and we hear the familar Star Trek opening cords played over it and the release date appears underneath.

I can't vouch for every line of dialog I quoted as being 100% accurate, the cuts were very quick and I only sat through the trailer once but that's the basics. The colors of the corridors and the uniforms was very bright, everything had a "new" appearance. No doubt some of the shots were meant to represent Star Fleet academy training exercises and not real life combat scenes though again, it all went by pretty quick.

behold the ENTERPRISE (empireonline.com)

Image

[spoil]
Abrams came back out to introduce the second clip, saying: “So Kirk joins Starfleet and immediately he’s there he gets in trouble. They all get assigned to ships but Kirk does not. However Bones finds out that a loophole where, if you’re treating a patient, the doctor’s allowed to bring the patient on board. So he injects Kirk to give him symptoms and make him look sick. This is the sequence where he first gets brought on board the Enterprise.”

Bones and Kirk come out of a turbolift and Kirk does not look at all good. They stagger into the medical bay, Kirk complaining all the way.

Cut to: The bridge where Captain Pike asks the “Russian whizkid” at the helm what his name is. It’s Ensign Chekov. Cue a comedy sequence where Chekov attempts to enter an authorization code into the computer, announcing “nine, five, wictor, wictor, two” in a perfect Walther Koenig exaggerated Russian accent and being denied. Chekov goes on to address the ship over the comm., stating that anomaly has been detected in the neutral zone, a lightning storm in space. A distress signal from the Vulcan (“wulcan”) high command has caused the Enterprise to go and investigate.

Cut to: Sick bay, Kirk hears the transmission and panics. “lightning storm?” He gets up but he’s had a reaction to the injection and his hands have swollen up. “Good God, man!” says Bones in a spot-on DeForest Kelley. Despite this, Kirk runs from the sick bay pursued by the anxious doctor. “We’re flying into a trap!” “Dammit, Jim, stand still!”. The pair run through the corridors before locating Uhura, who is more preoccupied with the size of Kirk’s swollen hands. As he tries to explain, his toungue goes numb, leading to much slurring and misunderstanding. While it sounds daft here, the comedy in the scene is pulled off well, showing that JJ has nailed the sense of humour he promised to bring to the film.

also, there was a screening of 20 minutes of Trek with Abrams in attendance. Read about it here: empireonline.com apparently, Abrams is adding 'funny' to Trek: :what: :whateva:

Personally, I blame Paramount for this.

Berman and Braga did their share of damage, but who gave them the keys to the kingdom?

John Logan claimed to be a trekker. Do anyone see Nemesis? It was terrible. The script reads as if it was written by a five-year old.

And now they hand it over to Abrams who admits he knows nothing about Star Trek.

Small majority is an oxymoron.

It was an awful film. It was loathed by damn near all of the fanbase. Most film critics hated it. It was also a box office disaster.

And it is trekker. It used to be trekkie, but it is no longer. The trekkers, well, they tend to laugh at trekkies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trekkie

As a fan well versed in all of the franchise, I wouldn't mind being called a trekker. However, I would never want to be called a trekkie.

I didn't mind nemesis all that much either. The ship battles were quite entertaining, and as a lover of most things Romulan, it was good to finally get to go there...

I'll admit, I'm not a trekster. I've seen a few of the original episodes and a few of TNG. I've seen most of the movies between Khan and Generations. But the times I've seen Spock he seems very unemotional. What is it with the Sylar Spock here? I keep thinking he is going to be cutting into someones forehead any minute. Can someone more detailed in the universe tell me why Spock seems so different from the Nimoy Spock?

What you're seeing is a less disciplined Spock. A spock that was warned against joined starfleet because he already had trouble controlling his emotions, due to his half human nature.

Spock has always had trouble controlling them. They were always just below the surface, waiting for the next thing to allow them to froth over the top. Add a young kirk into the mix who's pushing the buttons to make him more pissed off....*pop*

As Cryostar pointed out that Spock after all is half human and half Vulcan. He always had a constant battle between his Vulcan and Human side and always had a struggling with his emotions. Grant as he got older he was able to keep a lot of them in check.

Regarding Nemesis, I honestly don't give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks about the film. As I said I enjoyed it and that is all that matters to me. To hell with what others think about it.

Nemesis was ok, it's ending was cool with the head on ship collision and Data getting blown to hell finally. I didn't care for the aliens, but Piccard's clone was kinda compelling.

This one looks questionable though. Good effects, but campy 90210 pretty boy 20 yr old star ship captains don't make a good Trek.

Ya after seeing the trailer in high def, I agree it definitely does not make me want to see it. Saw the Enterprise from the front and aft view, grant it looks similar but the design still sucks ass. I even read on another forum I go to that Rick Berman, the guy who did a lot of designs for Star Trek hates the design for the new Enterprise.
