The transformer in question is clearly knocking the flag off the bridge.

Anyway, there is very little dumbass-hick-American about Michael Bay. If only the word American was reserved for people who put so much into their work.

EntertainmentTonight footage - nothing new.

[flash width=431 height=272]http://www.etonline.com/media/flash/FlowPlayerDark224.swf?config=%7BconfigFileName%3A%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eetonline%2Ecom%2Fmedia%2Fvideo%2F2009%2F06%2F74870%2Findex%2Ephp%27%2Cembedded%3Atrue%7D[/flash]

Fallen footage begins around 1:10. The whole video is basically Shia and Megan interview. Fox looks like Courtney Cox or even a dark-haired Cameron Diaz.

Every blockbuster this summer so far has bombed (aside from Star Trek, which isn't killing the box office either). I'm wondering if it's because the movies have been terrible or the recession.

Transformers will be the next giant movie, so it'll be interesting to see how it does.

Those last two images are awesome: a new shot of Devastator and HI-RES Prime. deadlinehollywood.com has Transformers II tracking up to 175m over the 5-Day weekend.

This site has wallpapers, screenshots, and ringtones:

transformersLive has some interesting Wizard mag scans up featuring Megan Fox's :breasts: hanging out.

Which is amusing given that Wizard is a comicbook and action figure oriented magazine.

Michael Bay - "Film almost finished." IMAX version to have extra scenes:
Shootfortheedit

Quote:
Hey everyone,

In Japan today. After a month and half seven days a week most days going till midnight me and my crew have just about finished Transformers. I have never seen such a level of dedication from every crew member in a movie before.

Even today after the press in Japan and right before the premiere tonight, I have to sneak out to a digital house to approve the last few effect shots.

It has been a long hard road, but really fun one to travel. What you will notice that is strikingly different than Transformers 1, is the level of animation detail. The robot characters (42 in all), you really can feel empathy for them. What is also very different is the sheer scale of the movie. We have been very tight holding back much of the best imagery in commercials and trailers.

The way to see this movie is on IMAX. Never before has there been 4k rendered character animation shot on full IMAX 70 mm film. This is a first and the results are stunning. You will see Optimus Prime in a few shots where he is actually perfectly to scale on the IMAX 50 foot tall screens.

For IMAX, I created a slightly longer cut with more robot fighting. Four scenes were shot on IMAX cameras so the screen will fill the full IMAX screen for these scenes.

Haters beware.

Michael

Already got my midnight tickets but will definitely have to see this in IMAX too.

[spoil]
[align=left]• The Twins were lame - as in the "bust a cap in you ass" stereotype.
• Sideways never transforms - cut in half by Sideswipe in the first battle scene in car mode.
• Soundwave only has a few lines - never comes down to earth - never turns into a robot.
• There are three motorcycles - appear to be named collectively Arcee - not much screen time/lines.
Matrix of Leadership is used - a key that operates a device to draw energy from the sun.
• lame sexual inuendos like Wheelie humping Megan's leg.
[/align]
[/spoil]

A poster over at donmurphy.net boards seen the movie and drops these details.

Based on that guy's short review, it's going to be exactly as we all expected it to be: a bigger, better version of Transformers.

The first thing I said when I heard the Twins' dialog was that they were this movie's Jazz. I have no real expectations for them, though I did think the whole 'reading' bit was kind of cute.

The only truly disappointing tidbit from the review is Soundwave's minor role in the film - especially no robot mode. They could be saving him for the third, like apparently they've unleashed Starscream in this movie, but there was a lot of build up to see this guy and it looks like it won't be this go around. I do like his alt mode and his role in the story, I just wish he had more to do.

Wheelie calls Mikaela either a cow or a stupid bitch. The guy from Don Murphy's board was right when he said Wheelie's sort of reminiscent of BW Rattrap. I like the little guy.

It's alright. It'll probably grow on me. That said, is anyone else just a little perplexed as to why Cheap Trick of all bands was chosen to perform the "official" song for the film? I mean I love me some Cheap Trick and have even seen them live a few times (and will hopefully see them again this summer) but they aren't the first band that springs to mind when I think summer blockbuster soundtracks post-1989.

There's a new TV spot up on IGN. It features some new footage including a kick ass final shot of Optimus taking aim with his blaster and firing a shot at a fallen enemy. There's also an extended shot of Prime's fight with Megs.

"That's my eye you crazy bitch!"

Wheelie is awesome! Never thought I'd say that considering his G1 namesake. ;) He is very much like Beast Wars Rattrap but with fouler language.

Might be Tom Kenny doing the voice but I'm not sure.

Just read that Tony Todd is officially the voice of The Fallen. (Bigfanboy.com)

While the game graphics look pretty good I can already tell this game is gonna suck. The targeting interface stays in the middle of the screen and you have to move your character around to shoot at anything. In this day and age of consoles with 12+ button controllers that is just lazy. Make the targeting separate from the player movement.

Writers & Actors talk Transformers III with mentions of Unicron, Galvatron & Dinobots!

QUOTE: "I'd like to see some version of Galvatron," said Roberto Orci, who wrote the first two films with his partner Alex Kurtzman. "I would like to see Unicron, too, and really anything that ends in the word 'ron.' "

"Dinobots!" Orci added. "I think, eventually, the Dinobots are going to have to happen."

A poster over at TFW2005 boards has seen the film and is answering questions.

[spoil]
[align=left]

QUOTE:

• NO Barricade in movie
• No explanation why Megan Fox puts the white dress on and holds the flowers, just does it for no reason it would seem
• No explanation what the Twins reformat from the Ice Cream truck, they just do it in the hanger
• Bikes do NOT combine (you only see the rider ladies once and one bike is killed at end or badly shot)
• Optimus/Jetfire combination NOT permanent, one whole booster ripped off fighting with Megatron and the Fallen.
• Prime tears rest off at battles end

• Jolt appears out of nowhere 1/2 way into film on the runway (as does Ratchet) and you old see Jolt one other time from what I could see. Never a main shot or close up of him. His hands sizzle electricity like the SW Emperor. He must have less than 5 seconds screen time

• There are LOADS of constructicons, after Devastator has combined you still see Mixmater and Long Haul loads, plus others
• Bonecrusher from 1st movie appears in truck mode
• You do see Soundwaves head but he never transforms. Voice is Welkers G1 Megatron voice
• The "Blackout/Grindor" bot is never explained, just appears, slightly different head to Blackout though
• Sideways only seen for robot for split second then back to car, then Sideswipe cuts him in half longways

• FINALLY a shot of Optimus turning into the truck!
• Megatron is a triple changer, you see him as robot, tank and a jet. Jet looked like tank but with flat wings, hard to see

• Mixmaster is triple changer, robot, truck and weapons platform. Uses platform mode twice at the end
• Shot of the protoforms arriving, some reused footage from first film. Some first film footage used with more prototforms added

Best Lines:

• The Twins "That hurt" - "It's an ass kicking, it's supposed to"
• The Twins "Maybe he's just a pussy!"
• The Twins when they see Devastator "Look at that mother f*BANG*"

• Jetfire (when hanger doors won't open) "Oh bollocks!"
• Jetfire "I'm too old for this crap!"

The good:

• SUPERB Special effects, truely amazing
• The music score is great again, some lovely chior pieces
• Optimus is solid, really kicks ass - As does Bumblebee when he tries!
• Action, action, action!
• Some lovely moments between Starscream and Megatron

The bad:

• Sam's mum getting stoned - Really annoying pointless scene
• Alice - Pointless character and waste of screentime

• And I am very, very, VERY sorry to say - Devastator.
Totally pointless him being in the film. He doesn't get involved in the final battle and Simmons bringing him down is very WTF, by far Devastator biggest let down in movie

• When Sam dies and goes to Autobot heaven

Stuff different from trailers

• Bumblebee never says "what is your purpose Sam" like in the Showest footage - I might be wrong about this one
• Some of the Showest sections are different takes in final film
• The military guy saying "Looks exactly like a truck" not in movie

[/align][/spoil]

I'm finding a lot of those points disappointing. Oh, and apparently Devastator has two wrecking balls between his legs making him look like he's got robotic testicles.

Michael Bay's sense of humor is right up there with Lucas's. :vsuicide:

The twins are being described as ghetto Jar-Jars. There is already beginnings of online rage towards the film.

Due in part to the minimial presence of "iconic" characters (i.e. Soundwave, Ironhide, and Arcee) in favor of the newer ones. In addition to the omission of fan-favorites from the first (Barricade and Blackout who I guess is now Grindor). The use of recycled footage from the first movie. Then there is Devastator testicles.

After Wolverine Origins and Terminator Salvation (and I guess even Star Trek which kind of what went away fast wtf) I'm hoping for the best. Because after this it looks we are in for a bit of a dry spell.

It's important to note that the rage is coming from people who haven't seen the film and they're responding to people who are saying "It was great, I had a lot of fun but (a), (b), and (c) were wack."

Isn't that exactly what TF1 was? 2 years ago we all came back from the flick saying "giant fucking robots, awesome !2!!21112!!!! But (a), (b), and (c) were kind of weak." Christ, do you remember how stupid the whole subplot with the Decepticon signal was? Bumblebee peed on a guy. But the bottom line is that the flick was a hell of a lot of fun. It was entertaining as hell and that's all I expect from TF2, with a bit more story/sci-fi elements.

I'm more disappointed at lack of attention to Soundwave than I am the immature jokes. We were bitching about the same thing with Starscream in TF1. It's a two hour movie - you can only put in so much while making the film coherent.

My 2 cents.

Yeah I've gotta agree. Unlike Terminator: Salvation where we had great movies early on (Terminator AND T2) and then shit later, Transformers was what it was. I enjoyed it because I can ignore pissing oil and jive talking robots. Because the action and special effects were great. And that is what I want from a Transformers movie. If Trans2 gives me that, I'm happy. I wasn't spoiled by the first one to expect something more.

The part that gets me the most is how some hardcore Transformers fans are actually angry at Michael Bay for 'ruining' the Transformers mythos and franchise. Did I miss something? I am a child of the 80s. I've probably seen every single episode from the original series. I owned dozens of G1 toys. Transformers was the coolest thing to ever happen to my life until the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came around. That all being said, it's about the LEAST deep popular cartoon to have ever been created. The action from every single show was recycled animation. They literally painted on top of other characters, made new names for them and then packaged and sold the toy the following week.

I'm sorry I didn't read the follow up Marvel comic series, but if you ask me the Transformers live action movie had more STORY/MYTHOLOGY than anything seen in that show. I don't understand where all these expectations came from in the first place. Optimus Prime was a memorable character with an awesome voice actor, yes. A bunch of characters (Starscream, Megs, Soundwave, Bumblebee) had cool names and interesting voices and fun character traits. I never thought in a million years it could ever have translated in an enjoyable and believable way to live action. When I first heard there was a movie coming out, I laughed. I thought it would be a complete joke. Even with Spielberg involved I could not see how it would work - there was never enough substance to make a movie, let alone start a franchise. THAT'S why TF1 is a huge success in my book: It stretched out a concept, which was thin on story and made it entertaining for the silver screen with a serviceable human element and kickass robot action.

Here's some awesome concept art for Rampage and (finally) the CG render for Sideways:
source: TFG2.com

ImageImage

I say finally for the Sideways pic because this same shot was one of the first pieces of art to be leaked so I've looking forward to seeing this in hi-res ever since. Rampage is in "jack-hammer" mode which is a featured third mode for the deluxe toy.

It's never been officially stated but I still believe Sideways was originally meant to be a reformatted Barricade. I don't see how the similarities could have been a coincidence. But it's probably a good thing he didn't turn out to be Barricade since Sideway's only robot mode appearance in the film apparently is the shot in the trailers where he jumps through the building. I really like the design though.

Amazon has samples up for the ROTF Score.

Here's the Wheelie clip again but in HD (720p). Megaupload link

Another new TV Spot (#14) which features the Kitchen bots:

[flash width=425 height=344]http://www.youtube.com/v/PNaCnakGZN0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1[/flash]

[s]And in Voice Actor news, TF2 Movie Blog is reporting that Susan Blu is Arcee and Jason Griffith is Sideswipe. Susan Blu was the original voice for Arcee in G1 and also Animated. She's also been very involved in the TF series' over the years working as the voice cast director for Beast Wars, Beast Machines and Animated.[/s]

EDIT: Turned out to be false. Those are not the voice actors for Arcee and Sideswipe.

Not enough of a sample there to get a vibe for the score. It all sounds generic.

For anyone that has the Blu-Ray of the first movie, the extra BD-Live content is now available. I don't have the BD so I can't check this out myself, I'm sure someone will put it online.

New ROTF clips include:

1: "We're gonna die" - Sam, Mikela and Leo are captured by Grindor and taken to a warehouse and Starscream slices their car in half.
2: "Shanghai" - Demolisher vs. NEST
3: "Adobe Hut" - Scene where Sam and Mikela are hiding from Starscream and the other Cons in Egypt. (Same clip from MTV awards)

Deleted scenes from TF1:

Figs Death
Maggie and Glen Intro

Behind the scenes clips:

from the set - day 1 - day 1 shooting in Bethlehem (shown on walmart website)
from the set - day in shade - shia and megan (shown on walmart website)
filming on pentagon - casts and crews filming in pentagon
music and mayhem - ILM making of TF (shown on walmart website)
metal in motion - 3-d modeling test.
stunts 101 - stunts stunts stunts

Thanks for the tip about the BD-live update. I checked the new stuff out and the list you posted is spot on. "We're gonna die" is pretty cool. The helicopter sticks this claw into the roof of their car, flies them away and then drops them through a building where their car gets sliced by a giant saw blade. "Shanghai" is just some running and soldiering, only a couple Transformer shots near the end. I think the most interesting videos were the ILM shot breakdowns and animation tests.

Someone explain to me wtf was going on in that clip.

Also, why is everything from the humans point of view?

a) It's a scene at the beginning of the movie where NEST (humans and Autobot alliance) is hunting a decepticon in Shanghai
b) Did you see Transformers 1? A lot of the action (if not all of it) was from the humans point of view

1) Ah ok thanks. I was mostly trying to figure out the mechanical collage that woke up and started blowing things up.

2) Yup I saw the first Trasnformers, liked it too. I guess I was hoping for less of that human perspective and more of the robots POV on things this time around. Like instead of showing a bunch of people barely inter/acting with a special effects sequence, maybe focusing on the mechanical beastie laying in wait while the bugs approach it.

I guess a little Michael Bay/first Transformers goes a very long way for me and this appears to be a complete rehash- only with more robots. But more importantly more wasteful scenes of human beings acting like they're trying to act like something is there to act with against the Guitar Hero® soundtrack. =/

From the BD Live content the "We Are Gon' Die" video with sound.

[flash width=450 height=282]http://www.traileraddict.com/emd/11735[/flash]

Next week the movie arrives so one thing to keep in mind is if you have been following this thread's content you know pretty much every detail of the movie. The script wasn't leaked early however two sites made up for it in a big way: Transformers Live's early Call Sheets and TF08's toy leaks. Michael Bay also has actually realeased a ton of footage in terms of trailer, commericals, and the lengthy ShoWest footage.

Since all we have to look forward to now is GI Joe, I'm going to miss this thread.

By if you picked up any of the new toys don't forget the Collecting forum's Transformers thread.

I hope the upcoming artbook has all this same art and renders. Stuff's really cool.

Michael Bay had this to say regarding him quitting Transformers (Link):

Quote:
Hah, love press how they spin. Never said it - just wanted a vacation is more to the point. And no I don't read the good or the bad reviews.

We do know there's quite a bit more robot on robot only scenes (and not just action, but dialog/story scenes). It's a more 'sci-fi' installment from the sounds of it. I'm actually more excited to see Starscream/Megs interaction than a lot of the fighting scenes - I already know those will be awesome.

I listened to the score and it's pretty bland. Not as good as TF1. I think there's going to be a lot of filler music from the first movie, or there's just a lot of stuff not on this release. Not that anyone here would ever pay for such a thing  but this release is essentially filler music behind dialog. There's not one thing that stands out except a couple seconds in the Forrest Battle that references Optimus' intro from TF1.

Also, Bay has decided to leave Transformers. He will not be involved in any sequels according to http://movies.ign.com/articles/996/996050p1.html

I know he's been the type to flip flop and keep his intentions and plans guarded, but I think he's serious this time. If so, I think it's a huge loss that the series won't recover from. Assuming TF2 is any good - and I'm going to wager that having enjoyed the first film, I'm going to dig the second - I don't think there's a director in Hollywood that can match the pace and tone of the movies Bay's made. He definitely has a style and it's not a very easy thing to replicate.

I say enjoy the shit out of this movie, because we're probably not going to see something like it for a long time.

Head over to michaelbay.com for a bunch more tv spots too. Some notable shots include Sideswipe splitting Sideways in half, devastator transforming (looks awesome), a bunch of action shots and some bits involving Sam and his parents. The decepticon logo on the side of the cement truck was kick ass. The action looks absolutely incredible.

All looks good and I'm excited as ever. Bring it on :heavymetal:
