That would be a good idea if Rami didn't get the tone and style of Spider-man right on.
Umm, yeah, no he didn't. I absolutely hate those movies, from beginning to end. Toby M. has got to be the second least palatable comic-book movie-casting decision of all time. Hated the story line altogether, to me it never felt legitimate to itself let alone appropriate for the character. I grew up a Spidey fan, and I was so letdown by that trilogy that I thought comic-movies could never be made right afterward.
But to each their own, as the kids say! I'm not trying to start a fight, Cogro is calculated enough of a poster for me to believe he has a probable and valid reason for feeling the way he does. I think I just might really hate Toby McGuire so much I never gave it a chance. He just comes off as, I dunno, missing a chromosome or something.
That said, I didn't really loathe the First (new) Spiderman movie as much as everyone else seems to. The "Ultimate Comics" origin rehash is kind of a dumbass move, considering it came as such a departure for the casual fan. I didn't mind Gwen Stacy though, not nearly as much as I hated Mary Jane in the Rami flicks.
And while "I didn't hate it" isn't a resounding stamp of approval, I'm kind of interested to see this second installment. If anything just to see where it goes from here. The entire Spiderman film legacy makes me wish there was someone at Disney ready and willing to just write the check and bring Peter Parker to the Marvel Movie Universe and recast him altogether.
A third recast would be a disaster you say? Pfft, in comics each artist draws a character somewhat differently. Comic-book fans ought not to be phased by this. I don't think multiple recasts have hurt The Hulk for instance. Not as much as the terrible Hulk movies have, anyways.
