Isn't Cameron busy with Smurfs 2 & 3 in stunning 4D Interdimensional Laser Projection?

I recall that not too long ago (maybe right after Avatar was released), it leaked that Cameron had quietly purchased the rights to the novel The Last Train from Hiroshma which was a really detailed look at the few Japanses who managed to survive BOTH atomic bomb drops, as they fled Hiroshima to the perceived safety of neighboring Nagasaki. The author, Charles Pellegrino, served as Cameron's personal scientific consultant during the production of Titanic.

There were rumors at the time that the director might have been buying the rights to eventually tackle that as his next film project. Imagine a 3D Cameron film depicting the Atomic bomb drops and destruction. Would be one helluva ride.

Yeah, I'd describe watching the slaughter of tens of thousands depicted in digital 3D as "one helluva ride."

Too soon?

I’ve had this guy for 30+ years and always referred to him as ‘the shogun warrior’ but never knew why. I guess we got the name from the packaging because I never saw this cartoon. The toys just appeared at the Target store near where I grew up in Plano, Texas about 1979. When I carried that toy around, I was always asked the same question, ‘what the hell is that?’ looking back on it now, its kinda funny because it was not like any other toy I’d seen or had.

Colorful, tall and broad but steady on small roller skate-like wheels. Also, equipped with missiles that actually shot a hard payload for a distance. Each of those clips up and down the legs and on the shoulders held sleek missiles that shot from a launcher connected to the arm that is now the missing forearm. I got one missile left, but no launcher.

Mine is also missing the brain that would come out like a small ship from the top of the head and the 2 swords held near the beltline. This toy got a lot of playing; me, my bro, and my 3 boys. My little one was dragging it around just a few days ago. It was a short walk to his toy box to take this pic.

yeah, this thing was known as Shogun Warrior in the States. don't think it was very popular though. not enough to warrant a movie before Voltron

Just to clarify, the 'Shogun Warrior' series of toys featured several different characters. Yes, your's is one of them and seeing it is dope as fuck btw, thanks for posting. I have two of them but mine are different. The Mazinger one and the Godzilla one are the only two I recognize from other sources, as the ones I own I've never seen in another format such as TV or comics. Great toy series though, too bad the only modern example is the 'Super Shogun' stormtrooper they either released/announced (I dont recall exactly which) recently. The Stormtrooper's shape doesn't really highlight the cool factor those gigantic plastic toys are capable of acheiving. Nice idea though, I hope they make more.

As far as the Mazinger film is concerned, I will hope for the best, and go see it when it comes out. I just hope it isn't such a tree-hugging rant as Avatar. I like my Sci-Fi a touch less preachy, and upon re-watching Avatar is juuuust a tad on the wrong side of that for me. It's not that I don't agree with the hippy fuck, but it's so overt it kind of makes me cringe a little. I think it's the rythmic group dancing that does it. I fucking hate scenes like that. Ruined the Matrix for me too, although I'm not gonna blame Cameron for that one.

And a big budget A-Bomb movie from Cameron would be great. I really enjoy seeing thermo-nuclear detonations. I do not enjoy watching live people beeing incinerated. But my guess is they are just going to pretend to do it and not actually kill anyone while making the film, so I've got my fingers crossed on that one.
