Is anyone else here a little thrown off by the fact that Fox has now positioned the film to be a fundamental game changer for the industry and audience through its marketing? I mean to me that's like saying they have nothing else to sell this film on but for its status as an event.

You know it's going to be a dud when they're touting how much money they dumped into it and the fact that it's in [fade]THREE-DEEEEEEEE![/fade]

I don't know for sure that this will suck ass, but the more I see of it gets me depressed. It's like the final nail in the coffin where all the formerly great filmmakers of this generation have been stuffed into. First, we lost Lucas. Then Burton. Then Zemeckis. Spielberg. Now Cameron. Movies will surely never be the same. They'll suck. I pity this new generation.

Well, I knew it was going to suck as soon as I heard Cameron utter Prequel Lucas' words along the lines of "I've had the story in my head for awhile, I've just been waiting for the technology to catch up." :what:

I honestly don't think it's in Cameron to make an utterly bad or completely misguided movie, underwhelming maybe but bad never. I've got my expectations in check but I'd love to be proven wrong on this one. It's just that the build up to release has felt like one disappointment after another.

It was screened for the press and is apparently amazing. Compared to Dune more than Dances with Wolves.

[spoil]Sam Worthington's human character is apparently killed but his spirit leaves his body and he wakes up in his Avatar body alive[/spoil]

ABOVE: Ending revealed below. Warning, it's the VERY end!

It takes a hell of a lot of nerve for a man to stand up at the Oscarcast and proclaim himself King of the World. James Cameron just got re-elected.

Fuck. Well I've got my tickets for next week's midnight screening in IMAX. I really hope Cameron can still blow me away. It'll be interesting to see how this film plays to the masses; tickets are still plentiful for all showtimes at the Arclight. First weekends for event films usually sell out weeks beforehand at that theater.
