I didn't realize it was Earth Day. Not until after I spent my last couple of bucks on gas as it hit $3.75 a gallon. And even then, I didn't really notice the date. I found out about it online, and linked to one of many sites I check a lot was this 20 minute clip. I recomend watching it, the presentation really hit home with me. And then it suddenly dawned upon my high interest saddled, preoccupied with dodging bill collectors, underused as of late (other than scrambling for sollutions to problems I didn't know I had before) mind, that since I quit smoking weed (a little over 1 yr ago), I haven't given a second thought to the running in place, dead-end cycle of consumerist hell I have since been living. But this kind of sums up what I had been bitching about for years.

Only I was too stoned for people to take me seriously. This storyofstuff.com kind of sums it all up, without all the "dude"s and "um"s the formerly chiefed out me would have put in it.

Oh, and tomorrow is Fuck the Earth Day. However after watching the first link, I guess that's just about any day anymore. So have a happy Earth Day! Go hug a tree. And a happy Fuck the Earth Day. Go hug your boss.

And the day after that is "Fuck the Earth and Yourself too" day. Go hug your momma, because it's all downhill from here.

She plays a bit too much into the tree-hugger stereotype for my taste. She has experience in the matter, admittedly moreso than my own beer-and-cheetos-filtered perspective, but knowledge has never stopped one from being biased. I take issue with her introductory point: It is not the job of the government to take care of us all. It's job is to maintain an atmosphere where we can take care of ourselves, if so willing. As far as government and business having a close relationship, absolutely. Economics 101: production, distribution and trade needs to be managed on a super scale. People seem to forget what corporations are: a managed chain of individual people who make their living, not an abstract monstrosity that feeds off the will of the underprivileged. I'm not saying there is no layer of responsibility in all of this. But it is impossible in our culture to mandate that responsibility on a broad scale.

It is highly unlikely that our society will collectively 'wake up' at some point and quit consuming goods. Rather than fight the losing battle, resources should be directed toward sustainability; the evolution of technology and production. There is a place for people who dedicate their life to saving the whales; more power to them and I hope they're successful. But to limit growth, to not open our resources to development, is a step backward in my opinion.

So fuck the Earth, but I still want to see polar bears fifty years from now.

I didn't know it was Earth Day until I went to do a Google search and was met with this:

A sign of the times I guess.

No, it's not the corporation itself that people are angry with and hate because the majority of the corporation is made of working stiffs drowning in a pile of bills and credit debt just like everyone else. However, there is indeed an abstract monstrosity that feeds off the will of the underprivileged inside of the corp. and it is called the board of directors. I think people are so fucked in the asses right now they can't remember how shit got like this, it's a blur. I even forgot about the corporate corruption of the first few years of the millennium, and I lost my more of my retirement to that fucking bloated wretch of a human puss boil dennis Kozlowski. But let's not forget the countless lives that were severely damaged by their greed and pompous attitudes of entitlement. Many people lost far more than I did, and have far less time to make it back.

I didn't loose (or have actually) any retirement to Dennis K's big spending, but they fucked my commisions for it, that's for sure. That was 4 jobs ago, however. Sorry to hear it Stan.
