I recorded a movie off of starz last night through my TV tuner and when I tried to play it in windows media player it said it couldn't burn, rip, transfer etc. etc. because of some copyright permission or something. Even sure fire VLC player didn't play it. I have recorded off of other channels without any problem and copied burned and everything else with it. Anyone know what is up and a way around this?

Edit**** Upon further review this seems to be an issue with MS media center, however, I don't know if other brands of media center software have the same issues.

What software are people using with great results

Welcome to Windows Vista!

As crazy as it may sound, I still actually use a VCR for taping shows. It has the same functions as a DVR such as Fast Forward (mine even has a commercial skip button), record at a preset time, playback whenever I want it, etc. I can even take it to a friends house if I reallly want to (what a f'ing novel idea these days). Plus I don't have to pay the monthly DVR box fee of $7. It is old school, but it works.

You never run into trouble with it?

I think HBO sucks balls for doing this shit. I pay for the service, if I want to record it in my office and then go watch it on another PC on the network or burn it then watch it on my bg screen I should be able to. I just can't believe there is no way around this crap yet. The only thing I found that might work or claims to work is a video stabilizer. it supposedly Removes all forms of Macrovision and CGMS/A copy protection systems. I just wonder how bad the picture quality suffers if it does work.

Does anyone know about cable descramblers? maybe that would work. I already pay for the channel so I wouldn't be stealing anything. I am more than willing to pay for their service, I just don't want to be limited from doing perfectly legal things with it.
