I don't know what it is like in America, but this whole disaster is a major embarrasment for the American Government - especially Bush.

Personally, I think it is more of an embarrassment for the people of New Orleans. These people are acting like they've gone weeks without food, never had any morals or education, and are surrounded by rising lakes of hot lava.

The problem is that what was keeping the city afloat was sinking it and apparently not much was done to change that. Hurricane or no hurricane, New Orleans will be gone in a hundred years or less.

This is kind of a good article and its original publishing date is slightly ironic.

More fun.

Not to mention the Louisianna state government and those who run the city of New Orleans, all of whom have for years repeatedly turned down proposals to get prepared for the inevitable big ass hurricane.

I'm suprised I haven't heard someone give somebody a great big "TOLD YA SO!"

Oddly, when I read the quotes of West's comments online, there was no mention of him sounding like a stammering incoherent prick. Some people just shouldn't improvise.

Krispies, what are you talking about? Kanye truly won me over with such lines as:

"Anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help with with the setup the way America is set up to help, the um, uh, the poor, the the black people, the uh less well off as slow as possible."

:what:

Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help."

The actor added, "You know, make a few jokes, throw out a few lines from some of my favorite film roles, sign some autographs, the usual..."

Regardless of who you think gets the blame, residents or officials, this entire incident highlights to me how our co-dependant 'society' and modern economic motivators leave individuals ill-prepared to actually take care of themselves. Self reliance is bad for business, but better for living.

I wonder when thier going to begin telling these people that all thier houses and buildings are going to be condemned and knocked down. Thats when the fireworks will really begin.

Also, I don't know if all the racial tension is unjustified. I'm not agreeing with either side of that debate just yet, but a few examples like this have made me wonder.

And btw Sean Penn should go back to camera whipping photographers and stfu. Celebrity opinions are about as helpful as his overloaded leaky boat.

New Orleans under water
Much of New Orleans was flooded after Hurricane Katrina broke levees that protect the low-lying city. Click on the satellite image, taken August 31, 2005, to see sections of the city in closer detail. Water appears green in the photograph; dry areas are brown.

that video is a damn shame this many days into all this. blows me out the gvt has dropped the ball. all 3: local, state and fed seem to be not getting the job done. it's un-american to do such a bad fucking job during a crisis. yes, the population has not always cooperated, but you got to overcome that. hopefully this piss poor effort will give a kick in the ass to future disaster preparations. i can only hope they got a different plan in the event we are attacked again. but after watching this all unfold i'm not too sure.

Oscar-winning Hollywood actor Sean Penn, who has been assisting rescue efforts in New Orleans, said the US government did not "seem to be inclined to help".
"We were pulling drowning people out of the water, it's the ultimate distress and human suffering ... dead bodies," he told GMTV.

Stupid ass. i'll be watching for some vids or pics of his life saving heroics cause i'm skeptical that he pulled one dying human from the water.

That clip of the guy telling Cheney to fuck off is priceless. Nothing like telling a politician to go fuck himself on national television. Beautiful. :heavymetal:

And by the way, Fox news has of course edited out the choice words of the "heckler."
