I've noticed there's an international audiance here and i was wondering why many of your countries hate Americans? Is it purely out of jealousy? Spite? What did we ever do to you besides feed you, protect your borders, give you a reason to have hopes and dreams in this world? Or is it simply our overly liberal media here that paints the picture that no one likes us? I've been to Paris and to the Bahamas and while most parisians were dicks, everyone was really friendly on the islands. Or was that just because i was throwing money at them and drunk most of the time? Seriously, I'd like to know everyone's opinion.

What the fuck ? I get all the major US networks and I can't ever have seen your media being 'liberal'. Bat shit insane? yes.

I don't hate the US, I just find the governments attempts at being subtle are horribly badly planned. If you were upfront about it, I would respect you more.

Many people around the world don't distinguish between an individual citizen and their leaders. Especially in countries that elect their officials. This happens with just about every nationality.

Many countries don't like the current U.S leadership, so they dont like americans.

but what's wrong with our leadership? Because Bush is cocky? He's a southern man, which in the US, men from the south are usually up-front, direct, take no crap people. We're polite but aggressive at the same time. "I'm sorry for kicking your ass" type of thing. And he's not a dumbass as some of you think. He has degrees in business from both Harvard and Yale. He was a successful Governor as well, which in any other country is like being a president.

We do everything in our power to help under-developed nations. Many nations around the world don't have the military strength to defend themselve from attack. Countries like S. Korea, and Taiwan. Much of Africa and S. America get aide from the US. We feed a HUGE portion of the world. You should see some of the crops over here. We are truely blessed. Why do you think most of us are fat? It's not because we're lazy, it's because we're literally overflowing with food here.

The thing about the Iraq war was that we were severly PISSED off after 911. We would've kicked Russia and China's collective ass if we found out they did it. The problem was that no real "COUNTRY" did do it. Just a group of terrorists "Sponsored" by countries.

We had a blood lust and we had to kick somebodies ass, Afghanistan wasn't good enough. Rummsfeld even said publically it didn't have good enough targets for us. Iraq was close by though...

There's not really any dislike of Canada that i'm aware of other than some Fox news editorials. (FYI. FoxNews has not been allowed to broadcast in Canada.)

Oh we are letting them in, just they are going to have to run a message saying that the news is their opinion, not the truth. Blasting a hole in their slogan.

The following "views" are propaganda, and, honestly, darkly funny...

It's because your Government keeps invading other countries and raping them for natural resources.
It's a nasty habit the rest of the world doesn't agree with.

I don't hate Americans, Americans are just people like anyone trying to live their lives in relative obscurity. But they're part of a system that is, at the moment, trying to kick start colonial imperialism under another name. I don't jive with that shit or anyone who digs it, American or otherwise.

Don't we have a reason to be arrogant or cocky? We're the greatest nation to ever grace this planet. Name one that's all around better? Name it?!! That's not to say we're rubbing it in your face, it's just stating a fact. Be proud of who you are. I'm not saying your country sucks, i'm saying my country's great and i'm proud of it and i don't get the backlash people have for us.

And don't get started on Canada's health care system, yeah, they have cheaper drugs than we do, but they also have about 3 times the wait in an emergency room. How do you think they pay for cheaper drugs...they're TAXED out the ass for them.

hey, i'm not saying we're perfect, look at my crap, it's golden and smells like cotton candy and tastes like pussy. We have the attitude that we can do anything because we CAN do anything. And so can you and your country. the difference is we are left the hell alone by our own government. We don't even have to join the military, it's completely voluntary. And only the middle class and rich pay taxes here. The poor get everything back at the end of the year plus what we call an un-earned income tax credit which could be thousands of dollars. Hell, the goverment will pay us to sit on our asses if we're too sorry to get a job and can give some kind of reasonable excuse like my back hurts. It's the land of milk and honey here for the MAJORITY of the people and i just don't get you people. Come on over sometime and see for yourself. You'd change your mind about us quick.

Free elections cannot take place in a war zone. And with the way those rebels are killing off the police force the Coalition are trying to foster, what were the chances the American-backed President of Iraq was going to deny any help he could get in contolling his country? If the Easter Bunny turned up and offered to give out chocolate eggs in an effort to stop the war....the President of Iraq would accept. Seriously dude, use your fucking head.

Go back and read my post. I'm not bashing you (although you're doing your best to invite it) or your country.

I think people like you need to believe that people like me don't you and your country to give yourself a bit of purpose or justification or peace of mind or something.

Edit: Why do you think American style democracy is the only form of Government that a country should have? Why haven't America toppled every dictatorship or theocractic/communist Government in the world to date? The American Government doesn't give 2 dicks about every second corrupt African dictatorship purging minority groups. I don't think that you can accept that America invaded another country which was recognised by the UN as a soverign nation for no reason other than to expand its sphere of influence in another region of the world.

Getting back on the subject...

First off, forgive me. I know this is long, but I feel it's relevant to the discussion at hand.

From my observations, I feel that there is a fair amount of petty jealousy involved in some of the anti-American sentiment in other parts of the world. The Middle East and North Africa were once intellectual hotspots and considered by some to be the epicenter of civilization in earlier times. Now they're considered by many Westerners (not just Americans) and some who live in the regions, to be savage lands where sexism and barbarism are allowed to run rampant and also serve as breeding grounds for terrorists. That notion may have some merit in some cases (Afghanistan under the Taliban, the Islamofascism in Iran, etc), but not all of the region is backwater and there are many people there who have a sincere desire to change things, however their voices are often shouted down by the more radical elements who embrace the more fanatical sects of Islam. As many of us know, the fanatics often cite the Jews and Israel as being their main oppressor, and this gives them all the reason they need to hate the US.

Another obervation I've made, and this is a bit more general, is that our culture here in the US is often imported to other regions. Very few countries don't have establishments that serve Coke or Pepsi. Many of our television programs, clothing, goods, films, slang, and other items are also imported overseas and there are some people who feel that it is "polluting" their own culture. The French are notorious for being very protective of their language and the French government has forbidden the use of the word "e-mail" in official publications as it isn't a true French word. Other nations have done similar things, but this is one item which sticks out in my mind the most as I know French citizens who use the word "e-mail" and believe their government's stance is ridiculous.

I also feel that some nations may be envious of our millitary strength, perhaps with good reasons. If you're on a bus and some tall, musclebound guy steps on the bus and takes a seat right next to you, you're going to want to get on his good side. And if anyone had the nerve to try and rob you, you'd really like it if this guy were to step in on your behalf. However, if this guy were to challenge someone else for no real or perceived reason, then you'd do it, but only if you had some other people on your side. Even then, there's only so much you can do before things get out of hand. The US is much like that muscleman to an extent. Personally, I'd prefer to be a bit more isolationist, but that's a double edged sword as eventually someone would ask for you for some reason, and if it's a nation which is hated for other reasons (take Israel for example), then you're damned if you don't, damned if you do.

I don't feel that the US is any different from any other major "super power" from the past or present. All have their pros and cons and history will be the ultimate judge of their character. I may be a bit biased, but I feel that I am blessed to live in the US where I have certain rights people in other nations do not have. Am I any better than they are just because I was born here? Absolutely not. We're all people and deserve basic respect regardless of our homeland.

maybe i'm putting a little more emotion into this than people are use to hearing, forgive me. I am by no means trying to piss anyone off here, I just wanted to start a little heated conversation and debate with some people without turning this into a flame war. Is that allright Fatboy?

I do not feel we take over countries for our own interests. We did not invade Iraq for thier oil, hell i'm still paying $1.80 for a gallon of gas so it didn't help much if we did. If anything, we did it out of revenge, Saddam tried to kill Bush Sr. and that probably pissed little bush off. Would anyone have a problem with it if we had gone there alone?

There's nothing wrong with feeling proud of something.

i thought we did strike afghanistan. but it had no real military targets and wasn't a good enough fix for us. Iraq though, now there's something to gloat about. Bush has Saddam's pistol that was found on him in the spiderhole, mounted in his office. A trophy.

And yes i voted for Bush, agree with 80% of what he says and those terrorists didn't come from afghanistan, they came from saudi arabia, but we couldn't strike them because THAT'S where we get our oil from so yeah, we're hypocrites.

No one is ignoring it. I think their point is what business do the USA (or anyone else) have in telling Iraq how to run it's country ?

Quote:
No offense, but anyone from Australia, you've never been in a major war

Whoa there, I'll tell one of the Aussie boys rape your ass over this one, but as a starter, the Australian Army were involved in both of the World Wars (mostly against the Japanese), Korea and Vietnam. Your ignorance in this matter is *exactly* the problem some people have with the USA.

Or do you mean that Australia has never been attacked ? Because that's bullshit too as they were bombed by the Japs in WW2. Of all the countries in the world I actually think that it's mainland USA that's never been bombed or occupied.

Quote:
Oh and you French cowards, just sit down and shut up. You practically welcomed Hitler with open arms.

I hear this sort of thing often. Do you remember that you left the French out-to-dry in WW1 ? They asked you for help when Germany attacked, and you sat on the fence waiting to see who'd win while the allied countries of Europe teamed together to fight the German army.

Is it any surprise after the bombing and destruction that WW1 caused in France that at the outset of WW2 they opt'd for neutrality because they knew they couldn't count on the USA to have their back ?

What and 9/11 isn't a mainland attack? What about the War of 1812? The British burned Washington DC.

Terrorism and another country attacking you are different.

The British and Canadians attacked because, YOU ATTACKED US.

I always thinks its funny how americans love the say they save everyone in WW2. HELLO the war started 1939 you got there LATE. The British Common Wealth entered the war with Britain. The French were occupied, I don't seen you telling off the Dutch or the Belgians for being occupied.

Take a fucking history class.

You don't *have* a culture - just the bullshit that you've bolted together from other people's cultures.

9/11 wasn't an act of war, nor was it a wartime bombing. It was an act of terror, and there are extremely significant differences. But I like how you highlighted that point, but ignored the rest of my post.

I'm certainly not anti-america (shit, I lived there for a few years), but I am anti-ignorant-asshole. If you are going to mouth-off on the internet it's a good idea to check a few things out before stating them as fact - it makes your arguement sound a whole lot better.

edit

I just thought I'd add:-

Quote:
America is now the most powerful nation on the planet

Powerful is rather objective. Japan has a better economy than you. The UK has better education and healthcare systems, Germany builds better cars, Brazil makes better coffee etc etc. But yeah, you do have a lot of nuclear missiles..............

Sorry. I have a tendency to get really pissed off whenever I hear this anti-american bullshit, especially from Americans themselves, who take advantage of their freedoms (I don't know if anyone heard about this) like that college professor who compared the victims of 9/11 to nazis and said they deserved it.

1) Hmm, damn all those smart people, better start burning books so we don't have anymore of those crazy smart people.

2) Your anti-american bullshit is what the rest of the world calls critical thinking.

3) The War on Terrorism is already won. They won the moment they attacked, the american public will always be afraid of another one, and that is all it takes.

Too bad you're in Iraq NOT fighting the terrorists who attacked us, then. It's a fucking shame we didn't directly address that before we sent you and others like you into a country for constantly-shifting reasons. You're not fighting a war on Terror right now. You're nation building. Two completely different things.

And thats' not even getting into the fact that declaring war on a style of war is moronic. Terrorism is simply a style of warfare. Trying to stamp out a style of warfare by declaring war on it is like putting out a brush fire with napalm.

war ( P ) Pronunciation Key (wôr)
n.

A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, or parties.
The period of such conflict.
The techniques and procedures of war; military science.

A condition of active antagonism or contention: a war of words; a price war.
A concerted effort or campaign to combat or put an end to something considered injurious: the war against acid rain.

One might say that by rebuilding nations in such a way that they influence their people to fight wars the way that we fight wars is a concerted effort to put an end to the kind of thinking that leads people to use the style of warfare called terrorism.

I'm not saying it makes sense to blow the fuck out of someone's country, for whatever reason, and expect everyone to be happy about it.

I'm just saying that's the current argument.

In the long run, if we could get everyone to fight and think like us, we're better off - safer, even.

But, I think of it like this:

During the revolution, our guerilla tactics helped us defeat the giant. The Brits didn't wise up and stop lining up to be killed to fight back effectively. We're kind of doing the same thing in Iraq and elsewhere -- expecting the world to conform to our way of thinking and thus, our way of fighting.

Globalization is a bitch for everybody. We're just big enough to think we can make it easier on ourselves by manipulating the smaller guys.

That's why the EU is such a big threat, economically speaking. Our lack of acceptance to the fact that we're not the only economic superpower is part of why we're being rubbed the wrong way when they won't comply militarily, either.

As Malkie has briefly mentioned, Darwin was bombed by the Japanese in WW2 and Sydney was attacked by Japanese midget submarines in the same conflict. Japanese torpedeos destroyed a ferry and a large section of Sydney harbour wharf (civilian of course). On top of that, Australian troops have served since the Boer War in South Africa, WW1, WW2, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Gulf War, East Timor and now Iraq. Our SAS troops were running operations inside Iraq for weeks before the offensive was launched and you can thank them for that "quick ride" to Baghdad you got. So I'm sorry that you think any Australian's opinion on warfare is null and void but in the good Queen's English you can get fucked.

I'm still waiting to hear what the 20% of Bush policy is that bearvomit disagrees with.

actually Islam believes that Jesus was a prophet and is the 3rd most important person in all of history after Mohammed and Abraham.

But Jesus wasn't just a prophet, he is LORD and all that attitude does is send you to hell.

I guess we should all be glad we were born where we are because I don't think some of you would do well here in the south.

Nation Building, yes, that's what the US is doing.

I agree. America is building up its own national interest in Iraq, therebvy building up America. Nation building. Iraq is an American colony, it can't support itself without a permanent American presence. Like I said before, people are the same anywhere in the world. It's just that the American people are part of a system of new-wave colonialism that they don't even recognise yet.

If America wanted to end terrorism, it'd leave the region to its own devices and stop fucking with it like it has since 1959 when they installed the Shah. That's all the Muslim world wanted from the start but it hasn't and won't happen. So this is what you get, people fighting back however they can. If you wanted to stop terrorism you'd build schools and hospitals and lift the decade long trade sanctions and UN vetoes and foster a feeling of goodwill towards your country instead of...well...killing people. I dunno, maybe that's me with my obscure logic but it seems that the "War On Terror" only ensures several more generations of terrorism as people all over the world find a personal reason to take action against the American nation (and its allies).

Never heard of the flood of Noah huh?

Hey, whatever people, i'm retarded and i guess that's what makes America better than other countries, I have the right to be retarded whereas you don't i guess. I don't want to hear any of you asking for America's help then next time the shit hits the fan though. Oh, and stop driving and flying too cause those were our inventions and we suck remember? Oh and so was that computer thing, radio, tv, lightbulb...sounds like you're the one with no culture. What have your countries contributed in the past 100 years other than bitching?

The 20% disagreement, Username, would be about our borders. I think our borders with Mexico and Canada are WAY too open and should be protected with our Armed Forces.

Whatever people, i'll stop posting here since no one is listening. Thanks for the debate. :whateva:

Have you?

Are you aware that the original story behind the flood is that God grew outraged that angels were fornicating with mortals, and sent the flood to wipe out the polluted race of Man, as well as the Nephilim (look it up)? Noah's family was the only pure bloodline left. That's why they were chosen to survive the flood in the ark. It had nothing to do with ridding the world of nonbelievers.

Oddly, Jesus doesn't talk about this much. And the purely mytholgical nature of it has been played down in the Bible more and more with each succeeding generation.

Additionally, Jesus didn't seem to be very big on pride, hatred, or killing, but I guess you haven't read those parts of the Bible yet either.

Rudyard Kipling wrote:
Take up the White Man's burden--
Send forth the best ye breed--
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild--
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half-devil and half-child.

Take up the White Man's burden--
In patience to abide,
To veil the threat of terror
And check the show of pride;
By open speech and simple,
An hundred times made plain
To seek another's profit,
And work another's gain.

Take up the White Man's burden--
The savage wars of peace--
Fill full the mouth of Famine
And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest
The end for others sought,
Watch sloth and heathen Folly
Bring all your hopes to nought.

Take up the White Man's burden--
No tawdry rule of kings,
But toil of serf and sweeper--
The tale of common things.
The ports ye shall not enter,
The roads ye shall not tread,
Go mark them with your living,
And mark them with your dead.

Take up the White Man's burden--
And reap his old reward:
The blame of those ye better,
The hate of those ye guard--
The cry of hosts ye humour
(Ah, slowly!) toward the light:--
"Why brought he us from bondage,
Our loved Egyptian night?"

Take up the White Man's burden--
Ye dare not stoop to less--
Nor call too loud on Freedom
To cloke your weariness;
By all ye cry or whisper,
By all ye leave or do,
The silent, sullen peoples
Shall weigh your gods and you.

Take up the White Man's burden--
Have done with childish days--
The lightly proferred laurel,
The easy, ungrudged praise.
Comes now, to search your manhood
Through all the thankless years
Cold, edged with dear-bought wisdom,
The judgment of your peers!

Circa 1899. Not much change in over 100 years...

Do you honestly believe there is some kind of all powerful being out there who is specifically punishing one form of his followers

No, i believe that Jesus Christ is punishing MUSLIMS who do NOT believe in him and are NOT his followers

Why would Christ want to kill off those who are the most in need of forgiveness and salvation through Him? I guess that "Love thy neighbor as thyself" and "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" stuff was rendered null and void and I didn't get the memo, eh?

Seriously, as a Christian, I take offense to your remarks. Christ taught us to love and care for everyone, even those who don't believe in Him. Your comments are not reflective of Christianity and do more harm than good. It's obvious that you're riled up about the subject here, perhaps you should take some time to settle down so you don't make any more hasty remarks which you may later come to regret.

Seriously, you should get an award for least thought out or constructed post ever. Made me laugh at little, but not in a good way.

You should seriously question yourself when the other Americans don't support your posts.

As far as StarWars being American........well, Lucas is America, and most of the funding for the money was American, but it was largely filmed in London, with many British actors. Furthermore the PT was largely filmed in Oz, again with largely non-american actors (Canadian, British, Israeli).

I don't really know why I'm responding to your post - I'm all for having a debate, but there's not really much of a debate to your posts. I also find it a little bit comical that you tell so much people to "fuck themselves" because they don't share your (slanted) opinions. I merely pointed out a few facts, and highlighted a few opinions - I didn't state them as personal opinion but apparently you have a hard time separating that.
