i am enjoying this thread.

however: Bear, why do you always bring up the latest gossip to this thread? Maybe that was your intent all along, a fun and silly look at the 08 election? but hell, you used the national enquirer as a source for one of your "updates"

well if you remember, the National Enquirer were the ones who broke the story about Jon Edwards cheating on his wife. They aren't completely about bigfoot found in Ga and Bush is really an alien.

it's only gossip until it hits cnn three days later.

And you know, I would be much more inclined to vote democrat if they weren't so damn tied to this abortion shit. Is giving a woman a choice REALLY that fucking important to these people?? I'll give you a choice, decide if you're spitting or swallowing tonight bitch.

Gawker - Sarah Palin's Personal Emails

Quote:
Did the internet just cause Sarah Palin to destroy evidence? The potential Veep is in a bit of trouble for conducting state business using her personal, unarchived email address (gov.sarah@yahoo.com) instead of her official account (which is, of course, subject to laws requiring the retention of government records).

Emails from that Yahoo account are already being sought in connection with the Troopergate investigation.

Now comes word that Anonymous, the fun-loving Internet trouble-makers based loosely around the message board 4Chan, gained access to another Palin email account: gov.palin@yahoo.com.

It looks legit! The offending posts, screenshots, heretofore unseen family photos, and emails have all been deleted from Imageshack and 4Chan. But we have them. You want to read Sarah Palin's email?

Is that really the reason you don't vote democratic? I think there are larger issues than abortion that the democrats have (and i'm a registered dem). Besides, Palin thinks that abortion is wrong all the time. Her stance is more favorable towards rapists than women.

National enquirer broke a completely pointless "scandal". was anyone--besides you--really upset about it? everyone knows it's a joke rag

a bigger reason than killing babies..um no. I mean, I have other reasons, such as gun control, taxes, pissing money away to these "italians" but killing babies ranks number 1. Abortion IS wrong all the time. How many women really have kids because they got raped?? An insignificant number compared to the millions of unborns that are slaughtered in this country, all because of convienence. Do you hear what you're saying?? Lets allow all women to kill their unborn child because "some" out there might have gotten raped and not want the baby. What happened to adoption???

also, since when does the messenger matter? Who cares where the info came from, they had reporters at his hotel at 2:00 in the morning and followed him out of that womans room and into the bathroom where he hid and called security. Yeah, it's dumb, but it was national news and ruined his career. He was going to speak at the National Convention until this broke and there were rumors he was on obama's short list for VP. That all went away when he admitted he cheated.

Didn't the McCain campaign recently threaten the National Enquirer about stories related to Palin? Can't have it both ways, Chief.

allright, in the spirit of bi-partisanship, I present Sarah Palin being protected from witches. yes, witches:

And now, equally disturbing, Obama declaring the need for a "civilian paramilitary force"

so, we've got the choice of the "SS" being reformed and marching through Indiana, or the possibility of witches screaming from the White House from the double Horcrux protection of Sarah Palin!!

I don't like it either, and it needs it's own thread to deal with. A US Army unit trained to deal with civil unrest in the States?? ! Where is our country going???

Your average person is a fucking moron. I get to deal with members of the public all day long, and they are usually dumber than a wet box of shit. This thread contains more video proof of that than I ever thought possible. And that's why I am rooting for the appocalypse. I'd vote for it, but write-ins never win.

Troy is right. I work at a restaurant, and people are so dense.

Not only that, but it's a steakhouse, meaning I encounter mostly old, white Republicans very similar to the people in those videos. Once I saw a customer walk in with a giant Confederate flag on his back!

If Obama wins, I see that as a swift kick to the groin for all of those obtuse supporters

I am left scratching my head more times a day than I care to count at comments by supporters of both sides. I love this bit Howard Stern did where he sent someone out to interview "Italians" and ask them if they support certain stances or statements of Obama, however, they actually gave them stances and statements made by McCain. Every single Italian agreed with the particular stance or statement and when one was asked if they though Palin was a good choice by Obama for VP they of course said yes it was. When asked if they thought that Biden was a good choice by McCain of course they didn't like him.

I understand that unless you have been in an Italians skin you can't quite understand how they feel, but this type of blind loyalty because of a candidates skin color is just absurd. It is this type of blind obedience that got 8 terrifying years of hell under Bush because some people can't bring themselves to not vote party lines. If only everyone could be fair and balance like fox news :what:

So, the mainstream media seems to be calling Obama ahead at this point. I still don't like either candidate very much, but of the 2 I still dislike Obama the least. McCain, especially when put on the spot, seems like a complete dumb-ass. Choosing Palin as his running mate seems like a move attributable to a dumb-ass. She is obviously stupid as fuck. And her being Governor of a state with fewer people in it than the 3 counties I drive across to get to work makes me seriously question her "experience" level the Repubs are so fond of lauding. The two of them come across like an uncomfortable pair of forced together idiots, and the idea of them being in charge of even a garage-sale level event makes me nervous, let alone the idea of them actually being elected. And considering we have allready had most of a decade with a complete moron in the White house, it would be nice to finally be getting lied to again by someone at least mildly intelligent.

As far as the actual "issues" are concerned, either candidate is going to flip-flop on most of the "issues" once in office. Therefore, I've decided to only mildly give a rats ass about them at this point. I still dislike McCains anti-diplomacy stance, and I am suprised we still even bother to fund the State Department at all. I like Obama's talk of tax breaks for the middle-lower class, but let's face it, most if not all/any tax breaks like that are going to be on hold until the gigantic loan we are all giving the allready rich guys starts to sink in. So really, to me thier mouths are still moving but I'm not hearing anything anymore.

I just wonder what the KKK and other assorted racist groups are going to say once we have a black President that has a really "ethnic" name. And boy, is the Secret Service going to be fucking busy. Which is sad, because we should be beyond such racial mumbo-jumbo allready, and Carlton Obama seems Whiter than a lot of white people I know.

I wouldn't have voted for McCain under any circumstances, but I'm still surprised at how badly he has bungled things ( I did predict that he would win way back here.). It may sound like overkill to blame his failure on the Palin choice, but in years to come I think that will be seen as the single most defining stupid moment. I have to figure that if he had chosen someone more clueful as his running mate -- like say Condoleezza Rice -- his ticket would have been a lot stronger. Hell, just typing that should win me the title of Master of Obvious. But why didn't McCain see it?

I also think it doesn't help him that his campaign has been largely driven by reacting and responding to Obama, rather than by any agenda of his own. For all of his thousand years in the Senate, I think people really don't know much about him other than that he was a POW. He doesn't seem to want to be President for any greater reason than he wants to be President.

Canadianians talk funny. Didn't listen past the first 1:30, does she slip up and say anything embarassing in the clip?

Nice forum name change btw, how fitting.

One thing I just realized that has me kind of worried is just how close the race is in some places. Not that I'm actually rooting for either one to win, I'm just saying things could get ugly. No matter who wins the election, there are going to be a lot of really sore losers on Wednesday morning. After the support and seemingly large lead Obama has, if he looses now? Oh fuck. And if he beats McCain? "Angry Hillbilly Militia" types are going to come out of the woodwork. And with the state of the economy, whoever wins is inheriting a bit of a nightmare. Then again, that's a good excuse to use if you completely fuck up your first year in office. That's what I'd do. After the riots anyway.

"Irrational Bullshit"

...Man, that's just asking for it now.

This may seem like a tall order and damn near impossible task at this point in time, but if Obama wins tomorrow he has to knock it out of the park during his term. Not necessarily in the first year but come 2012 if this country isn't in better shape than it's in right now Palin and co. will have all the ammunition they need to oust Barack from office and that's my biggest fear going into this thing tomorrow.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and for all the Cali residents out there, no on 2, 4, and 8.

I genuinely didn't care about this one way or the other UNTIL the right-wing propaganda started: "THEY'RE GOING TO TEACH GAY MARRIAGE IN SCHOOLS!!!" Conservatives have a special talent for describing issues in the most retarded manner possible. Really, "they're" going to teach it? Who the fuck was ever taught marriage of ANY kind in school? And for that matter, if all "we" have to do to stop the spread of rampant homosexuality is to prevent the teaching of it in our schools, then what the fuck's up with our track record so far?

Sorry, Bearpuke, but I can't support the state telling anyone who they can and can't marry. Funny how you freedom-loving types seem to love freedom most when you can deny it to someone else.

marriage is a christian doctrine, between a man and a woman. you might not be christian when you get married, but you're following a christian tradition. call it a civil union if you want, it's just not marriage and shouldn't be recognized as such.

Just my say on proposition 8, definitely marriage should be between a man and a woman only. Whether or not you believe in god is up to you but for centuries it's always been between a man and a woman. Maybe my view has to deal with the fact that I'm Mormon (and no I won't discuss religion because I don't like to get into religious discussions), either way gay marriage is wrong and should be banned.

But the ballot proposal says nothing of protecting marriage and its Christian stance that it be between a man and a woman but rather, and I quote, "Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry." In fact the entire text of proposition 8, according to the official Yes on 8 website, is as follows: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California." If anything, judging by the TV spots that have aired in the weeks leading up to the election, prop 8 is designed to protect children in schools, despite the fact that no K-12 curriculum that I can recall entails a discussion of what qualifies as marriage, than consenting adults.

Call a spade a spade: If you vote "yes" on this proposition then you are ostensibly telling the state of California that you do not believe same sex couples should have the right to marry one another. And that's fine, we're all entitled to a difference of opinion and making our voices heard in the voting booth. But to hide behind the veil of religion when clearly the writers of this act had no intention of protecting marriage as a Christian institution but rather marriage defined under California law is misguided and disingenuous.

Yeah, I was genuinely bothered by the hate homosexuals are getting in California. The others in this topic are saying it better than I, but I (and i thought America, too) am against any sort of discrimination.

The wording in the election guide over here a supporter of Prop 8 states that it "has nothing to do with their lifestyle choice, which is some of the most ignorant thinking I've ever seen.

And I can't think of a single lesson in school on marriage. Ever. But parents want to teach their kids to hate gays in the privacy of their own home.

What a bunch of distractionary bullshit. Why is it anyones, especially the State governments, fucking business who marries who? How does it affect the State either way, regardless of gender? Taxes? Not going to really affect that in any qualitative way, so, no. That doesn't work. Car insurance premiums maybe? Or is it strictly because it offends some peoples religious beliefs? Your fault for having them, assholes. Don't make the rest of the world tip-toe around your idiotic adherence to worn out traditions. I'm not going to stuff my girl in a burka either. Or pray. Or feel bad for "sinning". If your God wants me to act a certain way, get them out here and have them say it to our faces. Oh, wait. Sorry. Santa maybe? Either way, it's not the States duty to mandate religious adherence to anyone. It's a waste of funding to enforce this namby pamby bullshit. Particularly when there is so much more to worry about.

And as far as "heterosexual couples as the standard pairing in a socially accepted marriage" being a strictly Christian ideal, weren't Jesus' parents fucking married, you dumbshits? Or is your Savior an illegitimate bastard born out of wedlock? (Your formula, not mine peeps) Because after all, Jesus was not a Christian. Unless he was a follower of himself. But it stands to reason that the practice pre-dates the Christian religion.

i'll shut up. the country has spoken. yes, you can. apparently. Barack Obama is my president in two months and I'll support him as much as I can.

I will add this to the argument of God's role in our nation's laws. It's George Washington's First Inaugural Address made in 1789. HE believed in God, as is apparent in this speech:

Quote:
Fellow-Citizens of the Senate and of the House of Representatives:

AMONG the vicissitudes incident to life no event could have filled me with greater anxieties than that of which the notification was transmitted by your order, and received on the 14th day of the present month. On the one hand, I was summoned by my country, whose voice I can never hear but with veneration and love, from a retreat which I had chosen with the fondest predilection, and, in my flattering hopes, with an immutable decision, as the asylum of my declining years—a retreat which was rendered every day more necessary as well as more dear to me by the addition of habit to inclination, and of frequent interruptions in my health to the gradual waste committed on it by time. On the other hand, the magnitude and difficulty of the trust to which the voice of my country called me, being sufficient to awaken in the wisest and most experienced of her citizens a distrustful scrutiny into his qualifications, could not but overwhelm with despondence one who (inheriting inferior endowments from nature and unpracticed in the duties of civil administration) ought to be peculiarly conscious of his own deficiencies. In this conflict of emotions all I dare aver is that it has been my faithful study to collect my duty from a just appreciation of every circumstance by which it might be affected. All I dare hope is that if, in executing this task, I have been too much swayed by a grateful remembrance of former instances, or by an affectionate sensibility to this transcendent proof of the confidence of my fellow-citizens, and have thence too little consulted my incapacity as well as disinclination for the weighty and untried cares before me, my error will be palliated by the motives which mislead me, and its consequences be judged by my country with some share of the partiality in which they originated.

Such being the impressions under which I have, in obedience to the public summons, repaired to the present station, it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the councils of nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that His benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the people of the United States a Government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes, and may enable every instrument employed in its administration to execute with success the functions allotted to his charge. In tendering this homage to the Great Author of every public and private good, I assure myself that it expresses your sentiments not less than my own, nor those of my fellow-citizens at large less than either. No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency; and in the important revolution just accomplished in the system of their united government the tranquil deliberations and voluntary consent of so many distinct communities from which the event has resulted can not be compared with the means by which most governments have been established without some return of pious gratitude, along with an humble anticipation of the future blessings which the past seem to presage. These reflections, arising out of the present crisis, have forced themselves too strongly on my mind to be suppressed. You will join with me, I trust, in thinking that there are none under the influence of which the proceedings of a new and free government can more auspiciously commence.

By the article establishing the executive department it is made the duty of the President "to recommend to your consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." The circumstances under which I now meet you will acquit me from entering into that subject further than to refer to the great constitutional charter under which you are assembled, and which, in defining your powers, designates the objects to which your attention is to be given. It will be more consistent with those circumstances, and far more congenial with the feelings which actuate me, to substitute, in place of a recommendation of particular measures, the tribute that is due to the talents, the rectitude, and the patriotism which adorn the characters selected to devise and adopt them. In these honorable qualifications I behold the surest pledges that as on one side no local prejudices or attachments, no separate views nor party animosities, will misdirect the comprehensive and equal eye which ought to watch over this great assemblage of communities and interests, so, on another, that the foundation of our national policy will be laid in the pure and immutable principles of private morality, and the preeminence of free government be exemplified by all the attributes which can win the affections of its citizens and command the respect of the world. I dwell on this prospect with every satisfaction which an ardent love for my country can inspire, since there is no truth more thoroughly established than that there exists in the economy and course of nature an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity; since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained; and since the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered, perhaps, as deeply, as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.

Besides the ordinary objects submitted to your care, it will remain with your judgment to decide how far an exercise of the occasional power delegated by the fifth article of the Constitution is rendered expedient at the present juncture by the nature of objections which have been urged against the system, or by the degree of inquietude which has given birth to them. Instead of undertaking particular recommendations on this subject, in which I could be guided by no lights derived from official opportunities, I shall again give way to my entire confidence in your discernment and pursuit of the public good; for I assure myself that whilst you carefully avoid every alteration which might endanger the benefits of an united and effective government, or which ought to await the future lessons of experience, a reverence for the characteristic rights of freemen and a regard for the public harmony will sufficiently influence your deliberations on the question how far the former can be impregnably fortified or the latter be safely and advantageously promoted.

To the foregoing observations I have one to add, which will be most properly addressed to the House of Representatives. It concerns myself, and will therefore be as brief as possible. When I was first honored with a call into the service of my country, then on the eve of an arduous struggle for its liberties, the light in which I contemplated my duty required that I should renounce every pecuniary compensation. From this resolution I have in no instance departed; and being still under the impressions which produced it, I must decline as inapplicable to myself any share in the personal emoluments which may be indispensably included in a permanent provision for the executive department, and must accordingly pray that the pecuniary estimates for the station in which I am placed may during my continuance in it be limited to such actual expenditures as the public good may be thought to require.

Having thus imparted to you my sentiments as they have been awakened by the occasion which brings us together, I shall take my present leave; but not without resorting once more to the benign Parent of the Human Race in humble supplication that, since He has been pleased to favor the American people with opportunities for deliberating in perfect tranquillity, and dispositions for deciding with unparalleled unanimity on a form of government for the security of their union and the advancement of their happiness, so His divine blessing may be equally conspicuous in the enlarged views, the temperate consultations, and the wise measures on which the success of this Government must depend.

So take it up with George Washington there Troy. :whatevaho:

Congratulations to Barack Obama, and to the United States of America for an historic election.

And as far as "heterosexual couples as the standard pairing in a socially accepted marriage" being a strictly Christian ideal, weren't Jesus' parents fucking married, you dumbshits?

Of course. I can even go back a bit farther than that. But in all fairness, maybe Bear and Raveers have Bibles that don't refer to Eve as Adam's wife. It really is startling how many people who hold up the Bible as the fulcrum of their argument are required to ignore large swatches of it in order to keep arguing.

Right now it looks like Prop 8 is winning. Law-abiding, taxpaying American citizens get shit on again.

Conveniently, you avoid mentioning that George Washington was not a Christian but a Freemason. I don't think George would be winning too many elections in this day and age.

Voted McCain. Don't really like him, but the other choice was unacceptable.

And I can't think of a single lesson in school on marriage. Ever. But parents want to teach their kids to hate gays in the privacy of their own home.

A California elementary school class was sent on a field trip to see their female first grade teacher marry another girl.

I don't think permission from parents was obtained. If that isn't attempted indoctrination, well, I don't know what is.

Thankfully, Question 8 passed. Maybe there's hope for California.

As for the election, Obama will go back on just about every promise. I give it six to eight months before lib media starts to admit/cover it.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he is assassinated within eighteen months.

What you mean is, you don't know if permission was obtained. In fact, the trip was a parent's idea, and permission was obtained for all children who attended.

Indoctrination into what, tolerance? You can't indoctrinate people into being gay, you stupid, fearful, ignorant fuck.

are you 12 ? I'm wondering if you can have a debate without namecalling? Why is gay marriage so important to you anyways? Being gay is a choice. It isn't found anywhere else in nature except humans. You aren't born gay. You develop a perverce and warped mind and DECIDE to be gay. There are millions that have stopped being gay. If they were born that way, that wouldn't be possible.

There's no scientific consensus on the innateness of homosexuality, but there's plenty of proof that suggests it's not quite totally a matter of choice as is often touted in the mainstream. There's been plenty of inquiry into the matter, such as extensive interviews, studies of twins, birth order probability, physiological differences, and societal gender expectations.

But suppose it was a matter of choice, what's so reprehensible about gay relations?

Anyway, when you take a break from reading your Bible and tongue-washing George Washington's fossilized pelvic bone, do a little research.

Tell that to a dog I use to own. He used to try to hump any dog he saw, including other male dogs. But yeah, it was probably his choice.

There's plenty to admire about George Washington and the other "founding fathers," but like many historical figures, they're stuck in time, having been guided by more superstition than I'm even comfortable thinking about.

That speech has nothing to do with actual legislation. It suggests the role of religion in government in only the sort of very vague, but comforting and flowery way that most speeches written by people all over the world throughout all time have ever been written.

wearing clothes and using toilet paper isn't found any where else in nature either. Anyway, you are actually wrong, it is not uncommon at all for two males to do what would be considered sex even if it is a form of domination. My marriage to my wife isn't the least bit threatened by the possibility of homosexuals also being allowed to marry. I have worked for a few companies that allowed people to cover one other person on their insurance regardless of their relationship status, what is so wrong with that? Why is the government trying to legislate what should ber a religious matter? Marriage is a sacrament and in my opinion whether 2 men or a man and a woman unless you are married by a clergy of some form you are not married and instead in a civil union. Going before the justice of the peace is not getting married before god. Why then can't gays enjoy the same rights such as healthcare and wills. It is suchg a fucking joke the way straight people have treated marriage by the fucking number of divorces, but all of a sudden they are worried about protecting the sacntity of it. Bullshit! This is just intolerance cloaked with morality.

 Typical liberal response.

Tolerance is for those people who lack any moral conviction.
