First off, let's stop calling the U.S.A. America... it's not America. The U.S.A. is on a continent called North America. There is also a South and Central America too. By calling yourselves "Americans" then you are putting yourselves in the same category as the Cubans, Mexicans and Brazillians.

Then you need to check your history books - Alexander Bell was Scottish, born and bred. He was *in* north america when he built the first telephone, but nevertheless he was a Scot.

Interestingly, if you visit the American History Museum in Washington DC their telephone display clearly states that Alexander Bell was American. I love it when they rewrite history.

Furthermore, as a comment on the list of important inventions - Flemming (discoverer of penicillin) was also Scottish.

Well, Fleming didnt really do much. Accidently left a plate out, saw a ring with no bacterial growth around some fungus (Penicillium notatum), but didnt really investigate it.


It was the Aussie, Howard Florey, along with Ernst Chain that did all the work that did the hard yards in producing, isolating, and testing penicillin.

Fleming was a bit of a chump. Found it by fluke, didnt really follow up too much....though I'm not sure if it reflects on Flemings intellect or the technology available to him.

He did some fine work on those James Bond books, though. MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN is much better than the movie made from it.

I'm not saying that's definitely going to happen to the U.S., as I truly do care about this country and believe that despite its flaws it is different from those previous empires in how many individual rights and liberties each of its own citizens have. Problem is that Bollywood movies don't have a market in the states (because (a) most aren't in english, and (b) you are an overly xenophobic nation) and as such the average American doesn't think they exist.

You could hold the American school system's focus on American history / geography over world history / geography responsible.

Which movies are "better" is totally subjective, however no-one can argue the fact that American movies take more money at the box office. (however i think it costs 25c to see a movie in India)



Only the X-box is an American console - everything previous was Japanese. Nintendo, SEGA and Sony own the consoling world - but you are right that a huge amount of development goes on in the states. I'm just happy that the biggest selling game ever (the GTA3 series) was made by RockStar who are a Scottish company
