Aren't the "light" lightsabers made from natural crystals and the "dark" ones made from synthetic crystals?

Is it possible that the colors are just determined by the crystal that they're made from, and they don’t have any other significance?

Mace is the only Jedi that has a purple blade so maybe he found a unique crystal.
