Recently started watching the Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar:The Last Airbender a few weeks ago. Flipped past it one day, and thought it looked a'ight so I started watching. I was hooked like a crackhead in crackland. Kung-fu, crazy elemental manipulation abilities, good story and it's set in a world that has such a weight to it, you would think every bit character walking by in the background had a life of thier own. There's not a lot of blood or anything, but people actually die in this world. There is a sense of danger and intense drama like I have never seen in a kids show before. And the characters grow immensely from beginning to end. The voice actors and animators did a great job bringing the work of the fantastic writing to life. It won awards and shit. Great show.

So, a few years ago, M. Night Shamylan decides he wants to make a live action movie of this story. And I'm sure the producers and creators of the TV show thought it sounded like a great idea. I only heard about the movie recently, and having just become an addict, I was hyped to see this fantastic world and the great tale of Aang (sounds like "Ayng") brought to life. And I was more dissapointed then the entire south was when Obama got elected.

This has got to be the singlehandedly hands down flat out no way around it worst fucking movie ever released by a major studio that I have actually seen. I find great humor in the talkbacks and comments sections all over the internet killing this movie. Controversial casting, truncated story, physical limits of time and FX believability for the big screen all aside, Shamylan is insane. And not very good. The actors didn't act, they read lines while in costume. That isn't the same thing. And the changes to the name pronunciations, the story, and the look of some key elements comes across as lazy and inept at best, pretentious and insulting to actual fans of the source material at worst. I think its actually a clusterfuck of sucktitude and a synthesis of lazy, inept, pretentious and insulting.

I would have put this in the movie section, but it seems more like a fucking joke, or a mean prank played on people who enjoyed the tv program, than an actual attempt to make a movie. They should have just made a badass cartoon for the big screen, instead of this drivel. I liked the 6th sense, and unbreakable was okay, but after Signs, and the villiage, I stopped watching this dork's movies altogether. Hopefully now, people stop letting him make movies. Because he's clearly not good at it.

For me the singlehandedly hands down flat out no way around it worst fucking movie ever released by a major studio was Battlefield Earth. Could this be worse? I don’t know how, but maybe its how much one enjoys the source material. I read that book in the mid 80’s. The cover of the one I bought had a banner stating “soon to be a major motion picture”. I really liked the book a lot and waited 15 years for the movie that turned out to be the single biggest turd I’d ever seen. Dudes I’d bragged to about how great the book was still give me a hard time over that crap movie. My bro got me an official movie poster prior to the release I now have hanging in my garage, but its there as a nod to the book, not movie. And my bro.

It's funny because every time the trailer for his upcoming flick "Devil" (which he produced and didn't direct) played in front of any film I've seen recently, as soon as his name appears on screen a sea of groans and chuckles lets out in the theater. This guy's credibility has gone so far downhill as of late and it's so fucking sad. Shyamalan showed so much promise early on and it just seems like he's intent on thumbing his nose at his critics (which, as it turns out, is just about everyone nowadays).

I went in the early afternoon on a weekday by myself. So In all, with my large slushy and the candy bars I had stuffed in my pockets because movie candy is a joke nowadays, I spent about $10.

And I'm not "po". I'm impoverished. Unemployment pays like working part time at McDonalds. A slow McDonalds. I have a really nice yard around my doublewide now, though. I got a killer tan mowin the lawn twice a week. And I had to clear a lot of brush, so I got out my old dull machette and pick-axe and started goin all Rawhead Rex on nature twice a week since April. Looks a lot nicer now. I bet my neighbors think I'm nuts though. Which is fine because I live between a swamp and a convicted sex offender. Better that the neighbors get a little intimidated.

I still want my money back over this one, though. What a piece of crap movie this was. I'm not expecting much from "Devil" either. Anything this guy is attached to is suspect in my mind now. To think he'd let takes like the ones that made it into The Last Airbender see anything past the editing room floor says a lot about the current state of M. Knight's "skillz". I don't care if he didn't direct it. His involvment is like VD in my eyes.

Really. VD. In my eyes. :breasts:

I can't take credit for this graph, but it's amazing that he's the epitome of a one hit wonder in the movie industry:
