Originally this topic was in MP3s and was for the group's Iron Maiden cover. Thought it would make for a good topic for this forum for the group's new upcoming album Death Magnetic, produced by Rick Rubin.

The song The Day That Never Comes was just released on itunes. Someone was kind enough to upload it to youtube.

Also on a somewhat related note, the forum theme myApple has been polished off slightly (though it still needs more work) and is the default one since it resembles The Clone Wars austere white and blue designs.

Funny, because the consensus so far amongst the fans is that it is the weakest song on the album.

Overall, this is one hell of an album. Definitely the best thing they've put out since the Black Album and possibly better than that. It gets better with each listen though. I can't wait to get the physical copy and hear it in its full glory.

I'm sure someone will flame me for it, but after listening to the hype that this is a return to the old days, this is Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning, I just don't feel it. Some of the melodies feel recycled from previous songs, and the vocals sound weak on some tracks.

Maybe I'll give it a few more listens, as well. Maybe it hasn't grown enough on me.

Thanks for the upload. I'm curious how the new album sounds. :heavymetal:

For me, the best Metallica is the early Metallica. Since Cliff Burton died the band has also died a little bit each active year.

I won't flame you, but you definitely need to give it another listen. It definitely grew on me after the first listen. I'm just not sure what more Metallica can do to please fans of the "old school" Metallica. Actually it seems everyone on the the official Metallica boards are pleased with it (and believe me, they don't exactly drink the kool-aid). Solos, double bass, heavy riffs, more growl in James' voice and the song structure is like ...And Justice For All. For me this is the best I could've hoped for from Metallica in 2008.

Another FYI - The sound quality is due to this initial rip being transcoded from a 128kbps wma audio stream. Again, the 192kbps and 320kpbs on the torrent sites have been transcoded from 128kbps wma "rip".

Initial impressions of the album is: St Justice.

After repeated listenings the album also seems to follow the Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, And Justice For All formula. For example the second to last track is a instrumental that fades out not unlike Puppet's Orion The Hunter. The three albums are definitely present here as evidenced by the crunch sound and return of the muted guitar chord. :heavymetal:

By the way despite the use of the Metallica "Pastor of Muppet" font on MF's ghetto banners, I'm not a that much of a Metallica band - the font is used because it looks :heavymetal: However I may buy this album depending how it is packaged.

Edited into Evil's post and fresh from "the scene" - a true rip of Death Magnetic finally dropped in the scene standard of -V2 (VBR). For those who want to use it to boost your ratio at registered trackers, the filenames have been left intact with NFO's etc.

The rip is still noisey (due to the mix) but it's considerably better than the initial 128kbps wma2mp3 transcodes.

MissionMetallica.com is Metallica's version of HyperSpace and offered a official 320kbps download. One of the versions of Death Magnetic being sold is a coffin-shaped box set called Box Magnetic which features track demos and a DVD of the recording process.

Below are torrents of all three:

Death Magnetic - Mission Metallica - 320kbps
Demo Magnetic - Demo Magnetic - 320kbps
Death Magnetic - Making Magnetic - XVID

Also here's James Hetfield - 45 and father of three, shopping with his wife and his hired mexican help:

yea, but I feel bad for him. Even though he has had a bit of success previous to metallica, he seems so plebeian when he is with them. That picture sums it up so well. That metallica movie is very telling when they call him to offer him the job and tell him the money he is getting. To them it is a weekend in vegas, to him it means his mortgage is paid for at least another few years. The rest of the band is like, oh how cute, money makes them so happy.

Actually, I believe all of them are pretty average guys except for Lars who is from another planet. Anyway, Rob is an excellent bassist and according to James has contributed more to this album than Jason Newsted contributed the entire time he was in the band.

Perhaps because they're finally letting the bassist have input into it, not that I want to get into the whole Metallica vs Newstead thing.

You're right, James said its because they allowed Rob to have input and they didn't really let Jason have his input. James said its his fault for that. However, part of me believes that Jason's input didn't/wouldn't mesh well with Metallica.
