Well I finally bit the bullet and went to Best Buy and signed up with their payment plan and I'll be doing low monthly payments but I now offically own a new TV.

I've gone from this to this.

Sadly we don't have Satellite/HDTV because they charge up the ass for that here in Utah. But hey I've been wanting a big TV for a long time and I finally broke down for it. I know I could have waited but I didn't want to wait any more.

By the way that is a Samsung 40''. I'll be getting a Sony dream home theater system (the $400.00) one later this year.

Nice. OK, i've got a question. How come even though they are widescreen tvs, they still show the black letterbox bars at the top and bottom when I see them in the stores?? Can you adjust it once you bring it home to get rid of those?

Yes. You should have a zoom option available on the remote to get rid of the black bars. The black bars don't bother me in the least bit. On my remote there is a zoom option.

but also they are there because some movie are not formatted for true 16:9 ratio goodness. If you zoom in you technically lose a little bit off the sides

But either way you are getting a far better picture on these tv's than the old box's.

Congrats btw Raveers! I still remember the day when I finally got my widescreen it's a 65inch toshiba and hot damn, I still get wood watching it, even if Dr. Phil's on mmmmk? :chewbacca:

Congrats Raveers. Although I hate payment plans. I always feel like I'm signing my life away. The salespeople always look like devils when I'm signing.

very cool enjoy it. It sucks you can't get HD, although I sometimes wonder if it is worth the cost.

Thanks stan.

My friend Joe says it's worth the cost... but what's holding me back is they want $200 for a damn HD reciever. Like I said I'll eventually get it but right now that's not my top priority. I'm just finally glad to get rid of the 4:3 TV.

Most satalite companies will let you lease a unit for far less than that, even an HD DVR. And hell yes it is worth it. My wife at first could care less about HD or reg tv (just like when DVD's came out) but now that we have it, she is hooked and loves it. It really makes a difference with what size tv you have as well. IMO anything over 40 inches and you should definitely get HD.

And does anyone remember what new channels they are adding in March ( i think that's the month)? I know FX is finally, it's gonna be sweet to watch the Shield and Rescue Me in true HD goodness.
