I know I'm about to get attacked for this but I think the prequel stories were far better than TFA. The PT do not deserve the abuse they get at all.

Story wise I agree 100%. TFA was very linear in it's approach similar to ANH (amongst other noticeable themes).

George created a complex (at times) story which was far different and wide-ranging to anything seen in the OT. This is the main reason some fans felt ostracised and distanced. Que the hate..

The PT was let down in it's execution. I still rank EPIII in my top 3 SW films, possibly 2nd behind Empire. Has the best JW score of all time too imo.

The prequel story was better executed than the lack thereof in TFA.

Haha! Wonderful! Like the cut of its jib.

EDIT: On a second viewing, the trailer feels all over the place. Hope it's good, though. They have my attention.

Thought this appropriate here.

I'm watching the hour-long extended interview with Dave Filoni on SW.com's "The Star Wars Show" and about 15-20 minutes into the interview (really recommend watching the entirety of it - it's really in-depth and insightful), it's basically implied that Dave Filoni got the job to be The Clone Wars director and subsequent Rebels one because of his love and understanding of the prequels. This is significant for two reasons. First, it shows that good things come to those who understand true film poetry ( :whatevaho: ). And secondly, Filoni is now considered among even some of the most prequel-loathing users on this board to be the most distinguished and respected courier of Star Wars in this new Disney/Lucasfilm era.

Take heed, bashers - there's gold in them mountains. I'm sure you'll find it eventually (here's some help: systems thinking - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systems_thinking).

I got into a heated debate about the prequels recently. I was accused of arguing their strengths from a point of rationality instead of feeling. "How do we feeeeeeeeeeeeel when we watch these movies, though?" I was basically tested.

The most worthy nugget of wisdom from this beautiful, top-quality documentary is that sometimes a little education or enlightenment is needed to get fucking apes to understand and experience what amounts to a staggering example of sublime human poetry. If we approach everything from basic, common instincts or from our fairly rested laurels, we're not growing or willing to accept something that's genuinely valuable and accomplished because it's uncomfortable and different. This documentary argues for Lucas' more than deserved status as a cinematic genius through the testimony of a grand variety of voices (both outsiders AND insiders) as they navigate the barrier between negative popular opinion and more favorable critical insight about this oft-derided trilogy of films. The documentary's breadth is considerable as it explores many topics such as the acting, the romance, the Ring Theory, the mythological structure, the music (in a somewhat mind-blowing segment), Lucas' filmmaking roots, Jar Jar (of course!) and many other aspects.

A long time ago, I was not as big a fan of the prequels as I am now. But through such aforementioned education and enlightenment, I've come to consider them invaluable works of art and even tantamount to the kind of cinematic genius the documentary boldly argues for. How do I feeeeeeeeeeeeel when I watch these movies now? Incomparable and utter delight.

You won't get attacked here.

Sadly, MF.com has become a prequel apologist site over the last few years.

Unbelievable... but true.

TPM was on TNT tonight. Still awful beyond words.

Jar Jar is irredeemable, no matter what bullshit some douches try to sell in a third rate documentary. :whatevaho:

Having battle droids say Roger, roger is almost as pathetic.

Portman sleepwalks through the whole movie. Just about everything is done wrong whether it's the stupid Pod Race announcers or the lack of screen time for Maul and Windu.

But it is okay now because they went back and put in AOTC/ROTS digital Yoda to replace that bizarre young Yoda puppet.

Yes, all is right with the world now.

What's patently ironic is that your MF.com moniker and avatar come from a film that receives similar criticism from its series' own detractors.

Have you even watched the "third rate" documentary in question? If you haven't, I cordially invite you to do so.

I think the prequel trilogy is a beautiful, intricate piece of storytelling art. Felt that way since 1999, more so now. The only reason these online battles ever occur is a person's need to validate their own opinions through others'. I long ago stopped searching for reasons to like the PT based on others' opinions. Also, the term "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" applies to nearly every PT vs. OT argument.

For me, the acting in TFA was superior to what we got overall, in the PT. But the story of the PT was powerful and well-told, two labels, in my judgement, can never be applied to TFA. 10 months into its shelf life, I find TFA far less re-watchable than all 3 of the PT films. Ultimately, I feel the story of TFA would work better as Episode 8. Too much important material was skipped over (because of the big 3's age, perhaps) for it to fulfill an important enough place in the movie saga to feel "right" and "acceptable" to me in that particular space (Ep. 7). The contents of Ep. 8 and 9 may prove me wrong. I hope they do.

I like what I like, and words on a screen from a stranger won't alter my opinion one bit.

I purchased and watched this documentary, and enjoyed it. I appreciate the motivation of the filmmakers, and am really glad Ring Theory was prominently featured. It's the best analysis of the films I've ever read, and deserved to be a prominent part of a documentary defending the PT.

I think if you need a documentary to justify an opinion, that speaks volumes.

And yeah, I'll watch any prequel over The Force Awakens any day.

Anti-intellectualism 101.

Who needs to talk things through in elaborate code at all? What need is there for sophistication and complexity in the analysis and interpretation of cultural artifacts? Why defend unpopular opinions if such efforts smack of desperation to the status quo? If something isn't instantly gratifying, game over? :vfuckoff:

I just watched this, and I have to say, this documentary wasn't needed to justify my opinion.

The doc itself is nicely done, but like "Trekkies," it doesn't help things much. People will still say stupid shit like "omg this site is now a pro-PT site!!" :whateva:

The Walt Whitman / George Lucas comparison early on is fucking brilliant. It's a comparison I've been making for years.
