Looking back, was anyone else guilty of being confused as FUCK when Obi-Wan was flung and pinned under the platform during the confrontation with Dooku? I hate the CGI here. It's glaringly obvious and looks crude. But the real issue with the platform coming down on him was the confusing condition of Obi-Wan. It appears the platform is crushing his legs, yet Anakin later approaches him and assures us he's alright. Of course, we're still wondering how his legs aren't crushed. Minutes later Obi-Wan's back on his feet good as ever and the audience is left incredulous. I know this from experience. Now, you can look back on it frame-by-frame via home video and note that the platform doesn't really crush him. However watching it in theaters without this advantage, it's easy to assume the falling object has done some serious damage to Obi-Wan. It's a totally sloppy execution and it kinda drove me nuts at the time. Good times. |

Yeah, I agree. It's very ambiguous and awkward. It reminds me of Mac's fate in Indy IV. Hey! Maybe that's where that debilitating leg pain went! WTF? [hr] Something that similarly drives me nuts and for the longest time haven't been willing to ask about until now: Why does Padme still look pregnant during her funeral procession? Is this some type of cultural custom? |

It was done to give the impression that her 'child' died with her - to protect the twins from the Empire. Only Yoda, Bail, Obi-wan, and Lars know of the twins until ANH. I wish there was more interaction between Lars and Anakin in the PT. Owen talks like he knew Anakin well and for a long time in ANH (from a certain point of view, I guess) but I want a reason besides the fact that he could think that the Jedi are evil (re: Imperial propaganda) as to why he speaks about Anakin/Obi-wan with such disdain. Obi-wan GAVE him a child; how evil could he be? Just off the top of my head - imagine that during the Clone Wars Anakin 'seized' Owen/Beru's residence as a hide-out for his troops and was eventually tracked down by Dooku/CIS. The resulting gunfight forced Owen/Beru to flee. Owen resented Anakin and the Jedi (Republic) for the incident. Could be a reason why he's not too hot on Luke getting involved in galactic politics. thinking out loud here ... move along ... |

The relationship of Ben, Anakin, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru is a disaster in the films. It's like Star Wars is no longer canon as a result of the prequels. I still can't believe all we got of that was the two brief scenes in Episode II and the rushed finale of III... |

Maybe I'm just plain wrong but I thought the floor was one of the few real life things in the prequel saga. :S |

There IS a difference when looking at the poor CGI in Clones and Sith versus a traditional movie where people are actually walking on the ground that is being put on film. Have you seen the HD versions of the these movies? Its not obvious on the DVD version. Watch it in 1080p and it's glaringly obvious.

I never trust anyone's opinion of CG anymore after I found several examples people complained about (buildings, ships etc.) that turned out to be models or partially-built backgrounds. Sorry.
