Post subject:  Who Is That Clone Wars Dude?

I appologize in advance if this has already been asked and answered. I looked, and soon grew tired of looking, so now I am asking.

I also hope I don't come off looking like an utter idiot if the answer is obvious, but here I go anyway.

Last week sometime I was watching the first season of the Clone Wars cartoons and there was an episode where Obi-wan was fighting a large dude on a speeder bike. When he cut him up, tenticals grew out and reconnected his body. I noticed that his head resembled Grievous' head. Although he looks to big to be Grievous, I am wondering who he is. Is it Grievous and if it isn't, does anyone know who it is. Because at the end of the episode (sorry, but I don't remember which one) it looks like the blood on the floor is oozing away and that made me think that maybe he was rebuilding himself again, but they never come back to him.

Anyway, just curious and thanks for the input.

Thanks, and I agree. That was why I was wondering about the Grievous thing. Why build the character if it doesn't really move the story?

Without having read EU about him, my guess is that the purpose of his character was to show that the Seperatists arent just sitting on their laurels creating superbattledroids etc. Instead they're trying to create new droids, far superior to anything the Jedi have seen. Trying to find that model that will help them destroy Jedi and the Republic. This Durge guy was just one in the evolution of the Seperatists search for a special droid that ended up yielding Greivous.

he's not a droid though

Well, that did not come across at all in the cartoons.

I thought it was some sort of 'organic' droid or somesuch.

Oh well, I guess my thoughts were way off track then

I don't recall exactly but didn't he like alter his shape into what looked like stretched out gum?

Either way, I didn't realize he was from comics, I thought it was just them trying to push a new villain on us.

Actually, I think he was first in the comics, then the cartoon. And I found him to be fucking annoying in the comics, so the silent portrayel in CW was better imho.

And he´s a Gendai, a race of beings which have decentralized nervous-systems and can stand enormous amounts of pain. Durge is over 2000 years old and he used to work with the ancient Sith, so recruiting him wasn´t too difficult for Sidious and Co.

So in other words, they found a character with some potential from the comics and gave him an episode or two in the cartoon. I will admit that he came off well and I was impressed with the character. Unfortunately I haven't read any of the comics and very few of the EU books, so I just assumed he was a new character. Since I thought he was new, I figured someone with that much potential could have had a bigger part or at least an introduction. He was just thrown at us and I had no idea who he was.

Thanks for the insight.

I seem to recall reading a comic with him in it in early 2003 (and hating him). CW's first ten episodes aired in November 2003.

Ok, I will. Asajj gave Anakin the scar in a duel on Coruscant.

Yeah, over all Durge was stupid, but Obi-Wan needed someone to fight. All things said and done, I didn'tlike the CW cartoon all that much. Really, Jedi in armour? Come on. If that's so believable, why didn't they wear any in the films?
