Has anyone else noticed Palpatine's implication that his master could not only manipulate midi-chlorians to extend life, but in fact create it? Occurs in the "opera box" between Palps and Anakin. Seems to point to the possibility of Plagueis creating/fathering Anakin as part of an ultimate Sith plot, which will eventually be hijacked by Palps. Ties in pretty neatly with Qui Gon's belief that Anakin was created by the midi-chlorians, yet drastically darkens the story if the midi's were themselves being used by a Sith lord. Let the bashing commence. |

I hadn't heard this before, but it sounds intriguing. I wonder if it will be in the movie. Of course this will get bashed by someone as being too coincidental or something, but then I've never seen the midichlorians as being that big of a deal. I wonder if more people than just Anakin were "concieved" as it were by the midichlorians. It's just Anakin who gets picked up. ![]() |

I've sort of neglected the midi's as well...thought they were basically another excuse to let L'il Jake deliver a crappy line in TPM. If correct, the Palps reference to Plagueis would certainly increase their import, even justify their inclusion in TPM, though we did not know it at the time. I hope it is in the movie. I think the reference to Darth P's ability to extend life/be immortal will be, hope the creation of life line is in also. |

Yeah, or at least even a slight reference to ones ability to manipulate the midis would be a sort of bookend with TPM. I never minded the midis being included in TPM, but this could at least clarify why we needed to know about them in the first place. |

Ok...from pg 227 (sorry...away from my scanner), speaking to Anakin of Plagueis (although not yet directly referenced as Palpatine's master): Quote: "According to the legend," Palpatine said, "he could directly influence the midi-chlorians to create life; with such knowledge, to maintain life in someone already living would seem a small matter, don't you agree?"
This would make Anakin one of the great tragic figures of literature and film...not led astray, but literally created to fail. Each step of his life, not then a choice for good or evil, but a step farther along the path laid out by the Sith Master. And the Jedi would further become the pawns of the Sith, perhaps spanning milennia, as the path to the Chosen One is walked. There are also implications for Palpatine and his relationship with Darth P. Again, assuming Anakin's creation by Darth P, did Palpatine find out about the plan for the Chosen One and the Jedi? Was Anakin to replace Palpatine as Darth P's Sith apprentice (since being immortal, or nearly so, he would still have been alive to train Anakin)? If so, was that presumably why Palpatine killed Plagueis? Was Palpatine himself, a failed attempt by Plagueis to create the Chosen One (would explain the lack of background on him)? |
